I mean, if we're going to get serious about driver safety and ban cell phones, we should ban anyone who's taking a great number of prescription drugs from driving.
I was talking with a traffic control officer here recently who said that as many as 30 to 35 percent of all traffic accidents are caused by people who are dosed up on prescription drugs. Another third or so are caused by people on alcohol or illegal drugs. So prescription drugs are causing just as many accidents as people doped up on cocaine, marijuana and alcohol. |

But let's compare those 10 deaths to how many Americans have been killed by prescription drugs this year alone. Even the Journal of the American Medical Association says in a peer-reviewed study that prescription drugs cause 100,000 deaths a year in this country.
Ten children die in this school shooting, and it gets a lot of attention. Why? It's violent; people pay attention to violence. Meanwhile, we have 100,000 Americans (and that's a conservative number) dying every year just from prescription drugs side effects, and it gets no attention. Why? It's not violent. |

Just what it means to be swallowing the flotsam and jetsam of thousands of medicine chests is a mystery that Dr. Kolpin says may not be solved for generations. The levels of any one drug in the rivers are so low that it would take many years of drinking the water to get even one therapeutic dose. |

REPPED: The Governor of Illinois is launching a program to allow its citizens to re-import prescription drugs from not only Canada, but other countries around the world. It's all a part of a growing grassroots effort to give citizens access to more affordable prescription drugs.
A growing number of states like Minnesota, Wisconsin and New Hampshire have officially thumbed their noses at the FDA by creating online resources that actually lists Canadian pharmacies where people can purchase prescription drugs. |

The first thing you should know is that these numbers were achieved with absolutely no prescription drugs whatsoever. I frequently write about the dangers of prescription drugs, and I’m a strong advocate of natural health, an outspoken critic of the pharmaceutical industry, the FDA and prescription drugs in general. I wouldn't take a statin drug if you paid me millions of dollars. I wouldn't touch a pharmaceutical unless it was used in an extreme emergency, for a short term only. |

They're an accident waiting to happen. |

On network television, the plots of prime-time shows revolve around brand name prescription drugs, at times at the suggestion of marketers at a pharmaceutical company.
The medicine promoters have turned what were once normal life events—menopause, despair from a divorce, anxiety caused by a workaholic boss—into maladies that can be treated with a pill. After all, when patients are customers and medicines are commodities, the industry thrives when people are ill—or believe they are.
The companies have found the United States, with its consumer-driven culture, a perfect medicine market. |
| Parry knew what worked to sell prescription drugs. He was the chief branding officer at inChord Communications, Inc., a network of medical marketing companies with hundreds of employees.
"The idea behind 'condition branding' is relatively simple," he wrote. "If you can define a particular condition and its associated symptoms in the minds of physicians and patients, you can also predicate the best treatment for that condition."
Parry traced marketers' use of this technique back to the early twentieth century. |
| She often drops in on groups gathered to play cards, among whom a leading topic of conversation has become prescription drugs.
Gloria said some of the older people she talks to are on so many drugs that they have lost track of what they are taking them for. Doctors have prescribed drugs to some people, she said, not because the person has a new illness but to remedy the side effects of the first medicine they prescribed. A good geriatrician would explain that such a practice, which can quickly lead to a cascade of pills, should almost never be done. |

Keep your prescription drugs to yourself. Your drugs may be harmful to someone else.
• Tell your doctor about any symptoms you believe are caused by a drug— prescription or nonprescription—that you take.
• Take only medicines that are necessary. Avoid taking nonprescription drugs while taking prescription drugs for a medical problem.
• Before your doctor prescribes for you, tell him about your previous experiences with any drug—beneficial results, side effects, adverse reactions or allergies.
• Take medicine in good light after you have identified it. |

All prescription drugs have unintended side effects, and many drugs deplete the body of essential nutrients. Today, most consumers are not being told about these drug-induced nutritional deficiencies, and they continue taking pharmaceuticals without knowing they are often leaving their body in a dangerous state of nutrient depletion that can lead to chronic degenerative disease. |

| If you look at how many people have been killed by prescription drugs and organized medicine, you will realize that organized medicine is not the answer. If you look around at the population and see how diseased we are -- with diabetes, cancer, dementia, Alzheimer's disease and so on -- you will realize our medical system is not working. It hasn't produced any cures for the diseases we were promised we would see cures for. It hasn't extended the lifespan of our population. |

