Diet, instead of drugs, can be an effective treatment for high blood pressure (otherwise known as hypertension), a new study shows. Researchers looked at that the "silent killer's" prevalence among people who maintain vegetarian diets. They found significantly fewer instances of the disease than among those who eat meat regularly. Vegetarians tend to be slimmer than meat eaters, and that is one reason for the lower rate of hypertension, the study suggests.
