Obamacare blocks sick children from receiving specialty care

by L.J. Devon, Staff Writer

(NaturalNews) When President Obama began campaigning for the Affordable Care Act early in his first term, he promised the American people that they would be able to keep their existing insurance plan under the new law. The opposite has quickly become true; many have lost coverage and are now being forced to pay more for Obamacare plans. That's not all.

The President also promised that those with preexisting conditions would be cared for and not turned away. But this promise too has become a bold-faced lie.

Children needing specialty care blocked thanks to Obamacare

New local reports out of Washington State tell of a very disheartening reality for children needing specialty care. Sick children with preexisting conditions are now being turned away by the ACA in Seattle. The president's generous promise to take care of sick children previously denied care has become a sham, a disgraceful lie.

The local report from Seattle finds that eight sick children are being denied coverage for specialty care thanks to the Affordable Care Act. Obamacare has officially begun to ration medical treatments in Washington state. View the local report here:

"Administrators at Seattle Children's Hospital said they predicted this would happen, and it's even worse than they expected," says a Seattle news anchor. "Patients are being denied specialty treatment at the hospital by insurance providers on the Washington health benefits exchange."

According to local reports at the Seattle's Children's Hospital, 125 children have requested specialty care coverage and only 20 have been responded to, while 8 of those 20 children have been denied.

Disgusted, Dr. Melzer says that these denials are coming after the president reassured the people that certain unique specialty cases would still be covered.

"Well, some of the patients who were denied are ones who clearly would fall into that unique category. A two-year-old with new significant neck mass that was being evaluated for infection or malignancy, an older child with a chronic severe medical condition requiring multidisciplinary care here, a baby that had a skull abnormality," says Dr. Melzer.

How many lies can the President get away with it?

In his state of the Union Address in 2014, President Obama proudly gave an example of one who has benefited from the ACA.

"Now - a preexisting condition used to mean that someone like Amanda Shelley, a physician's assistant and single mom from Arizona, couldn't get health insurance. But on January 1st, she got covered. On January 3rd, she felt a sharp pain. On January 6th, she had emergency surgery. Just one week earlier, Amanda said, that surgery would've meant bankruptcy. That's what health insurance reform is all about, the peace of mind that if misfortune strikes, you don't have to lose everything," says Obama.

While sounding compassionate, examples like this are all theater. In reality, the law has begun to cause rationed medical care, as specialty needs children are left waiting or are denied coverage altogether. The hospitals have no option but to absorb the extra costs at the expense of Obamacare, as they take in and treat government-denied sick children.

Dr. Melzer said that the children who were denied coverage are being treated at the hospital despite their denials, but he said that "the hospital can't afford to keep doing it that way," pointing out the failures of this law and how the current trajectory is unsustainable.
