Man loses 120 pounds, is off medications due to raw food diet

by Antonia

(NaturalNews) After taking cholesterol-lowering drugs and water pills for 20 years and blood pressure medication for 25 years, Luis Melendez says he no longer needs any of them. Not only is he free from the pills, but he's also free of the extra weight that he was carrying around... 120 pounds, to be exact. In eight months, he went from 270 pounds to 150. Today, he maintains a healthy weight, never exceeding 180 pounds.

He credits his health turnaround to raw foods, saying, "I feel fantastic."

When he realized that he needed to make a change in his life, he came upon information from Dan McDonald, also referred to as "The Life Regenerator" and "Dan the Man." A renowned raw foodist who has helped put others on the weight loss fast track, McDonald's CDs teach the benefits of raw food for the body. In addition to losing weight, many others following his advice also no longer rely on medications, just like Melendez.

The problem

Processed foods and additives wreak havoc on our bodies. In addition to diseases, infertility, memory loss and mood swings, eating such foods can result in weight gain. In short, studies show that processed foods disrupt the body so that proper digestion does not take place. Furthermore, these harmful foods trick the body into thinking that they need to consume more, which leads to food addictions and, in turn, expanding waistlines.

The benefits of raw foods in our diet

In stark contrast, raw foods avoid this altogether, focusing on natural foods that our bodies are meant to ingest. Furthermore, a raw food diet is in line with the dietary guidelines that outline the importance of sodium reduction, proper amounts of protein, consumption of healthier fats and acceptable amounts of carbohydrates. In turn, this translates to improved health relating to both weight loss and other health benefits, which of course vary by individual.

Melendez says that, without a doubt, he will continue his raw food lifestyle. He's 80% raw these days but varies his diet so that sometimes he's 100% raw. He is also an avid juicer, saying that he may juice for a month and a half at a time.

"Raw food," says the trim and energetic Melendez, "is the way to go."
