Don't let the following terms fool you—they're all variants of refined sugar. Refined Sugar May Appear on the Label As... • Amazake • Carob powder • Corn Syrup • Dextrose • High fructose corn syrup • Maple syrup Molasses Processed Fructose Sorbitol Sucrose Turbinado White Sugar PIP YOU KNOW. . . ONE OF THE MANY STEPS FOR REFINING SUGAR INCLUOES BLEACHING (TO OBTAIN THAT *PURE* WHITE COLOR) WITH ANIMAL CHARCOAL FROM OEGREASED COW BONES? Fig. Ill In 1957, Dr. William Coda Martin offered the following definition of a poison.

The nutrition secret behind The Secret

Processed sugar: Sugar greatly impacts the healthy functioning of the nervous system, and refined sugar is a lot like crack in the way it alters (and impairs) brain function. All refined sugars should be avoided, including high-fructose corn syrup (the sweetener in sodas), dextrose, sucrose and others. While you're at it, avoid white bread and refined grains, too, because they're very similar to sugars in the way they impact the nervous system. Aspartame: This artificial chemical sweetener greatly impairs healthy nervous system function.

Martin classified refined sugar as a poison because it is depleted of its life force, vitamins, and minerals. Sugar ingested daily produces a continuously altered internal pH, meaning the body becomes more acidic. More minerals are drawn from deep within the body in an attempt to restore a proper balance. For example, to protect the blood, calcium is taken from the bones and teeth in such great amounts that decay and weakening of the bones begins and this leads to osteoarthritis. Consumption of refined sugar can damage the digestive tract and eventually affect every organ in the body.

Halloween sugar, food additives and the commercialization of holidays

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

All the food, candy and sodas that are going to be consumed over the next several holidays have already been made in a factory, stored in a warehouse, shipped on a truck and loaded onto store shelves, just waiting for hungry, gullible consumers to come along and shovel down their own share of processed food additives and refined sugar derivatives. There's a kind of sick beauty in the whole thing. I'm always struck by the idea that we must actually be the wealthiest people in the world, because we have so much "food" around here that people are actually just giving it away for free.

CNN Health Story Promotes Pizza, Ice Cream, Burgers as "Great for Your Waist"

Pizza is made with refined flour (which lacks vitamins and minerals) that's cooked to high temperatures (creating cancer-causing acrylamides), then smothered with tomato sauce made with refined sugar (yes, there's sugar in most pizza sauce), then layered with more processed meat (yet more cancer risk) and processed cheese (can you spell H-E-A-R-T D-I-S-E-A-S-E?). Slapping a few flappy bits of overcooked green peppers and canned mushrooms into this pie does NOT make it a health food. Geesh. You would think this stuff would be obvious by now.

The True History of Chocolate

To transport the refined sugar so that it could be shipped by sea to his chocolate and cocoa factory, Hershey built modern electric railroads, one to the port of Matanzas, the other to Havana; both had passenger service. Along with other American enterprises in Cuba, Hershey's sugar town was ended when Fidel Castro and his bearded revolutionaries toppled the Batista government in 1959.

The prudent woman would decrease all sources of refined sugar in the diet by avoiding candies, pastries, and desserts; she would also avoid sweetened cereals, white breads, or any food containing refined carbohydrates. Decreasing the total carbohydrate intake in favor of increased protein may be advisable as well. A recent study of women found that weight loss of as little as 5 percent with a plan that included decreased carbohydrates and increased exercise lead to a decrease in the ability of LDL cholesterol to cause atherosclerosis.
Dairy products and calcium interfere with magnesium absorption, and refined sugar increases the urinary excretion of magnesium.14 Further data confirm these findings by showing that women with PMS have increased consumption of dietary fat, carbohydrates, and simple sugars and decreased consumption of protein. This study also showed that PMS sufferers had a higher number of "eating incidences" than women who did not meet the criteria for PMS.
In a nutritional analysis published in 1983, Guy Abraham reported that PMS patients consumed 62 percent more refined carbohydrates than women who did not have PMS, 275 percent more refined sugar, 79 percent more dairy products, 78 percent more sodium, 53 percent less iron, 77 percent less manganese, and 52 percent less zinc.12 A diet higher in dairy products can also contribute to PMS symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, and nervous tension.
Eliminating refined sugar and simple sugars (corn syrup, honey, fructose, maple syrup, white grape juice concentrate, and others) will help to assure optimal immune function. Eliminating saturated fats such as red meat, butter, cheese, and ice cream, even in the short run, will enable the body to utilize essential fatty acids such as the fats from olive oil, canola oil, and ocean fish. These essential fatty acids are important in the promotion of the anti-inflammatory prostaglandins PgEl and PgE3; reducing inflammation is a primary goal in healing a sexually transmitted infection.
Eliminate refined sugar and chocolate. • Avoid food additives, coloring agents, pesticides, and herbicides. • Reduce salt and alcohol intake. • Reduce or avoid almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, and peanuts. and increases high-lysine foods has become quite popular. This concept arose out of two findings. First, we know that the replication of the herpes simplex virus requires the manufacture of proteins rich in arginine, and arginine itself may be a stimulator of HSV replication.
A serving of refined sugar increases the urinary excretion of calcium,43 and an excess of corticosteroids can cause osteoporosis. High sodium intake can also cause an increase in urinary excretion of calcium in some individuals.44 Refined grains and flours may also play a part in the development of osteoporosis. Due to their lack of nutrient-rich germ and bran, there is a significant loss of vitamins and minerals in these foods. The refining process produces white flour stripped of B6, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, and zinc.

