Green smoothies' performance effects are the subject of new Boutenko documentary

by Michael A. Bedar, MA

(NaturalNews) As advanced as high-performance athletic training has become in the technological era, what effect can green smoothies have on the performance of endurance athletes?

Sergei Boutenko is currently setting out to test the results of adding a regular and substantial intake of green smoothies to the training regimen of endurance athletes. He says his hypothesis is that his subjects will experience higher energy levels, more stamina, and overall better performance while drinking daily green smoothies, which are home-made blends of fresh fruits and green vegetables.

"After what I've seen over the last decade, I am beyond convinced that green smoothies benefit everyone who chooses to consume them regularly," says Boutenko. "I want to find out what effect these same blended concoctions will have on seemingly healthy endurance athletes."

Boutenko's current film project is the first known attempt to conduct such an experiment. Now, in the beginning phases of production, the film Powered by Green Smoothies, will demonstrate the results as scientifically as possible, including taking blood work on the film's participants.

"I don't know everything about physiology and performance," says Boutenko, "but I am going to find doctors and experts in the field to help me make sure the ways I evaluate performance and physiology changes are legitimate and unbiased."

While Boutenko has already chosen the athletes who will be followed in the film, he says that he has been receiving "a plethora of people enticing me to add them to the film and let them jump on the bandwagon."

A Tale of "Power Goos" and Green Smoothies

"A lot of people looking to improve performance have a poor diet," says Boutenko, whose home is in
Ashland, OR. "This film could revolutionize how people do sports."

The need for "power goos," Boutenko adds, "might not be as vast as it is today if people realize that green smoothies accomplish the same thing, or are even better."

Boutenko himself, who cross trains, climbs, practices yoga, runs, and drinks many green smoothies, says he recently climbed to the summit of Mt. Shasta from base camp, Horsecamp, in four hours and 35 minutes. He recalls that, on the ascent, he passed some endurance athletes who had started halfway up.

Sergei Boutenko plans for the completed film, Powered by Green Smoothies, to be released by April, 2014. Until then, no one yet knows for sure what the outcome of drinking fresh, organic green smoothies every day will be for endurance athletes. In an accelerating world, in which everyone seeks to make a profit on an athlete's hunger for speed through some new product, it is refreshing to consider that people are interested in what one simple, homemade drink can do for athletes as well as for local farms. Boutenko already has an agreement with two organic farms local to Ashland to supply him with "a steady stream of the freshest fruits and greens."

When asked what he would say to people interested in his documentary film project, Boutenko said, "I need help spreading the word, and every dollar of funding helps. Generating interest by telling your friends about this project is so helpful to me."
