These results indicate that Tahitian noni juice may protect individuals from oxidative damage induced by tobacco smoke by (Wang, 2002). Cancer and cancer-related symptoms Wong reports two clinical cases of adenocarcinoma in which the ingestion of noni juice may have proved essential to the patient's long-term survival and concludes that Noni should be studied further for its potential use in adjuvant immunotherapy for cancer (Wong, 2004). Patients with advanced cancer took part in a phase I dose-finding study with capsules containing 500mg ripe Noni fruit extract.
General wellbeing In a statistical clinical survey of the results of more than 10,000 noni juice users, various efficacious medical properties were investigated. A total of 67% percent of 847 people with cancer experienced improvement of their symptoms; 91% of noni juice users noticed an increase in energy levels; 72% of overweight patients lost weight; and 87% of patients suffering from high blood pressure experienced a significant drop in blood pressure.

And what I found about noni juice was pretty darn impressive. Noni juice Traditionally Used as Medicine The official scientific name of the noni berry is the Morinda citrifolia fruit. Morinda is actually a genus of about eighty species, mostly of tropical origin. It's known by all kinds of names: hai ba ji in Chinese, Indian mulberry, noni (in Puerto Rico and Hawaii), nonu (in Samoa), nono (in Tahiti), even—probably because of its potential as an antiinflammatory—the painkiller tree (in the Caribbean).
If that turns out to be true, that would mean that authentic noni (and noni juice) could have an astonishing amount of cancer-fighting potential. At least two studies have been published demonstrating that an extract from the Morinda citrifolia fruit (noni) has been found to have an antiproliferative effect on tumor cells. One report in the Annals of the New York Academy of Science, titled "Cancer-preventive effect of Morinda citrifolia (noni)," compared the antioxidant activity of noni juice to vitamin C, grape seed powder, and pycnogenol, all very powerful antioxidants.
Nonetheless, there's enough solid science—not to mention a long history of folk tradition—to support the inclusion of noni juice on this list. Remember, the taste is off-putting—the best companies making this stuff make a pure juice that has to be diluted with water or taken in 1-ounce servings. * Pomegranate Juiee If nutrition were the movies, pomegranate juice would be what's considered by the tabloids to be a "rising star.

Solution? noni juice is on the list; the berries are not. Similarly with acai berries. Goji berries, on the other hand, are easy to find in health food stores and are loaded with nutrients. The juice is perfectly good as well, but way over-hyped (and overpriced); hence Goji berries yes, Goji juice, regrettably, no. Beverages That Deserve Their Own Entry The rest of the beverages presented no such "dual" personality problems. The only way to consume tea is to drink it; same with coffee.
So I was already set to dislike noni juice. And acai berries, and Goji berries, and all the other berries that have been promoted in the last few years, some of them honestly and carefully, some of them outrageously. But truth be told, marketing gimmicks and practices aside, many of these berries are amazing foods. Especially noni berries. I ignore the "science" that the companies write about in their brochures because many of the "studies" that they boast about are questionable, biased, unpublished, or, worst-case scenario, made up.
Does noni juice Prevent Wrinkles? One study found that constituents of the fruit inhibited the oxidation of LDL ("bad") cholesterol. (Remember that cholesterol only becomes a problem in the human body when it is oxidized.) Another study, in the Journal of Medicinal Food, found that a compound in the noni fruit stimulated the synthesis of collagen. The authors stated that this compound—an anthraquinone—was a good candidate as a new antiwrinkle agent. And antiinflammatory compounds have been isolated from the root of another member of the genus, the Morinda officinalis.

In addition to helping suppress food cravings, noni juice and Berry Young Juice are also therapeutic remedies for a number of physical complaints. Give them a try and see what works best for you. Tahitian Noni is the only brand I recommend because of its quality standards (see Resources). While Berry Young Juice is only available from the Young Living company (see Resources). It's primary ingredient is wolfberry, one of the world's most powerful antioxidants. Green food supplements, when taken regularly, will also help stave off cravings by contributing to your overall nourishment.

Noni juice aids in relieving symptoms of hay fever. Recommendations Q The best defense against hay fever is to try to avoid the substance that is causing your allergies. Following are some tips to help you avoid contact with pollen: • When allergy season arrives, spend as little time as possible outdoors, particularly after 10:00 a.m. Grasses generally pollinate in midday and the wind keeps the pollen floating until it drops to the ground at night. • Try to avoid working in the yard. If you must do so, wear a mask and goggles to keep the pollen from getting into your eyes.

