Mad cow prions may not be limited to just the nervous system, say researchers

In a recent study done with mice, the prions (protein strings) that cause mad cow disease did not stay in the brain, spinal cord, eyes, and other tissues of the nervous system as the researchers expected. Instead, they traveled to all of the other organs, meaning that they may also go to other organs in cows.
