With the exception of animals that hibernate or anticipate periods of starvation during the winter, there simply are no overweight wild animals. An individual animal's genetic code won't allow obesity to occur because, when adequate stores of fat are present, a sophisticated system of monitoring cells produce hormones that shut off hunger signals. Also, as just discussed, quite possibly the micronutrients in the foods in an animal's habitat act as a satiety switch. Change in the amount of daylight is another likely satiety switch. |

Wild game generally has less saturated fat and more omega-3 fatty acids than domesticated animals, because most of the wild animals we eat themselves eat a diverse diet of plants rather than grain. (The nutritional profile of grass-fed beef closely resembles that of wild game.) Wild fish generally have higher levels of omega-3 s than farmed fish, which are often fed grain. To judge by the experience of fish-eating cultures like the Japanese, adding a few servings of wild fish to the diet each week may lower our risk of heart disease, prolong our lives, and even make us happier. |

When primitive man consumed brain tissue from wild animals, he got generous amounts of DHA.