It's estimated the average American colon processes approximately 100 pounds of refined sugar and 75 pounds of high fructose corn syrup every year. Dentists are reporting that the front teeth of many young boys and girls are almost completely void of enamel from drinking too much soda. "One-fifth of one- and two-year-old children consume soft drinks ..."soplease reconsider how damaging it is to put a little soda in your child's bottle or sippy-cup.37 • "In 2004, Americans spent $66 billion on carbonated drinks—and billions more on noncarbonated soft drinks.

Because of its excessive carbohydrate content, lessen your reliance on refined sugar. Cut down on the sweet items and replace them with raisins, dates, prunes, sultanas, almonds and lots of fruit. Honey is an ideal substitute for sugar—have a spoonful of honey if you need to sweeten something. You can chew honeycomb instead of eating chocolate. Honey isn't just a sweetener, though, as international research suggests it can effectively inhibit the growth of bacteria. How this works is as yet unclear, but it would seem that everyone who has researched honey agrees that it has health benefits.

Not to mention the 13 grams of bleached, refined sugar per cup, leaching minerals from the muscles and bones, and leading to the beginning stages of insulin resistance. The entire concept of manufacturing a packaged cereal that is healthy is an absolute impossibility. The food industry is entitled to use a large variety of solvents and chemicals to improve the taste, color, and texture of its products. Food producers have free reign over food production, and there is nobody out there that is going to make sure our children don't get fed with another sweet tasting poison.

Avoidance of tobacco, iron supplements, foods with refined sugar, and excessive alcohol (with the exception of moderate amounts of red wine), should not require any discussion. Prostatitis and urinary frequency are common. The use of saw palmetto berry extract (160 mg twice a day, 75-85% extract), pollen (cemitin), pygeum, and nettles may be helpful. Zinc (gluconate, up to 30 mg), boron (3-12 mg), and soy, may be helpful additions to a dietary supplement regimen.
One wonders if women, after diagnosis of breast cancer, don't alter their diet, reduce refined sugar intake, and experience prolonged remission from disease, which is mistakenly attributed to their treatment (surgery, radiation, Tamoxifen)? In Italy, the diets of more than 2,500 women were analyzed and it was found that sugary foods were associated with a small increased risk for breast cancer. [Annals Oncology 17: 341-45, 2006] A study of 49,000 Canadian women produced similar findings.

The concentrated phosphoric acid, artificial flavors and sweeteners, large quantities of refined sugar (mostly fructose corn syrup) and other chemicals contained in cola soft drinks are very destructive for biological life forms. So the body's cells will consider them to be poisonous and go into a stress response. Their energy production, measured by the amount of ATP molecules they make, begins to drop abruptly as a result of this response. This practically means that the tissues in the body are increasingly cut off from the routes of energy supply and, hence, become weakened.
The foods that have the most acidifying effects in the body include milk, dairy products, meat and its products, tinned or frozen foods, white bread, pasta and pastry made from bleached and refined flour, refined sugar, alcoholic beverages, diet beverages, soft drinks, sports drinks, packaged fruit juices, preserved foods, processed breakfast cereals, chocolates, ready-made cakes, potato chips (crisps), hydrogenated oils and fats, and most fast/junk foods. The exaggerated ratio of daily-required vitamins may apply only to the severely undernourished person.

Glucose (especially refined sugar) is the main source of food for cancerous tissue growth CHAPTER FOUR HOW HEALTHY IS YOUR COLON? It's not a common topic of conversation, so most of us don't give much thought to colon health or pay close attention to our bowel patterns. But, if you're serious about restoring and maintaining your health, you have to start paying more attention to your colon by monitoring your bowel movements. As odd as it may sound, you have to investigate what you eliminate! It's hard to know exactly what's "normal".

Second, the sweet taste of the soda is either due to the addition of refined sugar (bad) or a sugar substitute (very bad). Third, if your soda is caffeinated, it is also toxic to the gastrointestinal tract. Coffee, another caffeinated drink which many people have come to depend on daily, can be especially damaging to the bowels. Coffee also disrupts the growth of healthy digestive flora. Alcoholic beverages are also dangerous sources of colon toxins. Let me show you just how addictive these beverages (or legal drugs I say) really can be in your body.

However, refined carbohydrates, such as pasta, white bread, pastries and cakes are quickly broken down into glucose and act just as refined sugar does. See directions for these cleanses in The Amazing Liver & Gallbladder Flush or earlier chapters. Obviously, sugar-rich foods and beverages, such as chocolate, ice cream, and sodas should be avoided. Reducing refined sugar and eating smaller, more frequent meals (with more protein, fat, and fiber) will help balance blood sugar and keep it on a more even keel. But for goodness' sake, don't reach for aspartame instead of sugar: It contains an amino acid called phenylalanine, which also has the potential to be a migraine trigger. (I won't even get into the whole aspartame story—let's not go there. Suffice it to say, I don't recommend it even if you don't suffer from headaches.) I wish there were an easy formula for determining what your individual triggers are, but there isn't.
It might be hard to follow, but the avoidance of refined sugar, dairy, salt, tobac- it's sure to work. Dr. Starbuck's Fruit Peel Candy, etc. for Seasonal Allergies "THERE'S POLLEN in the air."
