Aurora Organic Dairy Corporation hit by class action lawsuits over "organic" milk labels

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

I see these events as a large, powerful corporation attempting to steamroll small consumer protection organizations that are reporting the truth about Aurora's milk products. As such, I fully support the boycott of organic milk products made by Aurora, and I urge all NewsTarget readers to send financial support to the OCA so that it may have the means to defend itself against Aurora's legal onslaught.

The Big Fat Health and Fitness Lie

Craig Pepin-Donat

Even with common vitamins where positive empirical evidence exists, proper dosage is impossible to gauge because of the food industry fortification program where vitamins and minerals are added to processed foods like cereals, milk products and thousands of other non-organic foodstuffs. You never really know how much of a vitamin or supplement you are getting. Even if you could figure it out, there are many chemicals within our food supply, coupled with toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis, that can prevent the absorption of the essential nutrients we need.

Choose fat-free (skim) or low-fat (1 percent) milk and milk products to reduce your intake of saturated fat, total fat, cholesterol, and calories and increase your calcium. ?Read Nutrition Facts label on margarines and salad dressings to choose those lowest in saturated fat. Some margarines are now trans-fat free. ?Choose whole grain foods for most grain servings to get added nutrients, such as minerals and fiber. For example, choose whole wheat bread or whole grain cereals. ?

For years, the dairy industry has been telling us that milk, milk products, yogurt, and cheese will prevent osteoporosis (brittle bone disease), yet the countries that consume the most milk and milk products have the most osteoporosis cases and the countries that consume the least dairy have the least brittle bone disease. One of the most powerful things about the Internet is that it makes it so easy to check out research. Genuine research will indicate who funded it and usually you have to pay to download the research in full.

During the cleansing period, it is preferable to completely stop eating sugar, all milk products, and all refined white flour products, such as pastas, breads, and baked goods. You should also reduce your intake of eggs, meat, chicken, most fish, nuts, seeds, and unsprouted beans and grains. Fiber acts like a sponge, absorbing water as it goes through the stomach and the small intestine and arriving in the colon full of moisture. Diets low in fiber cause fecal material to become dry and hard to expel, whereas a diet high in fiber will greatly reduce transit time.

Vitamin B-12 is found in sardines, herring, milk products, eggs, organ meats, and beef. Biotin Biotin is a lesser-known vitamin of the B family and is also known as vitamin H. This vitamin prevents skin problems, facilitates metabolism of amino acids and carbohydrates, and promotes the health of nerve cells. Biotin deficiencies may result in loss of appetite, anemia, and skin disorders. If the pet is on antibiotic or sulfa drugs, they may also develop a biotin deficiency. Biotin is found in brown rice, butter, tuna, eggs, chicken, cheese, liver, lentils, milk, and oats.

Milk and milk products (and soy products) are often fortified with vitamin D (check the labels to be sure), but you can also find it in eggs and some seafood, like cod, shrimp, and chinook salmon. And don't forget good old-fashioned sun exposure. While experts say that in just 10 minutes you can soak up as much as 5,000 IU of vitamin D if you expose 40 percent of your body to the sun without sunscreen, given the link between skin cancer and sun exposure, you may be better off sticking to that glass of milk.
In response to that need, many milk products are fortified with vitamin D, and now some yogurt manufacturers are joining in. Vitamin D has a long-standing reputation as the vitamin that helps the body absorb calcium and build healthy bones, but recent research has revealed that it may play a role in all sorts of health-boosting functions, from reducing the risk of certain cancers to lowering blood pressure. "Activated vitamin D is one of the most potent inhibitors of cancer cell growth," says Michael F.

Dietary recommendations include eliminating of foods containing gluten or milk products. Studies have shown that high percentages of people with moderate to severe celiac disease are deficient in digestive enzymes because of damage to the lining of the small intestine (G. M. Gray, "Disaccharidases of the Small Intestine in Selected Diseases," in D. D. Katz (ed.), Human Health and Disease, (Bethesda, MD: FASEB 1980): 124.). Therefore, a high potency digestive enzyme supplement can be very beneficial.

He was told to discontinue all dairy and milk products. Regular use of dairy and milk products can be associated with psychosis and depression. On December 13, 2004, the patient returned for a follow-up. He reported an increased sense of alertness and vigor from the treatments. He also described symptoms of social anxiety where he would feel scared to talk to people and would even avoid teachers and classmates while completing his auto mechanic program. He did have some depression since the last visit, and experienced suicidal ideation on three separate occasions since the initial visit.

As for milk and milk products, they have been clearly implicated in the development of heart disease, strokes, hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis, and prostate cancer. And their labeling can be very misleading indeed. Are you under the impression that milk labeled "2%" delivers only 2 percent of its calories from fat (as compared with whole milk, which delivers 55 percent of its calories from fat)? Wrong. In fact, 35 percent of the calories from "2%" milk are from fat. Similarly, 21 percent of the calories in "i%" milk are from fat.
US DA recommendation: "When selecting and preparing meat, poultry, dry beans, and milk or milk products, make choices that are lean, low-fat, or fat-free." This is largely obfuscation—confusing and misleading for the vast majority of people who are unfamiliar with the science. There are no fat-free meats. Some meat is merely less fat than other meat—and thus slightly less toxic. The same is true of poultry. And that's just the start of the problem. Mass-produced poultry is so contaminated with bacteria that poultry inspectors, intimately acquainted with its condition, rarely consume it.
USDA Recommendation: "Consume three cups per day of fat-free or low-fat milk or equivalent milk products." Even low-fat milk contains significant amounts of saturated fat, which will clog arteries. In addition, fully 50 million Americans are lactose intolerant. For them, ingesting milk causes gastrointestinal upsets. Milk consumption has also been linked to the development of prostate cancer. Casein, the major protein in milk, has been shown in animal studies to powerfully promote cancer growth.5 3.

