Hoodia growers have big plans for weight loss succulent
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Here's an update on the hoodia industry: Pfizer dropped its research
into using hoodia compounds as a chemical weight loss drug, but hoodia
still has a strong future in the nutrition industry. Add hoodia powder
to a protein bar, and you've got an appetite suppressant and a meal
replacement bar all in one package.
- Richard Dixey, Phytopharm's chief executive, said: "The Hoodia cactus
is the first appetite supressant ever discovered, so of course there are
no appetite suppressing confectionary bars out there on the market yet.
- That was the company's original plan for the extract, but Phytopharm
has been forced to consider other options since Pfizer, the world's
biggest pharmaceutical group, decided earlier this year not to develop
the plant into an anti-obesity pill.
- Phytopharm has stepped up cultivation of the Hoodia in advance of what
it hopes will be a breakthrough supply deal, with the likes of Nestlé
or Kellogg's, to develop the appetite-suppressing snack.
