Garlic prevents pulmonary hypertension, study finds

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

A study conducted by researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham has found that consuming garlic in the diet or via supplements appears to improve blood circulation and assist breathing in the lungs of experimental rats. The researchers gave doses of allicin, the active chemical in garlic, along with a chemical that induces chronic pulmonary hypertension, to rats.

Rats treated with allicin did not develop hypertension, while those that did not receive allicin did develop the condition. Researchers say that garlic is non-toxic and so adding it to a human diet is a reasonable approach. A human would have to eat two cloves of raw garlic daily to match the dose used in the study.
