Newman: What they do is educate pet owners, and what we also have is a direct phone line people can use. If they call 520-886-1727, they can get educated on their animal's specific needs. We're not a clinic that diagnoses; we're not there to prescribe medications. We do know a great deal of alternative care methods that can be applied to animals and can help reverse disease or prevent symptoms from occurring. Mike: This is really interesting. I want to get back to this. First, can you give a description of what is wrong with the pet food that is out there right now?

I have heard the craziest explanations from pet owners about why their dogs' hips hurt. Dr. Liers: Overbreeding. Mike: pet owners are almost desperate to find something to ease the pain. Now, you have a product called Joint Health Formula for Pets with some potent ingredients in here. In addition, you use some vitamin D3, which I applaud by the way. I mean, that has turmeric, grape seed extract; what is the thinking behind this product? Dr. Liers: Joint Health Formula for Pets is the same as Joint Health Formula for people, except for desiccated liver as flavoring for the pets.

Big Pharma takes over veterinary medicine; dogs and cats drugged with chemicals for profit

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
See article keywords and concepts
There is no scientifically justifiable role in veterinary medicine for the majority of the pharmaceuticals now being pushed onto vets, vet techs, and pet owners. Even the pet shelters are being influenced by Big Pharma. When I rescued my pet from a local animal shelter, I was given a DVD sponsored by a drug company. It offered to teach me about pet behavior while brainwashing me into thinking I needed to give my dog toxic pills for preventing ticks and fleas. As this simple example demonstrates, even the animal shelters are now in bed with Big Pharma.
Knowing that massive profits could be generated through the bodies of pets, drug companies have spent two decades pursuing an aggressive campaign of rewriting vet school curricula, influencing veterinarians and brainwashing pet owners into thinking their dogs, cats and horses need drugs in order to be healthy.
The idea of actually feeding your dog such high doses of poison that it ends up in the skin tissues where it kills ticks and fleas should be horrifying to any intelligent pet owner, yet most pet owners just buy what their vet tells them to buy, and they feed one chemical after another to their pets, oblivious to the fact that they're actually poisoning them. (And then they wonder why their animals die of cancer a few years later... gee, didn't anybody connect the dots here?

Dr. Liers: Joint Health Formula for Pets is the same as Joint Health Formula for people, except for desiccated liver as flavoring for the pets. It is a multi-dimensional product, just like Diabetes Defense.
Mike: Many pet owners say, "Well that is going to get very expensive for me to keep buying these vitamins." But have they ever checked what it costs to put a dog in a pet emergency room because they are about to go into a coma from diabetes or low blood sugar? That is about a thousand dollars a day. Dr. Liers: Certainly, people have short-sighted views and they respond to their conditioning. It is the same with drinking and cigarettes. You do not have money to pay the rent and do other things, but you have money for those habits that you have. That is conditioned response.

And compared with those who have no pets, pet owners make fewer trips to the doctor. Not too long ago researchers at Baker Medical Research Institute in Prahan, Australia, compared blood pressure and cholesterol levels in 784 pet owners and 4,957 people who had no pets. The pet owners' levels were significantly lower, suggesting that pet ownership may help prevent heart disease. Dog owners must walk their dogs, which is an excellent way to get regular, moderate exercise.

Food Pets Die For: Shocking Facts About Pet Food

It is apparent that either lams changes the feeding instructions on its dog food or continues to be involved in a number of lawsuits initiated by other pet food companies or pet owners who have seen weight loss in their pets while feeding this product. Pet Food Manufacturers and Veterinarians We have all taken our pets to the veterinary clinic for one reason or another. Most clinics that I have visited have had the walls lined with various kinds of pet foods, some prescription, some nonprescription. In my opinion, this is unethical unless a veterinarian has training in pet nutrition.
Spratt traveled to England and while there noticed how pet owners fed their dogs leftover biscuits. This piqued his interest. Spratt decided that he could concoct a better biscuit for dogs from wheat, vegetables, beet root, and meat. Spratt ended up becoming a long-term resident of England, and sold his Dog Cakes in the United Kingdom until 1890 when a public company bought his formula and began operations in the United States. Spratt continued producing the Dog Cakes in the United Kingdom and his London factory was one of the largest dog food production operations in the world. Other U.S.
However, despite this reassurance, PFI has never outlined what steps have been taken by the pet food companies to assure pet owners that companion animals are not in commercial pet foods. In January 2002, once again I wrote and asked Ekedahl and Cook to advise what testing the pet food industry actually conducts on its raw material. As of my publication deadline in November 2002, I have not received a reply. In its information sheets PFI assures consumers that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is involved at the federal level.
Over the years, I have spoken to many pet owners about the dangers of commercial pet foods. In the beginning, every single pet owner was positive that the government closely regulates the industry. One pet-supply owner became incensed when I told him that this was an unregulated industry. He was convinced that a government agency inspected every piece of meat and grain put into pet food. There was a time when I believed that too. Since I am Canadian, I first approached our Provincial Ministry of Agriculture in 1991 about pet food regulation in Canada.

