(NaturalNews) In a show of support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) whistleblower Dr. William Thompson, gastroenterologist Dr. Andrew Wakefield has filed a formal complaint[PDF] with the acting director of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

In a letter dated October 14, 2014, Dr. Wakefield calls for an immediate investigation into a study that exposed a link between the timing of MMR vaccinations and autism. Entitled "Age at First Measles-Mumps-Rubella Vaccination in Children With Autism and School-Matched Control Subjects: A Population-Based Study in Metropolitan Atlanta," the study was published in a deliberately misleading way so as to make the MMR vaccine appear safe.

But it actually isn't, says Dr. Thompson, the CDC epidemiologist and statistician who recently confessed to aiding the enemy in publishing false data about the vaccine back in the early 2000s. Dr. Thompson came forward with previously concealed data showing significant associations between MMR vaccination and autism among the entire autism cohort evaluated, and especially among African American children under the age of three.

"We write to report apparent research misconduct by senior investigators within the National Immunization Program (NIP), Battelle Memorial Institute at the Centers for Public Health Evaluation (CPHE), and the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD), and to request an immediate investigation," reads Dr. Wakefield's letter.

"The research team, headed by Dr. Frank DeStefano, MD... found statistically significant associations between the age of first MMR and autism in (a) the entire autism cohort, (b) African-American children, and (c) children with 'isolated' autism, a subset defined... as those with autism and without comorbid developmental disabilities."

CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding complicit in publishing of fraudulent MMR study

As it was published in the journal Pediatrics, the study wrongly concluded that the timing of MMR vaccination is of no concern. It states that "the age at time of first MMR administration was similar among case and control children," implying that parents shouldn't worry about an autism risk associated with MMR vaccines.

But as admitted by Dr. Thompson, key data withheld from the original publishing of the study shows a definitive causal relationship between MMR vaccination before age 36 months and autism. Not only are Dr. Thompson and the study's other authors guilty of deceiving the public on this important matter, but so is former CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding.

"Dr. Thompson brought the misconduct to the attention of Dr. Julie Gerberding... despite which the misconduct was allowed to continue and continues to this day," adds Dr. Wakefield's letter.

Dr. Thompson's initial warnings about MMR were ignored; paper deliberately published with false conclusion

In a letter written to Dr. Gerberding on February 2, 2004, Dr. Thompson warned that he had "several problematic results" that he would need to present at a meeting of the Institute of Medicine, which was to take place the following week. But Dr. Gerberding apparently ignored this letter, and another study author says he was threatened with termination over this and other correspondences.

Feeling as though he had no choice but to proceed with the highly skewed paper, Dr. Thompson eventually signed off on it, and the rest is history. His conscience later caught up with him; he confessed to his involvement in the scandal, and now he, Dr. Wakefield and many others are calling for justice to be served.

"We believe that the facts presented here reveal a clear picture of research misconduct within the CDC with profound and far-reaching implications for public health, and in particular the wellbeing of children," concludes Dr. Wakefield's letter.

"This misconduct undermines the trust and reputation of CDC as a source for complete and reliable scientific information."
