Topically, sea buckthorn can be applied to the skin in the form of oils, salves, balms, or lotions to treat acne, burns, dermatitis, eczema, infections, rosacea, and wrinkles. In fact, after the disaster at the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl, Russia, sea buckthorn oil was used to treat the burns of people exposed to the leaked radiation. sea buckthorn can also be used to prevent sunburn and radiation burns; Russian cosmonauts, for example, have used this herb to protect their skin against radiation burns when in outer space.

Sea Buckthorn & Cucumber with Ester-C Moisturizing Cream, for Combination Dry Skin ($16.28for 4 ounces) appears to be a good moisturizer for normal to dry skin, though the way Hampton lists some of the ingredients leaves you to wonder exactly what he's using. The good news is this product does not contain irritants. Instead, it uses beneficial, nonvolatile plant oils that have antioxidant activity, and plant extracts with proven soothing properties. © sea buckthorn & Cucumber with Ester-C Moisturizing Mask, for Combination Dry Skin ($8.
If you think that makes this a gentler cleansing option, think again: the geranium and lavender oils in this product are troublesome for skin and for use around the eyes. © sea buckthorn & Cucumber with Ester-C Facial Toner, for Combination Dry Skin ($9.28 for 8 ounces) lists alcohol and witch hazel as part of this toner's herbal base; and contains several other ingredients that, while natural, are also very irritating to skin. © sea buckthorn & Cucumber with Ester-C Moisturizing Cream, for Combination Dry Skin ($16.
AUBREY ORGANICS COMBINATION DRY SKIN 2 © sea buckthorn & Cucumber with Ester-C Facial Cleansing Cream, for Combination Dry Skin ($12.98 for 8 ounces) is similar to the Seaware with Rosa Mosqueta Facial Cleansing Cream, for Dry Skin, above, but with less alcohol. If you think that makes this a gentler cleansing option, think again: the geranium and lavender oils in this product are troublesome for skin and for use around the eyes. © sea buckthorn & Cucumber with Ester-C Facial Toner, for Combination Dry Skin ($9.

Sea Buckthorn Leave-In Conditioner & Curl Activator ($9.15 for 4 ounces) is a lightweight, spray-on conditioner that contains a nice array of conditioning agents and, surprisingly, no irritating plant oils or extracts. This works well on normal to fine hair to make it easier to comb and to provide a small amount of protection from heat. © White Camellia and Jasmine Shine Conditioner Spray ($7.25 for 4 ounces) is a less elegant option than the sea buckthorn Leave-In Conditioner & Curl Activator above. It can still work as an extra-light, alcohol-free spray-on detangler for normal to fine hair.

Calming sensitive line © $$$ Calming Sensitive Bi-Phase Moisturizer ($48 for 1 ounce) contains some intriguing ingredients for sensitive skin, including sea buckthorn oil. However, the preservative-free formula may spell trouble because several ingredients in this water-based lotion won't last long without a stable preservative system, and I'd be concerned about bacterial contamination (although the pump-bottle packaging helps minimize exposure).
That can be helpful for dry skin. sea buckthorn oil has antioxidant capability, but not in the type of packaging this product has. © Vegecell Nighttime Hydrator with Green Tea ($18.75 for 1 ounce) is similar to many of the products Aubrey sells, with no mention of skin type. The alcohol, lavender, peppermint, coltsfoot, nettle, sage, St. John's wort, watercress, lemon, ivy, sage, and lemon are all serious problems for skin. © White Camellia Oil ($15-98 for 0.36ounce) contains exactly what the name indicates, and nothing more.
Instead, it uses beneficial, nonvolatile plant oils that have antioxidant activity, and plant extracts with proven soothing properties. © sea buckthorn & Cucumber with Ester-C Moisturizing Mask, for Combination Dry Skin ($8.98for 4 ounces) works better as a topical scrub for normal to dry skin than a mask, and it contains some good anti-irritants, including chamomile oil. The questionable aspects include the mysterious "coconut fatty acid cream base" and the nut meals used as abrasive agents (these tend to be unevenly shaped particles that can be damaging to skin if used too aggressively).

Several other wild fruits are used as sources of vitamin C. The sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a European and Asian shrub bearing clusters of small nuts, each surrounded by yellow, fleshy pulp (used for jams and juice). The cornelian cherry (Cornus mas, family Cornaceae) is a small tree indigenous to Europe and Asia with edible fruits containing more than 100 mg vitamin C per 100 g (used for jams, jelly, juice or wine). Acerola is supposedly similar to (and named after) the West Asian azarole (Crataegus azarolus) which is cultivated to some extent in southern Europe.
The vitamin C content of sea buckthorn is lower (up to 1 200 mg). Malus domestica apple Apple tree Description A small, deciduous tree with simple leaves, white flowers flushed with pink and fleshy fruits of variable colour and shape (a pome, with a hard core and seeds called pips). Apple differs from pear in the absence of grit in the fruit, the hairy leaves and the yellow pollen (purple in pear flowers). A large number of Malus species produce edible fruits. Cultivated apple is a complex hybrid involving several species, including M. sieversii, M. orientalis and M. sylvestris.

Sea Buckthorn Egg Conditioning Shampoo ($8.90 for 8 ounces), Selenium Natural Blue Shampoo ($8.75 for 8 ounces), and White Camellia & Jasmine Conditioning Shampoo ($8.50 for 8 ounces) all have a coconut-oil soap base, which can be extremely drying to the hair and irritating for the scalp. Almost all of these shampoos also contain fragrant oils that can cause scalp irritation, and despite the inclusion of protein and randomly dispersed conditioning ingredients, they cannot overcome the dryness caused by this soap base. None of these are recommended.

Because the concentration of vitamin C in the berries of sea buckthorn averages as much as 1,400 mg the shrub began to be cultivated on plantations for its fruit. It also contains smaller quantities of vitamins A, B, E and P. The berries furthermore have a balanced proportion of organic acids and sugars, pectin and essential oil, giving the pulp a pleasant and rather unusual aroma. The fruits are gathered when they begin to ripen, when the berries turn orange and are not yet soft. Only the freshly pressed juice from the berries is used as such or made into syrups or preserves.
For purposes of large-scale cultivation on plantations, mainly in the USSR, selective breeding focuses on producing plants without thorns and with larger fruits. sea buckthorn is also popular as an undemanding park and garden ornamental, for its foliage and fruits. Hop, Hops Humulus lupulus l. Hop is a climbing herb found in the temperate regions of Eurasia, growing wild mainly around the fiftieth parallel.
