You Don't Have to be Afraid of Cancer Anymore

Bill Sardi

Internet search engines for hyaluronic acid (HA) have spread poorly founded opinions that hyaluronic acid supplements promote cancer. Because this misinformation alarms so many people, it will be dealt with at length here. Hyaluronic acid is produced continually throughout life, more so in early childhood and during pregnancy, when cancer rates are almost nonexistent. Yet the opinion prevails that somehow, taking oral HA might cause cancer.

So might news and information derived from news portals, blogs, and other modern-day digital channels that can be targeted directly, either through search engines or by using what are known as "aggregators," like Bloglines, described in detail later. Up-to-the-minute data and a real-time awareness of what is unfolding across the seven continents will be critical in an environment where fear and uncertainty reign. By using the resources available at www.google.com, www.yahoo.com, www.msn.
Services oriented towards collecting public information about individuals and intelligently collating the material are a variant of traditional search engines like Google. Among the most useful are www.zoominfo.com and http://zabasearch.com. Other specialized repositories can also be accessed on the Internet, including http://birthdatabase.com, which can reveal information about birth dates, and the Social Security Death Index, a database of deaths reported since 1962 to the Social Security Administration, accessible at http://ssdi.rootsweb.com.

Using patented pre-fetch technology, this software saves you time surfing the web, conducting research, or using search engines. If you use a PC, you can download the free tool at Browster.com. (Sorry, no Mac version is currently available.) I downloaded it yesterday and have been extremely impressed with its functionality and speed. It allows me to blaze through search engines to find exactly what I'm looking for without having to wait for every page to load. Browster is free of spyware, takes few system resources (so it won't hog your computer's memory), and doesn't bug you with ads.

Web, email and search engines? Fleming: We cover email, search engines, web marketing and integration. I think those four issues are the strongest topics. Mike: What seems to be the most popular area of focus? Fleming: Email. Mike: Interesting. Fleming: Personally, I think that website marketing should be more important than email. It's like the store. If you don't build the store right, you don't build the website for e-commerce properly, especially if the navigation isn't good or the graphics aren't good. Mike: Right.

Besides Google and other such search engines, the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org), the NIH (www.NIH.gov), ADEAR (www.nia.nih .gov/alzheimers), and Healthwise (www.healthwise.org) contain pages upon pages of helpful information, as well as links to other sites that can inform your understanding of your condition and the treatments and tests you may receive. Not only can such information clear up misapprehensions you might have, but the process of navigating the Web can also help you stay mentally active. Your use of the Internet need not be purely information-oriented.

Hoodia fraud: Counterfeit hoodia gordonii weight loss pills dominate the market

This affords them the opportunity to spend a lot more money marketing their products on search engines like Google. I can assure you that right now, if you search Google for hoodia gordonii, at least five out of the top 10 results that show up there as advertisers represent counterfeit hoodia products. There's absolutely no question about this. In fact, it's probably a much higher percentage than that, but you can count on at least half of them being counterfeit.

Suppresses free speech on the internet by pressuring search engines like Google to require "pharmacy licenses" from advertisers before they can post online ads for medications of any kind. Defrauds states and the federal government of hundreds of millions of dollars due to "price fixing" and monopoly drug pricing enforced by the FDA. Distorts science to create any outcome desired through fraudulent clinical trials and cherry-picking trial results.

The Secret of Scent: Adventures in Perfume and the Science of Smell

Type 'molecular recognition' into one of the online search engines and the web will show you over 23,600 pages that refer to it. Consider first how life makes its own molecules. Coumarin comes from the tonka bean, also called kumarii in the Tupi language of French Guyana. Fermentation shrivels the beans and liberates the coumarin, which is so abundant and pure that it spontaneously forms white crystals on the surface of the bean. It tastes sweet when very dilute and bitter otherwise.
What made a difference to beginners like us was, of course, search engines that could find anything for you anywhere in a hundred milliseconds. Soon we had Googled two chemistry labs, one in Loughborough and the other in Moscow, and they were working on our products. In short order we had another molecule called Lioral, a lily-of-the valley material. By the time we were ready to start showing our wares to the fragrance and flavour companies, Chandler Burr's book came out (January 2003). The reaction was extraordinary and completely black and white.

This saves hours of browsing aimlessly through search engines looking for, say, injection-moldable potato starch, or ultrathin recyclable packaging that mimics the chemistry of eggshells. Material Connexion is the world's largest resource of information about new materials—from yarn made of seaweed and cellulose to sheets of crushed almond shells—with libraries in major design centers like New York, Bangkok, and Cologne. In other words, certification of an email subscription offer goes hand in hand with spending money on search engines to bring visitors to your site. If you're spending $100, $1,000 or $10,000 a month to bring visitors to your site, but you're not getting your email newsletter certified, then you're potentially throwing away a huge portion of those visitors. That may explain why, if you look at your log files today, you're getting lots of traffic but not many subscription signups.

