Premature births may be linked to oral health problems, new study says

A team of New York dentists says pregnant women with high amounts of the bacteria that cause tooth decay are more likely to have premature births. This is the latest in a growing amount of research showing a possible connection between oral health problems and premature births. Researchers are not sure of the reasons for the connection, but one expert guesses the bacteria that cause oral problems travel to the uterus during pregnancy.
