Oregon anti-junk food bill turns into nutritional guideline proposal

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

A recently drafted bill that would outlaw junk food and soft drinks in school did not pass the Oregon state legislature. Those who would have supported such a bill instead voted for an alternate piece of legislation that would not make junk food in school illegal, but would enforce nutritional guidelines in the schools.

The new bill is the target of criticism from those who supported an out-and-out ban, claiming that nutritional guidelines will not help significantly decrease child and teenage obesity, a problem that the initial bill sought to rectify. Nutritional guidelines would also allow each district to decide which foods could and could not advertise in schools.
