REPPED: Mike: You mention that trace minerals are part of the food you provide to the spirulina cultures. Are these the same trace minerals that are found in ocean water, then, and how much are absorbed by the spirulina?
Gerry: Well, we actually use something very unique which I don't think is duplicated anywhere in the world and that is at each batch of spirulina we produce, we add a measured amount of this deep sea water that is very rich in trace minerals. It actually provides all 96 trace minerals known, and it is absorbed very well. |

Minerals
The minerals the human body requires can be divided into two categories: macrominerals and trace minerals. Macrominerals are those we need large quantities of, often because they are incorporated into important body structures, such as bones, teeth, hair, and skin. trace minerals often play a role in facilitating metabolic processes. Calcium and magnesium are the macro-minerals that most directly play a role in sleep. Key trace minerals involved in getting good sleep are chromium, copper, iron, and zinc. |

Mike: So, what we typically call an organic form of trace minerals, I think it's important for people to understand the difference, because if someone is just drinking trace minerals from seawater, that's a very different molecular form than what's found in the spirulina, correct?
Gerry: That's correct. It's usually associated or chelated with some other compounds that make it much more bioavailable to the body. |

Stimulated by the N P K fertilizer, the plant grows, but is deficient in vital trace minerals. In the absence of trace minerals, plants take up heavy metals (such as aluminum, mercury and lead) from the soil. Between 1950 and 1975, the calcium content in one cup of rice dropped 21%, and iron fell by 28.6%.
When trace minerals are scarce in plant bodies they become scarce in human bodies.
Dr. Scott Whitaker, in his book MediSin, tells us how unfortunate it is that the modern day farmer has been persuaded to use monoculture, artificial fertilization, pesticides, and herbicides. |

Excesses of most of these trace minerals are eliminated by the kidneys. However, iron, zinc, copper, and molybdenum are eliminated in the bile.
Perfect health is not possible without the correct amounts of these trace minerals.
CHAPTER 11
Iron
The Blood Builder
Although iron is necessary for our bodies, it can be harmful in large amounts. The chemical symbol for iron is Fe from the Latinferrum, which means iron. Iron deficiency is probably the most common nutrient deficiency in the United States and the world. Iron deficiency affects about one billion people worldwide. |

I also want to mention that this salt is a full-spectrum salt, so instead of just getting sodium and chloride, you're getting a full spectrum of trace minerals and macro minerals, as well. Remember that table salt you might be consuming, or the sodium found in processed foods, is just sodium chloride. You don't get the trace minerals, and it is those trace minerals – those other 90 elements, for example – that you need in order to be a healthy, vibrant human being, and with this kind of salt product, you can get this into your diet very easily, very quickly, and I also think quite affordably. |

Studies have consistently shown that heavy consumers of soft drinks discharge large amounts of calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals into the urine. However, one major ingredient of these beverages, distilled water, may be another major factor involved in the loss of minerals in the body.
Although distilled water draws poisons out of the body, it is best to use it for only about 10 days at a time. Discontinue its use when you feel weak or otherwise unwell. It is best to avoid using distilled water as your general drinking water.
Prill beads are another form of water treatment. |

Seaweed and fish are valuable sources of trace minerals including iodine. Fast foods, breads, and dairy products all may have iodine added to them during production. Please refer to Table 13-1 for RDAs and adequate intakes (AI) for iodine.
Dietary iodine is converted into the iodide ion before it is absorbed. The iodide is totally absorbed. The iodide not needed by the thyroid gland is cleared by the kidneys.

Typically, the product goes under a tremendous amount of stress and all the trace minerals that are present in sea salt have been stripped out, which is why the other salts have such a white, uniform appearance. They're just manufactured products, really. Our sea salts and some other sea salts, the French sea salts included, are completely clear. They have absolutely no additives and are taken straight from the ocean, evaporated by the sun and wind only. That's the reason these salts may have a little bit of an off color; they maintain their trace minerals. |

In other words, you're getting more than just calcium and you're also getting trace minerals.
Unfortunately, coral calcium isn't very high in the other macro minerals, such as magnesium and zinc, but it is high in trace minerals. So, it's a great source of what I call inorganic calcium. You can also go the more expensive route and buy chelated calcium supplements from a variety of vitamin manufacturers like Twin Lab. Chelated calcium is yet more bio-available. It is more effective per ounce than other forms of calcium. But, is it more effective per dollar than other forms of calcium? |

Trace Minerals: Zinc, manganese, selenium, molybdenum, chromium, copper, and iodine are all trace minerals that are necessary for overall health and specifically to calm an overexcited nervous system that can lead to adrenal gland maladaption.
Essential Fatty Acids: Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids contribute to a balanced nervous system, increased focus, ability to handle stress, and adrenal gland health and recovery. Unfortunately, deficiencies of omega 3 fatty acids are common, as is over-consumption of unhealthy fats (trans and saturated). |

Oats contain healthy amounts of vitamin E, several B vitamins, the minerals calcium, magnesium, and potassium, and the trace minerals selenium, copper, zinc, iron, and manganese. They are rich in the phytochemicals 1,3-beta-glucan and avenanthramides. Oats contribute both soluble and insoluble fiber. Insoluble fiber benefits the digestive system. The soluble fiber found in oats works like a sponge by going after cholesterol and removing it before it has a chance to clog arteries and lead to heart disease. |

All of the major minerals in Figure 8-1 and the trace minerals in Figure 8-2 are essential for nutrition.
The key to proper mineral nutrition is balance. Minerals should not be eaten in amounts that greatly exceed needs. Some minerals are toxic in excessive amounts. Some minerals, when taken in excess, induce a relative deficiency of other minerals. For example, excessive sodium causes calcium losses. The body needs every one of the nutritional minerals. Deficiency of even one mineral should be avoided. |

Five major minerals (calcium, magnesium, chloride, phosphorous, and potassium) and at least sixteen trace minerals are essential for optimal health. Plants cannot create minerals. They must absorb them from the soil. And if our soils do not have these minerals, our plants will not have them either.
And they don't. Why? Organic fertilizers that contain these minerals are expensive and difficult to obtain. U.S. farmers manage their costs by using fertilizers that replenish the soil with only nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium
(called NPK). |

It is the mother strain, called the Lycium Eleganus, and it's very nutritious and very high in vitamin C, beta-carotene and trace minerals -- over 20 trace minerals, in fact. It also contains a full broad spectrum of amino acids, including all eight essential amino acids. It's very tasty, delicious and juicy -- it tastes quite a bit like a cherry, cranberry and raisin all mixed together.

Bee Propolis Fights Infection
Propolis possesses a multitude of pharmacological activities. It's created by the bees by mixing a resinous sap from trees with wax back at the hive. Bees use it as a kind of glue or general-purpose sealer—they coat the hive with propolis in much the same way we use paint and caulking on our homes. |
| The general consensus is that they contain eighteen amino acids and up to twenty-one trace minerals, and are a rich source of carotenoids and vitamin C. They're also high in fiber (4 g per serving).
You can buy the juice if you don't mind paying astronomical rates and wading through a bunch of multilevel marketing hype.
