(NaturalNews) Her name is Mia Love, and she is Utah's newest congressional member. She is African American. She is a Republican. She is the political opposite of every narrative the mainstream media and its left-wing cheerleaders and sycophants have employed since before the first African American president took his oath of office.

Republicans, the narrative went, are racists. Republicans, the narrative went, have been waging a "war on women." Republicans, the narrative went, don't like minorities.

So much for "the narrative."

Following Election Night, Tuesday, Nov. 4, though, the mainstream media continued with its contrived narrative. CNN, in particular, attempted to define Love's election, but she refused to allow the network -- or the media in general -- to do so. Appearing on CNN the following morning with its race-obsessed hosts Rick Berman and Michaela Pereira, as reported by Breitbart News, here is, in part, how her exchange went after they tried to make race and her gender the issue:

Love: Race and gender had nothing to do with [my win]. Principles had everything to do with it. Utah values had everything to do with it.

Pereira: I want to challenge you on one point. This isn't about dividing on issues of race but ensuring everyone has a fair shot at a seat at the table.

Love: You have to understand that [in my district] there are very few black residents. I wasn't elected because of the color of my skin. I wasn't elected because of my gender. I was elected because of the solutions I put forward and my promise to run an issues-oriented campaign, That's
[sic] what resonated.

A 'bizarre' interview

Imagine: Love wants to be known for her character and ideas, not skin color and gender.

But we aren't the only ones to notice how hypocritical -- and wrong -- the mainstream media narratives are regarding race, gender and political affiliation when it comes to Mia Love (and other GOP gender-specific and minority winners from the Nov. 4 midterms). Even The Washington Post reported on CNN's "bizarre" interview with her:

To tee up an interview with the victorious candidate, CNN played the following sound bite from Love last night: "Many of the naysayers out there said that Utah would never elect a black, Republican, LDS woman to Congress. Not only did we do it, we were the first to do it."

Given that Love appeared to be embracing the historic significance of her feat, CNN hosts John Berman and Michaela Pereira clearly felt some license to walk this ground in an interview this morning. Berman, who is white, noted that Love was the first black Republican woman to be elected to the House and asked how Republicans could pull off more diversity-boosting wins.

'They're not interested in race or gender'

Mia responded: "First of all, I think what we need to mention here is this had nothing to do with race. Understand that Utahans have made a statement that they're not interested in dividing Americans based on race or gender, that they want to make sure that they're electing people who are honest and who have integrity, who can... make sure that we represent the values that they hold dear and that's what really made history here. It's that race, gender had nothing to do with it. Principles had everything to do with it, and Utah values had everything to do with it. And so that's the history that we made here."

Pereira, who is biracial, would not accept that response. The Post reported that the host proceeded to challenge Love, as reported above, and wondered aloud about whether Love's election really stood for ensuring that everyone deserves a seat at the political round table.

In response, Love noted that her home town of Saratoga Springs has few black residents, responding as we reported above.
