Dallas voting to possibly end water fluoridation Wednesday

by Jennifer Lilley

(NaturalNews) Wednesday, January 28, 2015, is a date that anti-fluoridation activists in Dallas, Texas -- and perhaps around the nation-- are eagerly awaiting. It's the date that City Hall officials are expected to decide whether or not fluoridation of the public water works will continue.(1)

Sites dedicated to getting such toxicity out of the area water supply are in full swing, one being the Fluoride Action North Texas Facebook page. Several posts there encourage making one's voice heard about the issue, urging people to appear at Dallas City Hall (1500 Marilla Street) at 8:00 in the morning on decision day.(2)

The Facebook page is filled with informative videos addressing the problem of fluoride in drinking water and also includes numerous images of people holding signs with the January 28 date along with the wording, "Dallas City Council Vote No!"(2)

Why fluoride chemicals in drinking water are "public murder"

Water fluoridation has long been steeped in controversy, with many people saying that it doesn't harm health. They are quick to point out prevention of tooth decay or the fact that they're still alive despite years of drinking such water.

Others, however, aren't too quick to jump on the "water fluoridation is healthy" bandwagon. As such, they suggest that options be put in place so that choices are provided: If people want their water fluoridated, they pay for it themselves; if they don't want fluoride added to their drinking water, then municipalities should consider providing pure, nonfluoridated water.(1)

In a video made public by RealityIreland, a group dedicated to providing truth and preventing abuse of power, Dr. Dean Burke, Biochemist and Former Chief Chemist at the National Cancer Institute of Health, warns against water fluoridation.

He says that it's detrimental to human health and that information he's found supporting this thought represents "some of the most conclusive scientific and biological evidence that I have come across in my 50 years in the field of cancer research." Of the strong association between fluoride chemicals and various cancers, he says he's disturbed by the fact that it's still allowed in many areas and considered safe. That, he says, "amounts to public murder on a grand scale... it is a public crime."(3)

Fluoride has been linked to a slew of health problems beyond an increased risk of developing cancers.

According to a study in the journal The Lancet Neurology titled "Neurobehavioural effects of developmental toxicity," its effects are shown to be devastating to brain health.

It states:

Neurodevelopmental disabilities, including autism, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, and other cognitive impairments, affect millions of children worldwide, and some diagnoses seem to be increasing in frequency.(4)

In particular, the study specifically identifies fluoride as a main neurotoxicant linked to these health consequences.

The article suggests:

To control the pandemic of developmental neurotoxicity, we propose a global prevention strategy. Untested chemicals should not be presumed to be safe to brain development, and chemicals in existing use and all new chemicals must therefore be tested for developmental neurotoxicity. To coordinate these efforts and to accelerate translation of science into prevention, we propose the urgent formation of a new international clearinghouse.(4)

How to avoid fluoride toxicity

Of course, one way to avoid such toxicity is obvious: it's to not drink fluoridated water. FlourideAlert.org recommends using water filters, drinking spring water and even investing in a water distillation unit.(5)

Furthermore, they also suggest avoiding the use of toothpaste that contains fluoride. This is especially concerning when it gets in the hands of young children who may be more inclined to ingest the paste; however, its harmful effects have not necessarily been associated with topical dental application.(5)

The site also advises not accepting fluoride treatments from the dentist, drinking only organic juices and wines, and eating more fresh foods (processed ones contain much higher levels of fluoride).(5)
