The Interstate Traveler Corporation in Detroit is developing an elevated train that runs on hydrogen and solar power. Solar panels would cover the tracks and water would be piped through for hydrogen power. Stations beside the tracks could produce the hydrogen power. Justin Sutton, founder and chairman of the company, said, "If we build a mile of this rail, it can support three vehicles and not have to buy energy." North Carolina recently hosted the first International Hydrail Conference to discuss using hydrogen fuel cells to power commuter trains
