A new study by some Arizona researchers may bring light to an overlooked issue regarding tattoo parlors. The study says inks used in tattoo inks contain toxic heavy metals like copper and nickel. While it's still unclear how much of the metals the inks contain, or whether there is any health risk, the findings have prompted some to ask whether the inks are subject to FDA approval. Surprisingly, they are not.
