Mothers find relief from childbirth pain in self-hypnosis

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

A study conducted by Australian researcher Dr. Marion Andrew, a senior consultant anesthetist at the Women and Children's Hospital in Adelaide, has found that many women taught self-hypnosis do not need medication for pain during childbirth. The study tested 77 women who were taught self hypnosis against a control group of 3000 who were given traditional treatments for child birth. Only 36 percent of the hypnosis group requested an epidural, whereas 55 percent of the control group did. The most marked difference was in first-time mothers. Andrew feels most first time mothers would prefer to give birth without an analgesic if they can, and self-hypnosis opens up new options for them.
