Will you join me in letting Amy's know that we don't want yeast extract in our organic food? If so, post a comment at the Amy's Kitchen website and let them know you don't want this processed taste enhancer substance in your food!
Specifically, we want no yeast extract, no MSG, no hidden MSG, and no hydrolyzed or autolyzed ingredients. As organic food consumers, we wish to protect our health, not compromise it. We want our brains to work at peak performance, not to spend hours throbbing in pain due to yeast extract side effects. |

Yes, organic foods can be pricey if you just shop in your supermarket, but you probably have a lot more choices for organic food in your community than you realize. All it takes is a little research to find out.
To find a source of organic foods near you or to order online, check out the following websites: www.organicfood.com, www.organicconsumer.org, www.eatwell.com, and www. diamondorganics.com. Also, local farmer's markets can be a great source for organic foods, often at lower prices than you will pay in the supermarket or health food store. |

It's made by a company called organic food Bar, Inc., and it has a fantastic combination of healing ingredients put together in a tasty, portable format that makes it convenient to get good nutrition into your body even if you're on the run.
You might be saying, "Oh great, not another health food bar. I see all sorts of health food bars at the grocery store or health food store." Sure, there are a lot of them, and most of them, frankly, are garbage. Most of them are loaded with refined sugars, artificial ingredients, additives and fillers. |

Food-Philosophy Principle #6. Eat organic food as Often as You Can Afford It
Organic foods are grown without pesticides and with farming methods that sustain soil quality. You can buy organic vegetables, fruits, dairy products, and eggs at natural food stores, specialty markets (such as Trader Joe's), and many supermarkets. You can even get a few organic foods at Costco and Wal-Mart.

In fact, if you're fighting any chronic diseases right now and you have trouble taking nutritional supplements, or you're looking for something that tastes delicious, I would recommend eating one of these organic food bars every single day. Just make it part of your lunch.
The next two ingredients are organic blueberry powder and organic raspberry powder. And I'm excited to see these ingredients in this food bar, because again it shows the wisdom of the team that formulated this bar in recognizing the nutritional value of wholefood concentrates. |
| By the way, I have to mention this with every product review: I receive no money whatsoever from the organic food Bar Company, and they are not aware I'm writing this review. All of this is my own opinion, and it has not been approved by the manufacturer in any way whatsoever. I don't profit a dime from your purchase of this product. I simply cover it here because I think this is a very healthy product that people need to know about. |
| But with the organic food Bar, we're talking about a solid, healthy product that doesn't have any of the negative ingredients that are typically in other food bars. It has no refined sugars, no trans-fatty acids and no filler ingredients. In fact, it's filled with so much goodness that I'm surprised it can sell at the competitive price it does. I know what these ingredients cost from being in the industry, and these are not cheap -- for example, they use agave nectar as a sweetener. It's one of the best sweeteners out there; it has an extremely low glycemic index. |
| But by eating the powder itself, you get all those nutrients into your body with each and every swallow of this organic food bar. And we don't have to list all of them out to know that they're in there. In fact, there's not room on the package to list everything that's inside it. You have to be wise enough as a consumer to know that wholefood concentrates are loaded with vitamins, minerals, amino acids, phytonutrients and other elements that have a healing effect on your body. |

They have different flavors of the organic food Bar available, but I like the Active Greens because it combines healthy microalgae, spirulina, wheat grass juice and other wholefood concentrates into a format that's quite tasty. In fact, this is probably the best-tasting way to get these supergreens into your diet. If you've been struggling with getting supergreens into your body because of the taste, this is a great way to get it done. These bars taste absolutely delicious. |

To cut costs you can raise your own organic food or join an organic co-op if there is one in your city. Sometimes you can find some nearby organic farmers who sell directly to customers or there are farmer's markets that sell organic foods. Their produce tends to be less expensive than organic foods purchased at grocery stores. There are also places to buy organic foods that can be shipped directly to your home but they tend to be quite expensive. |

During the five days in which children ate an organic diet there was a "dramatic and immediate" drop in their levels of pesticides, going as low as zero during the organic food phase. Pesticide levels increased five- or sixfold—and in some cases substantially more—when children began to eat a nonorganic diet again.

The whole idea of the organic food movement—the "spirit" of the movement, if you will—was a desire to return to basics. It was fueled by a fervent wish to consume the healthy products of the small, sustainable farm where fruits and vegetables and cows and pigs and chickens and horses lived in an interdependent atmosphere of pastoral tranquility, where food—

| People who wanted organic food were voting both for their health and against a marketplace that was increasingly providing them with "food products" bearing less and less resemblance to anything that could once be considered real or whole food—stuff that grew out of the ground, fell from a tree, or was harvested from healthy animals grazing on pasture or wild fish from uncontaminat-ed waters. Buying organic represented a return to natural—and presumably healthier—foods.
At least that was the hope.
So yes, I buy organic whenever possible. |

But what does that really tell us? After all, you can now get some version of "organic" crispy choco-nutty cereal, and my local health food store is filled with "organic soda." More specifically, when it comes to meat and poultry, what does organic really mean? Clearly, from the above definition, it means the animals were given no antibiotics or growth hormones, and that's a great thing! But is it enough? |
| I buy organic food whenever possible, although my eyes are much more open to what that really means than they used to be (see "What about Organic?" on page 14). Fm glad that organic meat is now available and that when we buy it, we're not getting a nice additional dose of hormones, steroids, and antibiotics with our protein. But is that enough to guarantee a healthy product? I don't think so.
