Politically correct school memory-holes Huckleberry Finn to protect High School juniors from feeling 'uncomfortable' over the 'N word' despite anti-racist theme

Huckleberry Finn

(NaturalNews) These days, with sensitivity about speech on hyper-drive, even classic literature written for the times is deemed unfit for consumption and memory-holed, rather than utilized as a teaching moment about how far our society has come in matters of acceptance.

As reported by The Daily Sheeple, it seems now even the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a novel by Mark Twain about a turn-of-the-century adventure-seeking youngster, is too "racist" for today's young minds. That is every bit as nonsensical as treating Star Wars as racist because Darth Vader was voiced by African American star James Earl Jones, or believing that the Washington Redskins team name is racially offensive, not so-named because it struck fear in the hearts of 19th century American settlers.

As the Sheeple noted:

History is being rewritten left and right to avoid hurting anyone's feelings in this country.

Now a school in Philadelphia recently announced that it was removing
Huckleberry Finn, the Mark Twain novel written in 1885 that ranks as one of the all-time great American novels ever, from its classroom curriculum...

'It's not censorship'

What, pray tell, makes the book so "offensive" today that the speech Nazis have deemed it unacceptable for study and presentation? Because the book contains use of the "N" word – you know, the word that black inner city youth call each other all the time but which is used in Huckleberry Finn because it was common vernacular of the period (just like my Irish ancestors were called various names – names that are not flattering but understandable when I am reading them in the context of the times in which the term was commonly utilized).

As for Huck Finn, never mind that the book was very – what's the word liberals love to use to describe themselves? Progressive? – for the time in its heavy criticism of slavery. And never mind that the story features a boy who befriends a slave and endures difficulty in helping him reach freedom.

But see, that kind of teachable narrative doesn't fit the far-left-wing agenda of the speech Nazis, who would rather empower themselves by stoking racial tensions than helping young minds fully appreciate and understand just how far our country has come from those times. You know, real "progressive" stuff.

The New York Post also riffed on the speech Nazi's decision, noting that the PC crowd "just got a great American novel banned":

The Friends' Central School removed the Mark Twain classic from the 11th-grade American literature class last week after students said it made them feel uncomfortable, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

"We have all come to the conclusion that the community costs of reading this book in 11th grade outweigh the literary benefits," principal Art Hall said in a letter to parents.

Hall said students were challenged by the use of the racial slur, and felt the school was not being inclusive enough.

'Mindless drone' training

When Deborah Caldwell-Stone, deputy director of the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom called Hall out for censorship, Hall laughably denied that was the case. She wasn't convinced.

"We would still see this as a kind of censorship because there is something to be learned from this work," she told The Philadelphia Inquirer. Like history as it was, not as it selectively was.

As the Sheeple noted, though, Hall's disingenuous denial aside, this is worse than just censorship, which in and of itself is bad enough.

"This is a politically correct agenda infecting our nation's youth like a cancer with the ultimate goal of dumbing down future American adults into spineless, mindless drones without any critical thinking skills, strong convictions, or interest in standing up for their rights whatsoever," the website reported.

Spot on.
