Google is attempting to make computers more user-friendly with its own software kit. The six programs in the Google Pack include Adobe Systems Inc.'s Acrobat Reader, RealNetworks Inc.'s media player and others.
In a bid to make computing safe and secure, Google Inc. has decided to distribute a free software startup kit.
Google introduced the software kit in Las Vegas on Friday.
The set of programs will facilitate installing and maintaining basic applications.
According to an Associated Press report, Google is all set to prove that it still has got the upper hand when it comes to making computers more user-friendly.
With this software kit, the leading Internet search engine is all set to give Microsoft a run for its money.
Google provides six programs in the package.
The Google Pack comprises of Adobe Systems Inc.'s Acrobat Reader, RealNetworks Inc.'s media player, Mozilla's Firefox Web browser and Cerulean Studios' Trillian instant messaging program.
It doesn't have word processing and spreadsheet programs, however, Google has promised to negotiate with Sun Microsystems Inc. to support an open-source version of those applications.
The software kit lacks the free OpenOffice suite, which includes word-processing and spreadsheet applications.
Other applications in the pack are available for free on the web.
Soon after the announcement, Google's shares have gone up $14.42 on Friday to close at $465.66 on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
The stock price earlier touched a new high of $470.50 earlier in the session.