Help these search engines purge their pages of fraudulent products and promoters. Consider contacting the FTC or other law enforcement officials on this matter. Only through law enforcement efforts can we get con artists shut down. If you were harmed by the Pure Hoodia company, financially or otherwise, please email Truth Publishing at the email addresses listed on this site, so that we may compile a list of complaints for law enforcement authorities. We may also publish those complaints in an update to this investigation (we will not publish your name or email address, rest assured).

With that idea buried deeper than a John Deere tractor in a Mississippi swamp, newspapers have now decided they can commit financial suicide by suing search engines to stop linking to their stories. Apparently, none of them have figured out they can simply email Google and asked to be removed from the Google News database. Last time I checked, that was a lot easier than filing a lawsuit.

One way many companies use search engines and websites to deceive customers is to construct bogus comparison charts that imply a fair comparison among hoodia products, but that actually place self-serving product recommendations at the top of the list. You can see one such chart in the image shown here. This originally appeared at http://www.thehoodiafactor.com/, but may have been changed by the time you read this. This chart purports to show a collection of various independent hoodia products along with rankings from five stars down to one star.

The courses are designed to train and to educate people on things like email search engines and optimization, web site marketing and so on. The certification is designed to demonstrate competency. It's not an educational vehicle. If you already have the education but you need a credential in order to demonstrate to clients and to potential customers or even your employer, then a certification is what you would need. If you're looking to get an education, then you could take one of our online courses. There are other courses out there. Mike: What are the big areas that you cover?
Fleming: We cover email, search engines, web marketing and integration. I think those four issues are the strongest topics. Mike: What seems to be the most popular area of focus? Fleming: Email. Mike: Interesting. Fleming: Personally, I think that website marketing should be more important than email. It's like the store. If you don't build the store right, you don't build the website for e-commerce properly, especially if the navigation isn't good or the graphics aren't good. Mike: Right. It all depends on which ads appear, of course, and we don't control that, but make no mistake: Many of the top hoodia advertisers in the search engines are actually the top con artists. It's no exaggeration to say that your favorite search engine that starts with a "G" is making millions off counterfeit hoodia product ads. But not intentionally: They're being duped just like many consumers. Who can you trust? As I hinted above, there are honest players in the hoodia market.

You can't redirect someone from your home page without using search engines. These allow you to show half, or say one-third, of your visitors one option and half of them the other option. Mike: Are these pages hosted on the Vertster pages? Wilson: No, they are hosted on your server. The redirect script is on the Vertster server. In the case of Offermatica, the different content that goes into this little section of your web page is hosted on their server and posted dynamically. Mike: What kind of prices are people going to pay for these services? Wilson: Offermatica is 5 cents per visitor.

Attaining Medical Self Sufficiency

However it also has several useful search engines and a wealth of health articles that make it a worthwhile visit even if you're not looking for good bargains on vitamins: http://www.vitamins.net/ ^ Alternative Medicine Information Arguably some of today's alternative medicine will be tomorrow's mainstream practices — being aware of what is going on outside the mainstream can pay off in added health benefits. Alternative medicine treatments may be capable of handling conditions that mainstream medicine can not.
Probably the best of these search engines for this purpose is the Mayo Clinic's "Health 0@sis" site (at http://www.mayo.ivi.com/) which produces a number of hits for most supplements. The only catch is that some of the information is a tad outdated; for \ example, one article claims that most Americans can get all the vitamins they need for optimum health from their diets. In fact there have been any number of studies during recent years to suggest otherwise.
I should also note that I have created a search engine page that permits submitting searches from any of a variety of search engines from one Web site. I had so many friends requesting it for their computers that I finally placed it on the Web — and many people now utilize it as their home page. I try to keep it updated with what I think are the best engines — along with a few plugs for the writing and art projects I'm currently doing. You can access this page at: http://www.kansas.net/~duncan/lists.html — provided, of course, my address hasn't changed by the time you read this).
Helpful article you find today may not be there tomorrow — or may not turn up so quickly in the search engines you used to track it down the first time. Also be sure to keep a notepad and pen near by. Write down anything that strikes you as interesting or important so you can come back to it later or research the subject more fully later. If you're diligent, little by little you'll gain the knowledge you need to help yourself get through the medical problems you face and get the most you can out of the medical system, using it to make you better without needlessly wasting your time and money.
Some of these are also augmented with search engines; these make it possible to quickly get answers to questions you may have as well as to rapidly sort through the materials available. This makes them an exceptional method for researching and retriving information quickly and easily. Among the mainstream sites worth visiting are: American Medical Association: http://www.ama-assn.org/ Journal of the American Medical Association archive search: http://www.ama-assn.org/sci-pub s/pub srch.
You can also use medical search engines in the sites mentioned above for tracking down literature about supplements. By simply typing in the name of the vitamin or mineral in question, you can quickly discover what research has been done. Just as importantly, you can quickly discover if there have been any reports of adverse effects among people taking these supplements and — if there are — you may even be able to see at what dosage the problems start to occur (remembering that most substances go from beneficial to deadly when a certain level is exceeded).
