 NK cells work to target and kill virally infected cells and tumor cells, so these cells are an important bodily defense against virus infection. Therefore, high numbers of these cells and the ability to easily kill target cells are desirable. Importantly, the one immune variable that has been rather consistently reported to be abnormal in CFS is the NK cell. Some papers report that the numbers of these cells circulating in the blood is reduced, and others say they function less well than they should. |
