Many hospitals turned to Response oncology, a company based in Memphis, Tennessee, that franchised bone marrow transplants. Hospitals hired Response oncology to teach teams of nurses and oncologists, in two-day sessions, how to administer high-dose chemo and perform a transplant. The company also advised hospitals on how to build new wings and then handled the insurance claims.
While hospital administrators wanted their share of the profits, oncologists wanted their share of the glory. |

More randomized, controlled clinical trials with specific tumor types are necessary to determine the place of mistletoe therapy in oncology. A concomitant rise in interleukin-1 and interleukin-6, tumor-necrosis factor-alpha, and gamma-interferon has also been reported (Staak et al, 1998; Meyer-Wegener, 1998; Weber et al, 1998; Joller, 1996; Stein & Berg, 1996; Hajto & Lanzrein, 1986; Hajto, 1986).

Furthermore, there appears to be an undesirable buildup of calcium inside tumor cells as well as in the blood circulation. As cell energy declines in tumor cells, the sodium/calcium pump, which normally maintains an alkaline balance of these minerals inside the cell, is weakened. Thus calcium begins to accumulate. [Novartis Found Symp 240: 169-81, 2001 ] Without sufficient energy, the calcium cannot be pumped out of the tumor cell.
Calcification is a common feature of tumor cells. |

Adriamycin
Adriamycin is an anti-cancer drug that can produce life-threatening side effects. Adriamycin (doxorubicin) is used to treat a wide variety of cancers of the blood, lymph system, bladder and breast. The heart tissue is vulnerable to toxicity from adriamycin, which can cause a profound decrease in blood pressure, a markedly increased heart rate, and a decrease in the volume of blood the heart pumps. This is often accompanied by fatigue and sometimes depression. This drug has also been shown to deplete cancer patients of vitamin C. |

Widely overlooked is that fact that the risk for breast cancer dramatically increases as females cease menstruation and thus lose their ability to control iron build up via blood loss. About 80 % of the iron in the body is found in red blood cells. The increased stores of iron in postmenopausal females are linked to an increased mortality from cancer. [International J Epidemiology. |
| Clinical oncology 13: 200-01, 2001] Many cases of cancer that arise during pregnancy, when sex hormone levels are highest, resolve with birth or the termination of pregnancy. For example, a 28-year-old woman in the third trimester of her pregnancy was found to have acute myelocytic leukemia. The baby was delivered early by Cesarean section and her leukemia disappeared for a short time, only to reappear as her hormone levels rose again. |

One probable cause of diminished working memory may be that chemotherapy significantly reduces vitamin Bl 2 absorption. [Z Gastroenterology 27: 606-10 1989] Impaired Bl 2 absorption is so prevalent following chemotherapy one wonders why doctors don't routinely prescribe supplemental Bl 2 after treatment. |

Associate Professor of oncology, Gynecology, and Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins, "If you haven't been exercising, try low-level exercise, such as walking or swimming."
The benefits of exercise are not limited to helping treatment-related fatigue, but they are actively contributing to curing cancer. Several groundbreaking studies attest to that. This hardly comes at a surprise since cancer cells are typically oxygen-deprived, and exercise is a direct way to deliver extra oxygen to cells throughout the body and to improve the immune response. |

By the time he left the Dana-Farber in 1992, to head the division of oncology at UCSF, Henderson had already gained a reputation as a critic. Many of his colleagues scorned him, calling him a naysayer and snubbing him at medical meetings. High-dose chemo had become a medical juggernaut, and nobody wanted to hear that it might not work.
But Peters himself knew that Henderson was right. He knew he had to subject high-dose chemo to the ultimate test, a randomized, controlled clinical trial. |

We are not talking about bias in an area of research which would "do no harm" if results were not reported honestly. oncology is the study of cancer. A less than objective study of new drugs would result in the deaths of many people, and this research team determined that the published oncology research is far from objective.
And even this study, which sought to determine how pharmaceutical money was influencing the conclusions found in the medical journals, had the following note concerning the study's funding. |

The cancer industry is among the most aggressive areas in the medical arena and the FDA will swoop in with automatic weapons into doctors' offices if they step out of line with acknowledged oncology protocols. Medical fascism is perhaps at its worst in the cancer area with oncologists insisting that poisoning patients with chemicals and radiation is the only and best way to go.
Minerals, not drugs, and certainly not radiation or chemicals, are essential for life and health and provide the keys for the prevention and cure of cancer. |

Aloe decreases surgical recovery time, according to a report in the Journal of Derm otologic Surgery and oncology. Eighteen acne patients underwent facial dermabrasion surgery, in which lesions are scraped away. Dressings were applied to their faces, with half of each person's face receiving the standard dressing coated with surgical gel, and the other half with aloe added to this dressing. The half of the face treated with aloe healed approximately seventy-two hours faster than the other side. Dermatologist James Fulton, M.D. |

As the popular discourse about the emotional trauma of receiving a diagnosis of cancer became increasingly frank, the culture of care within oncology itself also began to change. A 1961 survey of physicians in a particular region of the United States found that more than 90 percent of them usually did not reveal a cancer diagnosis to the patient. A 1979 survey of physicians working in the same geographical region found, in contrast, that 97 percent of physicians now did so. |

Oncology nurse Connie Kinney begins to recite the listed side effects of the drugs Mom is to get. "Complications include dizziness, bleeding, and death," she says.

My mother is feisty, like a boxer about to enter the ring against an opponent twice her size. "No thanks. Let's just get on with it."
My mother definitely did just that. |
