Twitter profanity heat map reveals New Yorkers drop more f-bombs than anyone else

(NaturalNews) Okay, you social networkers who like to be provocative and edgy by spreading profanity-laden tweets across the airwaves, thanks to new feature the world now knows who you are.
And most of you appear to be living in New York City.
That's according to a new Twitter heat map powered by Vertalab, which can pinpoint where certain phrases originate. And in the case of the venerable F-bomb, New Yorkers win hands-down (see the map here).
"Essentially, it's a politeness barometer that not only shows where people in the United States like to tweet 'good morning' as opposed to 'f**k you,' it also shows how these phrases evolve throughout the day," says a report about the feature by Discovery News.
So, no matter which side of the bed you wake up on, the report says, the Twitter heat map knows where you lie down at night, and can tell what kind of mood you're likely in, given your tweet traffic.
If you weren't surprised by the profane practice of profanity-laced tweets in NYC, you probably expected this as well: Tweeters in the Deep South and Midwest tend to be much more polite, that regional hospitality shining through.
NYC tweeters were rivaled by their New Jersey neighbors - again, perhaps unsurprisingly - and by tweeters in Los Angeles. But the term-specific heat map did turn up one amazing find: the Toronto/Niagra Falls/Buffalo, N.Y.-region's penchant for the term.
By comparison, there were "pockets of pleasantries," DN reported. There were large swaths of "Good Morning" tweets in the South and Midwest, and particularly near Lubbock, Texas.
Oh, and to be fair, New Yorkers made plenty of "Good Morning" tweets as well.
