Best Skin Care Company" award by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, following the natural products Expo West 2007 trade show in Anaheim, California. Here, the Health Ranger offers a brief review of the company and product line:
Pangea is flat-out one of the most eco-conscious personal care product companies I've ever had the pleasure of learning about. Headed by Joshua Onysko, Pangea goes way beyond the norm in creating eco-conscious, fair trade, health-friendly soaps and personal care products ranging from soap and shower products to skin cleansers, toners and creams. |

REPPED: Nature's Path has been awarded the "Best Natural Cereal Company" by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, following the natural products Expo West 2007 trade show in Anaheim, California. What follows is a brief review of the company:
Over many years, this natural product cereal company has proven itself an outstanding formulator of truly healthy, innovative cereals and food products. This year, they introduced a new product called Smart Bran with Psyllium and Oatbran that is simply remarkable: it offers great texture, a pleasing taste, low effective carbohydrates and whole-grain nutrition. |

The level of deception in the natural products industry has never been higher. Everybody, it seems, is claiming "all natural" or "organic" even when they're not, and thanks to corporate influence in Washington, the regulations are watered down so much that the terms have practically lost all meaning. Folks like David Bronner at Dr. Bronner's soaps (www.DrBronner.com) have been fighting hard to eliminate fraudulent organic claims from the marketplace, but it's an ongoing battle. |
| It really is a must-see event for anyone in the industry, and the crowds were even thicker this year, meaning there's an increase in public interest in natural products. So kudos to the New Hope folks who put this together. It's no small feat to make the show work.
And now for the rest of the story...
Ahh, the fragrant smell of... cigarettes?
You would think that a hall full of 45,000 people buying and selling natural health products wouldn't smell like an ash try right outside the front door, but you'd be wrong. |

Best New Protein Supplement" award from Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, following the natural products Expo West 2007 trade show in Anaheim, California. In this review, the Health Ranger offers a brief review of the Jay Robb company, its founder and product line:
Finding a good protein supplement is more difficult than you might think. First there's the choice of sweetener. Most of the popular protein products on the market are sweetened with refined sugars (obesity, anyone?), chemical sweeteners (toxicity) or sugar alcohols (diarrhea). But Jay Robb's protein products have no such sweeteners. |

REPPED: The natural products Expo West trade show was held last weekend in Anaheim, California. I spent the show cruising the floor, interviewing vendors, sampling products and digging up new information to pass along to NewsTarget readers. (By the way, thanks to all the people who said hi to me at the show! It was nice to meet some NewsTarget readers in person.)
If you read the mainstream media, everybody's happy, happy, happy about the show and the industry as a whole, but if you go there yourself and ask questions as an independent, skeptical journalist, you get the rest of the story. |

What have you found to be true in your investigations of other so-called natural products in the marketplace?
Minka: My name is Minka Robinson and I am from Santa Barbara. I am the co-founder of Golden Path Alchemy. One of the reasons we started our company and why we started the lines is because we were so disillusioned with the natural products that were on the market.
It seems like you go to Whole Foods or Wild Oats and there are all these natural products, quite an abundance, especially of facial products. |

For one thing, most supplements are derived from natural products, and natural products cannot be patented. Therefore, drug companies are not interested in investing the hundreds of millions of dollars in clinical testing necessary for approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because they can never recoup their investment. The new law declared supplements to be dietary products and therefore not subject to the rigorous and expensive testing required by the FDA for new drugs. |

Natural products can be very potent indeed, and some natural products are turning out to have a surprisingly profound effect in helping to quell an overenthusiastic autoimmune response. Supplements and vitamins that are currently being studied in autoimmune disease research include:
ANTIOXIDANTS. In the normal process of metabolism, cells produce unstable oxygen molecules. These unstable molecules—known as free radicals—damage cells. Exposure to pollutants can increase free radicals, as can smoking and the use of cooking oils that become overheated. |

It seems like you go to Whole Foods or Wild Oats and there are all these natural products, quite an abundance, especially of facial products. You get it home, you are reading the ingredients, and there are all these parabens and chemical preservatives. It seems like almost half of the ingredients are not natural. It seems so wrong to call your products natural just because you use a few botanical ingredients. |

It needs to be repeated, just as with over-the-counter and prescription drugs, you need to remember that natural products are not always safe. This runs counter to the commonly held and faithfully perpetuated belief that supplements have no side effects and don't negatively interact with prescription drugs or with each other. This claim should be recognized on the surface as obviously false. Anything you put in your body is going to interact with your existing chemistry. If that were not true, then how could you take a supplement and expect results? |

The reason for this discrepancy is that there is no regulatory body that oversees the production or standardization of manufacturing so-called natural products. This means that there is great variation among the many over-the-counter progesterone creams on the market today.
I stumbled onto the discrepancy ten years ago when I first began treating patients. |

However, there is also a deluge of supplements and herbal or natural substances that have been cleverly packaged and marketed by unscrupulous profiteers who seek to exploit people's demand for natural products. Yet many of these miracle supplements are marketing creations with absolutely no proof of benefit. In some cases they can be harmful to your health. A product marketed as natural does not mean it is safe.
Beyond the extensive research compiled to bring you this information, I have also consulted with and interviewed two of the top professionals in the health and fitness industry. |

| As with most natural products such as these, little research has been done on adverse side effects, dosage requirements, restrictions or interactions. Again, buyer beware.
The Active Ingredient
There is another reason that natural does not mean safe. It has to do with knowing all the ingredients inside the pill you are thinking about taking. One of the most common examples is Ephedra. In 1999, 37-year-old Anne Marie Capati suffered a fatal stroke while working out at her gym after her trainer recommended using supplements containing Ephedra to help get fast results. |

When I opened my first Natural Medicine Store, I stocked the shelves with natural products from a variety of manufacturers. It was not long before the difference in my patients' and customers' responses signaled to me that not all product manufacturers could be trusted. According to a recent survey of nearly 1,000 supplements conducted by ConsumerLab.com, a product-certification company, one out of four supplements has quality problems, such as contamination or a failure to include an ingredient listed on the label. |

Black cohosh is one of the most effective natural products for menopause. It helps reduce and even stop hot flushes and other discomforts during a woman's hormonal changes. There were some anecdotal cases where the use of Black Cohosh was linked with liver problems, but the real cause was not clear. To avoid complications, it is important to discontinue taking hormone replacements while taking Black Cohosh, or best wait at least two months before starting the Black Cohosh regimen. |

Together with the FDA, they've turned the United States into a health wasteland, where consumers are forced to pay profiteering prices for synthetic chemicals that only harm their health while being denied access to the natural products that could actually save their lives.
Conclusion
While there are probably hundreds of additional ideas that would also improve the health of the U.S. population, the thirteen ideas presented here would, if enforced, probably drop cancer rates by 75% in one generation. |
