Female athletes PUSH BACK against transgender inclusion in women’s sports

Female athletes are now pushing back against transgender inclusion in women's sports.

According to a blog written by Jonathon Van Maren, a public speaker, writer and pro-life activist for Life Site News, the increasing participation of transgender athletes threatens to erode opportunities for female competitors and diminish the achievements of women in sports.

"Well-known female competitors are simply opting out of tournaments in which they are asked to compete against males," Van Maren wrote. "They want their own spaces; they are not using the language of 'transgender women'; they are not debating testosterone levels or engaging in arguments about specific physiological points. They are just opting out entirely, and they are willing to sacrifice money, prizes and prestige to do so."

For instance, during the National Collegiate Athletic Association Liberty League track and field championships, a New York-based Division III intercollegiate athletic conference, Sadie Schreiner, a male-to-female (MTF) transgender athlete representing the Rochester Institute of Technology's women's track and field team, clinched three victories in the women's division on May 5.

Schreiner won in the 400-meter dash with 55.07 seconds and in the 200-meter dash with a remarkable 24.14 seconds. His 200-meter time also set a new school record and a Liberty League conference women’s record, surpassing his previous personal best of 24.50 seconds earlier in the season.

He also served as the anchor of the winning 4 x 400 meters relay team, propelling them to victory with an impressive finish. Despite starting in fourth place when he received the baton, Schreiner's lightning-fast anchor leg clocked at 54.91 seconds and secured a commanding lead for the team, clinching the win by nearly three seconds.

In response to Schreiner's victory, several female athletes have taken a stand against competing against transgender competitors. (Related: Wyoming women's tennis association president resigns in protest after a BIOLOGICAL MALE was allowed to compete in WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT.)

Meanwhile, in West Virginia, five female students refused to participate in a track meet where they would have faced an MTF transgender athlete in a shot put event. Despite facing consequences for their actions, these athletes have garnered support for maintaining separate categories for male and female competitors.

The controversy extends beyond the United States, with British darts star Deta Hedman forfeiting her chance to win the Denmark Open after declining to compete against an MTF transgender athlete.

"This is precisely the sort of pushback that is necessary — and this is precisely the moment to do it. The consensus is crumbling," Van Maren concluded.

Overall support for LGBT agenda among Americans has declined in 2023

The inclusion of gender-confused men in women's sports is not the only one facing pushback.

Instead, in a recent Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) poll, there is an overall decline in support for the LGBT agenda among Americans in 2023.

Andrew Flores, a researcher at PRRI and the author of the accompanying report, highlights the significant drop in support for LGBTQ rights compared to previous years. The data indicates a departure from the upward trajectory of public approval witnessed in earlier years. In the past, policies advocating for transgender individuals to utilize bathrooms corresponding to their biological sex garnered considerable support. However, the latest figures paint a different picture, suggesting a reversal in the trend of growing endorsements for LGBT rights.

Flores uncovered a significant surge in Republican support for legislation to safeguard women's bathrooms from gender dysphoric males. This support nearly doubled from 44 percent in 2016 to 80 percent by 2023. Conversely, among Democrats, backing for such laws remained steady, lingering at around 31 percent.

But despite these shifts in legislative support, the research suggests a downturn in pro-LGBT sentiments. For instance, 72 percent of the public endorsed same-sex unions in August 2021, but this figure dipped by six points to 66 percent in 2023.

Flores attributed the shift to growing polarization among Americans on a state-by-state basis: "As partisan politicians began to clearly take opposing positions on transgender rights, so too have partisan members of the mass public." He also pointed to the rise of so-called "anti-transgender and anti-gay legislation," alongside "anti-LGBT rhetoric and demonstrations," as evidence of the shift away from the radical sexual and cultural upheaval.

This shift "has occurred in a patchwork fashion across the country in a manner aligned with the political preferences of individual states."