Deceased pets were and are being "recycled" into pet food unbeknownst to most pet owners. In 1992, when I first notified veterinarians in Ontario as well as the general Canadian public via a live radio show explaining that euthanized pets were being sent to rendering facilities in Quebec, the public outcry was tremendous. Veterinarians immediately cancelled their contracts with the dead-stock removal company and the euthanized pets were sent to the local humane society, which operates a cremation facility. Oops!
Some veterinarians, including Lynn Nelson in Santa Monica, California, stated that about 50 percent of pet owners want their pets cremated. For the owners who do not want cremation, a company picks up the dead pets once a week from the vet clinic and delivers them to a rendering plant. The shelters I corresponded with had a little different perspective. Most were aware that the company they contracted with trucked the animals to rendering plants. Few vet clinics or shelters have their own cremation facility.

In another study, at the University of Oklahoma, a group of recent widows who were pet owners seemed to adjust better to the death of a spouse—both physically and psychologically—than a group who didn't own pets. Dr. Hiroko Akiyama, who conducted the study, says "Non-pet owners, for example, had more persistent fears, headaches, and feelings of panic. They also tended to take more drugs than the pet owners." In light of such studies, it comes as no surprise that a healthy home has healthy, happy pets with personalities that match up well with those in the family.

REPPED: Mike: Whenever I talk to pet owners, whose pets have joint problems, pain or disease, I hear a distorted line of reasoning -- the same in human medicine -- which is that it's just genetic. I hear that all the time. Newman: Oh, I know. Mike: What's your take on that? Newman: My take on it is that we're making a lot of excuses instead of addressing what's really happening to our pets. This is the same as telling people that their animals are seniors at the age of seven.

Another interesting feature that has been reported by many pet owners using the mussel extract on a pet is the regrowth of fur and hair where bald patches previously existed. Typical comments from pet owners who have used the mussel extract on their animals have been, "I could not believe that my old dog could change so dramatically in such a short time, from his lethargic, uninterested state to the vibrant dog that now greets me at the door with his leash in his mouth anxious to get out for a walk.

They have to attempt to educate pet owners about how to keep their pets healthy. And the number one way to do that is to give their pets outstanding nutrition so that they don't experience disease in the first place. Nutrition and farm animals Moving on from household pets and dogs, let's look at some other mammals where the relationship between nutrition and health is rather apparent. I'm talking about farm animals. And ranchers tend to have solid knowledge about the correlation between nutrition and disease.

Other pet owners may want to use canned pet food, baby food, or broth to get their animals to eat it. A great success story involving a horse was told to me by one woman who treated her 20-year-old horse named "Lad" for melanoma with Protocel. Lad was a white Arabian-Bay mix (about 90 percent Arabian) and was suffering from a type of melanoma that light-skinned horses often get. Lad had melanoma spots on various parts of his body and one bulging tumor that had originated inside his right ear that was growing outward as well as inward.

When dosing animals, however, the above instructions are only general. pet owners may need to adjust the dose size or frequency to their animal's specific situation. If the above dosing only brings about stabilization, an extra dose can be administered and all doses can be spaced more frequently around the clock. Or Protocel Formula 50 can be tried instead of Formula 23. How Effective Is Protocel for Cancer? This is a difficult question to answer with specific numbers. Cancer is not a "simple" condition like a single virus infection.

One study of 5,741 people in Melbourne, Australia, showed that pet owners had lower levels of blood pressure and cholesterol than non-owners—even when both groups had the same heart-harming habits, like smoking or a high-fat diet. In another study, a group of 96 heart attack survivors were studied for a year after they were released from the University of Maryland School of Medicine's coronary care unit in Baltimore. The researchers found that more pet owners were still alive a year later than those without pets to go home to.

FDA officials said that most of the by-products ended up in pet food, but this fate cannot be confirmed (and would be unlikely to reassure pet owners, regardless). Inspections revealed that 20% of about 2,500 feed mills handling meat-and-bone meal took no precautions to prevent the meal from getting into animal feed. No federal agency tests for prohibited material in feed for cattle. Worse, the bans on use of meat-and-bone meal do not apply to other farm animals such as pigs or chickens because officials assume that feed for these animals never enters the food supply for cows or people.
