Congressman calls for unbiased scientific study of US military use of depleted uranium
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA) recently introduced a bill that calls for full, unbiased scientific study of the possibly harmful effects of military use of depleted uranium (DU). DU is widely used as a protective shield around tanks and in munitions like tank shells and armor-piercing bullets, but it is also chemically toxic, since it is a by-product of the uranium enrichment process. McDermott's says he has been concerned with DU since the Gulf War, when veterans began to experience unexplained illnesses. McDermott also cites reports from Iraqi doctors about birth defects, unexplained illnesses and high rates of cancer in areas where the US military has used DU.