The usual recommendation is 4 ounces (120 ml) of noni juice 30 minutes before breakfast (effectiveness is thought to be best on an empty stomach). Commercial products are now available that have either eliminated the odor, altered the taste, or made it available as an extract in tablets or capsules to increase palatability. For liquid concentrates the typical recommendation is 2 tablespoons (30 ml) per day. For powdered extracts the typical recommendation is 500 to 1,000 mg daily. Are there any side effects or interactions?
In the early 1990s, noni juice became heavily marketed in the United States primarily through network marketing companies. However, despite tremendous claims and testimonials, there is little scientific documentation on noni. Active constituents The major constituents in noni appear to be polysaccharides and a compound known as damna-canthal.1' 2' 3 The developer of a commercial noni product claims the alkaloid xeronine is an important constituent, but there has been no confirmation by independent researchers.

Holistic approaches that may be helpful The immune system is suppressed during times of stress. Chronic mental and emotional stress can reduce immune function, but whether this effect is sufficient to increase the risk of infection (page 265) or cancer (page 87) is less clear.

For those of you who want more convenience, as I mentioned in last month's newsletter, you can enjoy mangosteen juice, goji juice, or noni juice. Although these juices are in many cases reconstituted or come from concentrate and are pasteurized, they are still packed with incredible amounts of vitamins, minerals, and cofactors and are very effective ways of handling your nutritional deficiencies. The next-best way to handle nutritional deficiencies is by taking a whole-food supplement.
There are companies that sell bottled mangosteen juice, gogi juice, and noni juice. In most cases, unfortunately, these juices have been pasteurized, which means they have been heated and many of the enzymes have been destroyed. However, the benefits of drinking these juices outweigh the fact that they have been pasteurized. Drinking these juices seems to help detoxify the body of toxins, as well as supply super nutrition directly into the cells. There are many other things that seem to be occurring when a person drinks these three juices.

After seven days on noni juice this acidic [sic] fluid cleared up completely." Dr. Harrison concludes, "she and the first case I mentioned were terminally ill cancer patients who no one anticipated would make it, but they are alive today because of noni." If true, this is no small news. The complete remission of lung metastases or ascites within a period of one to two weeks is the medical equivalent of a UFO landing on the front lawn. I had to learn more. Since there was no address, city or phone number listed for Dr.
All experiments point to the conclusion that noni juice "...seems to act indirectly by enhancing host immune system involving macrophages and/or lymphocytes' (183). This is encouraging, even exciting. But several caveats need to be emphatically stated. First, most of these studies were conducted with alcohol extracts of noni, not plain juice. Additionally, the compound was injected into the peritoneal cavities of the animals, whereas humans take this as a drink. The dosage was many times what human patients would take.
Her group reported that when they injected a relatively large amount (750 mg/kg) of noni juice into animals with cancer every other day, the mean survival time was 33.5 days. This was compared to just 14.8 days in the controls. While there were no survivors out of 23 control mice, 9 out of 22 treated animals were still alive at the end of the experiment. They also reported that the juice was not cytotoxic to cancerous or normal cells, even at high concentration. This indicates a host-mediated effect.
According to another scientist, "If one is dying and all other remedies have failed, then and only then will the average person drink noni juice. The flavor of juice made from ripe Hawaiian noni is terrible. None of my colleagues would touch the untreated juice...." But a Utah company called Morinda, Inc. was up to the challenge. It mixed noni with water and blueberry and grape juice concentrates and the stuff is now selling briskly through a network marketing pyramid. I have tasted it and found the mixture similar to prune juice.

After this manic episode had persisted for five months several of his friends decided he should give noni juice a try. (See under ALTERNATIVES.) After the first day of drinking fruit juice with a cup of Noni added to it he finally began to sleep at night. Within two weeks of using a cup of Noni per day he was normal again with absolutely no remaining manic symptoms. It was like a miracle. It seemed as if we were watching someone wake up from a long sleep as he, in horror and embarrassment, began asking what he had been doing over the last several months.

I listened to one of these sessions and heard a cancer patient state that he stopped getting chemotherapy-associated infections when he took noni juice for just a few days. Another cancer patient declared that he felt remarkably better. Let's hope these people are not deceiving themselves. IN W IN 1 J U 1 C Noni is mainly sold by Morinda, Inc., a multi-level marketing company in Utah. They claimed sales of $1.5 million in October, 1996 and anticipated monthly sales of $2.5 million by the end of that year. "Do you have a problem with that?" a company spokesperson asked me, aggressively.