And we do that through the use of synthetic chemicals and prescription drugs.
The message that we truly need to hear is one I've been repeating for years: being healthy does not require the use of synthetic chemicals. Being healthy is something that your body was designed to achieve naturally, you have a blueprint for health in every cell of your body right now. It's called your DNA. And your DNA was designed and fine-tuned over hundreds of thousands of years of human evolution to thrive and survive in harmony with the natural environment. |

Modern society is addicted to drugs
Someday historians will look back on this era and wonder with great bewilderment how we could poison our children with such toxic chemicals, how we could poison an entire generation with prescription drugs and how we could keep all our senior citizens in a zombie state, dosed up on mind-altering drugs. They will wonder, "How could we do this as a society? Were we insane? Were we completely out of our minds? What was wrong with this society?"
At that time, society will have moved way beyond chemical-based medicine. |

It will be a financial success because people are willing to pay almost anything to perpetuate the mythology that prescription drugs can release us from a lifetime of poor decisions.
But there's more to this story! Acomplia will likely be a very popular drug, and five or ten years down the road, after tens of millions of Americans have taken it, we may begin to find some problems with it, in the same way that we found serious health problems with Vioxx, Baycol, NSAIDs and antidepressants. People may be harmed by Acomplia in ways that modern doctors and the makers of Acomplia cannot foresee. |

Dosages of prescription drugs must be individualized for you by your doctor. Be sure the dosage instructions are on the label. Advice to "take as directed" is not helpful if you forget the doctor's instructions or didn't understand them. Nonprescription drugs have instructions on the labels regarding how much to take.
9—When To Take
Dose schedules vary for medicines and for patients.
Drugs prescribed on a schedule should usually be taken at approximately the same times each day. Some must be taken at regular intervals to maintain a steady level of the drug in the body. |

They redefine normalcy as illness, and once they give it a disease name, suddenly everybody's taking prescription drugs for it.
That's how Ritalin became so popular. They invented a disease and gave it a name. They dreamed up "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder" and suddenly it was a bona-fide disease that demanded prescription drugs. And of course, psychiatrists were happy to dole out those prescriptions because they got kickbacks from drug companies or ego-feeding power rushes by pushing prescriptions onto little kids who really just had a problem with too much sugar in their diets. |

Indeed pills — and by that I mean prescription drugs that require a physician's signed authorization — have become interwoven with the very notion of what constitutes health. In a strange and trusting way, we see them not as cures so much as partners — their message about why they work in, say, reducing cholesterol or lowering blood pressure being almost as important as the pill itself. It is hard not to note the irony: the generation of Americans who rebelliously experimented with drugs is now a generation upon whom drugs are experimented, with barely a squeak of protest. |

This is how conventional medicine creates doubt in the minds of customers who, out of fear, continue to suffer the harm of prescription drugs, chemotherapy and other barbaric medical procedures. You see this all the time with cancer. An oncologist is talking with a patient, trying to convince them that they have three to six months to live, but if they get chemotherapy, he says, they will live six to 12 months. Of course, the patient wants to live six to 12 months, so the patient says, "Go ahead, doctor. Put in the IV and pump me up with toxic chemicals. |

And those solutions more often than not come in the form of prescription drugs.
In contrast, people who refuse to be victims look for answers within themselves. They understand that they have the ability to alter their outcomes by making new decisions, by learning new information and by shaping their lives one day at a time, in a way that serves their long-term goals.
If Acomplia is approved, will likely be a blockbuster success regardless of whether or not it actually works. |

Unlike the traditional NSAIDs, which came in over-the-counter strengths, these were all prescription drugs. Yet despite the fact that they required a prescription and cost far more than the traditional NSAIDs, the COX-2 inhibitors contributed to a dramatic increase in NSAID use. Arthritis sufferers were eager to try medications that could ease joint pain and inflammation without causing gastrointestinal upset and other side effects associated with earlier NSAIDs.
But as most people know, while COX-2 inhibitors may not pose a threat to the stomach, they are not without side effects. |

Instead, we put them in prison, dose them up on drugs and blame them for their actions when I believe they've actually been instigated by the prescription drugs and toxic chemicals in their foods.
The don't need to be punished as mush as they simply need to be nourished. I know this stands at odds with the current "incarcerate everybody" mentality that dominates the culture here in the United States, the land of prisons -- but it's the truth. Why are we the country with the greatest prison population in the world? |