In this disorder, your bowel lacks enough of the chemicals that break down the sugar lactose, which is found in milk products. A test will allow your doctor to diagnose this insufficiency. Incidentally, many people have experienced an isolated episode of food-related IBS after eating several hand-fuls of sugar-free candy quickly. Aspartame, the chemical with the brand name NutraSweet that is found in many candies and sodas, is non-nutritional and is not absorbed into your body.

What's best? Soy milk, cow's milk, raw milk and fermented milk (kefir)

Mike's Milk Matrix Okay, here's the low down on milk products and milk alternatives as I see it: Soy milk: Not recommended. Too many GMO soybeans, bad environmental impact and some possible undesirable estrogen effects. The isoflavones are good for preventing cancer, however. Processed cow's milk: It's just gross. Homogenized, pasteurized, milked from unhealthy cows and containing alarmingly high levels of pus, this liquid is nothing less than frightening. Flee it. Raw cow's milk (organic): This is an acceptable dairy beverage.

Kinesiology muscle testing revealed that Tim was highly allergic to milk or milk products. His parents confirmed that by the age of five months he was no longer breastfed but was instead given infant milk formula. Tim's asthma was caused by his body's inability to break down the protein of cow's milk. The fragments of undigested protein caused a strong immune response aggravating the entire mucus lining from the anus to the lungs. His condition was chronic because he consumed large quantities of animal protein, including milk and dairy products throughout his young life.

As such, I fully support the boycott of organic milk products made by Aurora, and I urge all NewsTarget readers to send financial support to the OCA so that it may have the means to defend itself against Aurora's legal onslaught. It's also worth mentioning that I don't support the consumption of processed dairy products at all (raw milk is a different story), and it is my opinion that homogenized, pasteurized dairy products directly promote heart disease, obesity, diabetes, autoimmune disorders and many other health problems in humans.
I personally consume no processed dairy products (organic or otherwise), and I encourage consumers to switch to raw almond milk as a healthy alternative to milk products acquired from cows. Still, for consumers who are buying a product labeled as "organic," I agree that such products should be honestly labeled, and if the USDA refuses to enforce commonsense organic requirements, then it is up to consumers to be the ultimate judge of a corporation's actions and to punish those corporations that dishonestly label their products.

For CFS patients with candidiasis, all types of sugar, including milk products and fruit, should be avoided, as should caffeine, alcohol, and refined carbohydrates such as white flour and white rice. Caffeine depresses the adrenal glands, which secrete the hormones needed for energy. Also avoid refined sugar, which may cause hypoglycemia and induce fatigue. Supplements: Probiotics can greatly improve digestion and reestablish a healthy balance in the intestines. A typical dose is one to two capsules two to three times per day, taken on an empty stomach.
Unlike the popular belief, milk and milk products are not the best sources of calcium. This is largely due to intolerances to lactose and casein, which can lead to problems with absorption. Unsweetened yogurt is the exception. Supplements: Calcium has been shown to be effective in helping to build bone mass. For optimum nutrition, the recommended calcium intake is between 1,000-1,500 mg per day, depending on your age, dietary intake, and other health conditions. Use the forms that most easily absorbed by the body, such as calcium citrate, malate, chelate, or hydroxyappatite.
If you have candidiasis avoid all types of sugar, including milk products and fruit, caffeine, alcohol, and refined carbohydrates such as white flour and white rice. After the cleansing diet, the excluded foods can be reintroduced into the diet systematically. Note any changes in your symptoms to identify any potential irritants. Eat two to four servings of leafy green vegetables a day. These foods are high in magnesium and other nutrients important for overall health. Blood sugar imbalance may cause or contribute to fatigue.
Carrageenan is used to stabilize proteins and is mostly found in chocolate milk and milk products such as ice cream and cottage cheese. Although this has not been studied in humans, the foods that contain carrageenan should be avoided due to their allergenic properties and potential for intestinal irritation in patients with colitis. A rotation diet in which a different food is eaten every three to four days may be helpful in reducing symptoms. Eat plenty of fiber-rich whole foods such as gluten-free whole grains (for example, spelt or rice) and fresh fruit and vegetables.

I know of a young mother who was unable to digest milk products. One week, when her new son was five weeks old, she ate a piece of cheese pizza and an ice-cream cone. By the end of that week, her son, who was breastfeeding, began bleeding with each bowel movement. When she went to the hospital she was told to stop breastfeeding and to put her baby on formula, and if the problem did not correct itself, they would have to operate on the child to determine where the blood was coming from.
