Broadband conflicts between city government and private providers may determine future of internet

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

In Lafayette, LA, residents have decided to make a city-owned fiber-optic broadband network. BellSouth and Cox communications have a problem with this since they claimed the region as their own years ago. This situation illustrates a conflict happening all over America, where cities -- spurred by slow or non-existent efforts by private companies to provide broadband internet, or by outrageous prices -- are making a play for this important technology. The Bells and cable providers feel the government entities should leave these services to the private companies better equipped to deal with it, and are lobbying hard to keep the government out of the field.
