You get a different population of probiotics in your gut and you can tolerate more and more. After about three weeks, it is not a problem unless you have hit your limit. There are people who do get gassy. We found by putting in alpha-galactosidase -- which is the natural enzyme in Beano -- that really helped dramatically.
Mike: You also have probiotics in there.
Dr. Liers: It has probiotics in it. There are so many moderating factors with the herbs in there. We put in marshmallow root, and that kind of soothes and calms the intestines. We have glutamine. |

| In my many years of practice, I have tried numerous probiotics. I recommend Latero-Flora™ because I have seen the most dramatic results with this product. Latero-Flora™ has demonstrated significant effectiveness in easing gastrointestinal symptoms and food sensitivities while enhancing digestive function. If you choose to use your own brand of probiotics during the 6-Day Oxygen Colon Cleanse, or on a regular basis, research these supplements well and make sure you are using a very high quality product. |

If you do buy probiotics or food with probiotic compounds make sure that they contain the probiotics that have been shown to work, including Lactobacillus, S. boulardii, B. lactis, and Streptococcus thermophilus. Studies of L. acidophilus/Bifidobacterium infantis or L. acidophiluslL. bulgaricus did not show that they were effective treatments for antibiotic-associated diarrhea. |
| France (thirty-two doses per day per 1,000 people). probiotics for which there is some evidence of efficacy include the bacteria Lactobacillus GG and the yeast Saccharomyces boulardii (S. boulardii). Strains of Lactobacillus include L. rhamnosus GG, L. acidophilus NCFM, L. casei Shirota, L. reuteri MM53, L. casei CRL431, L. rhamnosus GR-1, and L.fermentum RC-14. They can be taken as an oral supplement or consumed as an additive in various yogurts and other food products. probiotics compete in the gut with pathological bacteria like Clostridium difficile and Escherichia coli (E. |
| As for other uses of probiotics, they seem to help those with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). I don't see a lot of evidence for helping constipation or diarrhea, and the controlled trials for intravaginal use of probiotics to prevent yeast and urinary tract infections in women simply haven't been done. I think the best way to get those healthy bacteria working for you is to eat a well-balanced diet with cheese and yogurt, which are full of natural bacteria that can work for you, in addition to nuts, fruits, and vegetables. |
| If you have to take antibiotics, I recommend taking probiotics with them. When you wipe out your normal colonic "flora," or bacteria, with a course of antibiotics, you can be affected by the colonization of more harmful bacteria like Clostridium difficile and Escherichia coli (E. coli), which can cause antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
As for other uses of probiotics, they seem to help those with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). |

This nondigestible type of fiber encourages the growth of helpful and healthful bacteria in the digestive tract, thus producing probiotics! Consumption of onions and garlic, therefore, might reduce your risk of suffering from traveler's diarrhea or diarrhea due to oral antibiotic use and may ease the terrible discomfort of Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In addition, probiotics can help fend off yeast infections and other bacterial overgrowth. |

Researchers believe this is why supplementation with probiotics has also shown promising results in treating the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

| For example, the lives of some of the most important resident probiotics involved in human digestion and intestinal health depend on byproducts produced by the transient probiotics.
Therefore, in many cases, these two very different types of microorganisms nonetheless enjoy a complex symbiotic relationship that may dramatically influence the health and well being of your entire body. Bacillus laterosporus (B.O.D.* strain) is one of the most rare and unique of the "friendly" transient microorganisms found in the human gastrointestinal tract. Bacillus laterosporus is a spore-bearing bacterium. |

People ask me all the time why we want to put probiotics in the formula, and why is it so important. It's really because so many people are taking antibiotics today. It takes out those beneficial bacteria. What happens when we take out those beneficial bacteria is we lose part of our immune system.
In addition, probiotics are what helps make our B vitamins. When you get really run down and you get really stressed -- which is in the everyday world -- you need to have the right amount of good bacteria. This is why we need the probiotics in our system. |

The probiotics' best-known duty is to fix the accidental damage caused by antibiotics—that is, the destruction of the helpful bacteria in the intestines. probiotics replace these bacteria and also help us digest food, manufacture vitamin K and other nutrients, and regulate cholesterol levels. In addition, they work with the immune system to help keep yeast and other organisms from growing unchecked and producing toxic substances. Some studies suggest that probiotics may even be able to ward off colon cancer. |

One of the reasons some probiotics are friendly has to do with their taste in metals. Remember how almost every form of life on earth needs iron to survive? Well, one of the exceptions is also one of the most common probiotics, a bacterium called Lactobacillus, which uses cobalt and manganese instead of iron—which means it's not hunting yours.
Your digestive system is a veritable jungle, with hundreds of species of bacteria competing for survival—most of them working with you, but a few of them ready to work against you if they have the chance. |
| To provide a similar effect, some doctors advise women who are prone to yeast infections to take probiotics, either by eating them in foods like yogurt or by taking a supplement. Just as they do in the digestive system, probi-otic friendly bacteria act as naturally occurring helpful bacteria and create a barrier effect that inhibits the growth of vaginal yeast. One of the reasons some probiotics are friendly has to do with their taste in metals. Remember how almost every form of life on earth needs iron to survive? |

Yet today you can find more than three hundred studies on PubMed linking probiotics to the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. It has become well accepted, says Mullin,
"that gut bacteria help drive inflammatory bowel disease and inflammation, and over the past decade an increasing number of studies indicate that by changing the mix of bacteria, probiotics may help patients with these autoimmune diseases of the gut significantly."

Who is at risk for Crohn's disease?
Crohn's disease is most often diagnosed in people between the ages of 20 and 30. Individuals with relatives who suffer from some form of IBD also run a much greater risk of developing Crohn's disease. Approximately 20 percent of people coping with Crohn's disease have a close blood relative (most often a brother or sister) with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. |

Follow a course of goldenseal with probiotics such as acidophilus. Large amounts may cause diarrhea and over stimulate the nervous system. The fresh plant can be irritating to mucous membranes.
Range and Appearance
Goldenseal, native to Canada and the eastern United States, is a perennial that grows from 6 to 12 inches tall in the rich soil of moist, shady woods. It usually has two leaves, each with five to seven lobes, doubly toothed, with one leaf larger than the other. The flowers are single, small, and greenish white, with rose-colored sepals. |

Researchers have learned that healthy bacterial flora can make a difference in weight loss. The probiotics in yogurt enhance gastrointestinal health and a healthy GI system has a lot to do with how you metabolize calories.
Finally, while emerging evidence points to the power of foods like yogurt to actually enhance weight loss, long-established studies confirm that a rich supply of calcium in the diet, like that from yogurt, is a critical component of a weight reduction diet for other reasons: namely muscle and bone preservation. |
