Inositol is a vital nutrient for your body that could prevent and heal cancer

Inositol

(NaturalNews) Increasingly, independent scientists are looking at ways that nutrition can help prevent and/or heal many diseases. Proper nutrition, as has long been established, is really the key to better health.

That's why it is promising that researchers are examining the health benefits of inositol, a nutrient that is one of several little-known chemo-protective natural substances that have been discovered.

Natural Health 365 reports that these substances have always been around, either in nature or produced by our bodies. Inositol is one of them, and is both generated by the body and found in natural foods.

This nutrient is said to have positive effects on the brain's neurotransmitters and fat conversion, but in addition to that, it has been steadily showing promise as a fantastic nutrient for preventing a number of different cancers, including both lung and colon cancer.

Inositol has many uses

The website noted that inositol is produced in several ways. It is categorized as being part of the B-vitamin family (B8) because, as is the case with the B vitamins, it is water soluble and it does not remain for long in the body after it is produced and consumed.

In fact, inositol is really a carbohydrate – many people prefer to use it in a powder form as a supplement for smoothies, because it has a sweet taste and its texture is creamy. Also, it doesn't have the negative effects that are endemic to sugar, a real benefit for anyone who is seeking to avoid extra sucrose intake.

Researchers note that healthy people produce about 4 grams of inositol daily through their kidneys. Its most common form is myo-inositol, and it can be found in these foods: Citrus fruits, melons, nuts, oats, seeds, beans, corn, brown rice, lecithin, liver and chick peas, among others.

Natural Health 365 notes that, on a chemical level, myo-inositol is useful in the formation of eukaryotic cells, structural lipids and phosphates. But its primary function is to assist fat cells move through the liver and not accumulate in the body. In addition, it is a wonderful converter of nutrients to energy.

What also has many interested in the substance is that it is effective in maintaining proper brain health by assisting in the healthy function of neurotransmitters, while helping generate a feeling of calm. Researchers have also found that myo-inositol can assist with eating disorders, the promotion of good sleep, tamping down anxiety, losing weight, battling depression, liver detoxification and boosting circulation. Studies have shown that the nutrient can regulate retinopathy, neuropathy and hair loss that is caused by diabetes, while keeping down cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Early research demonstrated how nutrients could battle cancer

As Natural Health 365 noted further:

The best news about inositol is that studies dating back to the 1970's indicate it may also be a strong preventative substance for many forms of cancer.

The history of the discovery of Inositol is interestingly and linked to one of the great contributors in the natural treatment of cancer. Dr. Lee Wattenberg, often called the "Father of Chemoprevention," was also the first to detect inositol's healing effects on lung cancer.

This, of course, was a big deal, because this inositol research in particular demonstrated just how common nutrients, generally, could be employed to prevent and even heal some cases of cancer. In the 1970s, as Wattenberg was conducting his research, many already believed that nutrition, in general, played a significant role in fighting disease and maintaining overall health, including the prevention of cancers. Finding specific natural substances for this particular goal, however, was still fairly new as a concept within the halls of most research facilities.

Today, even more is becoming known about how nutrition can play a significant role in improving health, including fighting cancer. See more about that here.
