Nursing Home Workers Abused, Punched and Taunted 94-Year-Old Alzheimer's Patient

Welcome to the Glen Hazel nursing home, where we serve free punch! That's the story from Allegheny County, Pittsburg, where five nursing home staff members have been arrested for verbally and physically assaulting a 94-year old Alzheimer's patient.
According to testimony from coworkers, the gang of five workers (all women, by the way) struck the patient in the eye with a fist, struck her in the head, and threw an orange at her face. They also cursed at the patient and struck her in the chest with an elbow, among other things.
America offers the "best health care in the world," say the experts. Just don't forget to bring your body armor with you. With surgeons removing wrong kidney (oops), cancer docs irradiating the wrong breast (uh oh) and now nursing home staffers delivering a beat-down to patients that would make the LAPD proud, it's time to start thinking about whether going to the hospital (or nursing home) might require a second trip to the emergency room, too.
Of course, hospitals provide many valuable services, such as spreading MRSA or serving food that promotes heart attacks. Nursing homes can also provide valuable ways for American families to ditch their parents and keep 'em medicated (the medication abuse of Alzheimer's patients is widespread throughout the nursing home industry). So they're not without some usefulness in society.
The shortage of qualified nursing staff has apparently caused some nursing homes to start hiring gang bangers. When they get frustrated with their jobs, they simply tee off on the Alzheimer's patients, who they hope will probably not remember what happened anyway. Remember: It was only an alert by coworkers that caused this group of Glen Hazel workers to be caught at all!
Word to the wise: If your parents are living in a nursing home, be sure to check 'em for bruises. You might even install one of those baby sitter spycams in their room just to see what kind of care they're really receiving. On the brochures, all the nursing homes look fantastic. But in the real world, in the privacy of a resident's room, they could be beating the snot out of your grandma (and getting paid to do it).
