Tobacco giant Philip Morris commissioned a 2001 study on the correlation between secondhand smoke and sudden infant death syndrome and influenced the direction of the research to minimize the link between the two, according to a study by the University of California. The paper was published in a well-respected pediatrics journal and has since been cited by almost 20 other papers.
