Vitamin B2
Principal use: For the prevention and reduction of migraine headaches.
What else you should know: Although vitamin B2 (riboflavin) does not have a consistent link to mood problems, it is essential for normal brain chemistry. Low levels of vitamin B2 increase susceptibility to migraine headaches, and, as you might expect, vitamin B2 has been found helpful in reducing the frequency of migraine headaches.
Dosage: To prevent migraine headaches, take 400 mg daily, along with a B-complex supplement. |

Hormonal changes may play a role in headaches, especially in perimenopause and especially in women with migraine headaches. migraine headaches tend to be worse on one side of the head and worse with light and noise, can be associated with nausea and vomiting, and tend to be moderate to severe. The hormonal changes associated with the menopause transition can increase the frequency and intensity of headaches, especially for those women who have a history of menstrual-related headaches. |

Example: A drug approved for migraine headaches can be legally prescribed for heart disease, even if it hasn't undergone a single clinical trial for heart disease. So much for the grand claims of "evidence-based medicine."
Pharmaceutical medicine, as practiced today, is a grand medical hoax involving the mainstream media, the FDA, drug companies, medical journals, medical schools and even M.D.s. They've all quietly agreed to do whatever it takes to maximize profits at the expense of public health, regardless of the science or the ethics involved. |

Consuming it causes migraine headaches, endocrine system damage, loss of appetite regulation (leading to obesity), neurological damage in fetuses (when consumed by expectant mothers) and many other problems. This is well known throughout the industry. Baby food manufacturers, for example, voluntarily removed MSG from their products decades ago following a public outcry about the dangers of MSG to babies and infants. |

MSG is a dangerous excitotoxin linked to neurological disorders such as migraine headaches, Alzheimer's disease, loss of appetite control, obesity and many other serious health conditions. Manufacturers use MSG to add flavor to dead-tasting processed meat products.
Essentially, dead meat products look and taste dead (because they are), so meat companies use the following three ingredients to make them look fresh and taste interesting:
Sodium nitrite makes the meat look red and fresh. (But it promotes cancer.)
MSG makes the meat taste savory. (But it causes neurological disorders. |

During times of more stable estrogen levels, such as during pregnancy, or once menopause has been reached, most women will experience a resolution of their headache patterns, especially migraine headaches.
Skin, Eye, and Dental Changes. We already talked about how hormone changes can be related to acne. Specifically, acne can be the effect of excess testosterone on the glandular secretions in the skin. Estrogen also has important functions in the skin. It determines the skin collagen, skin thickness, and texture. |

At the beginning of the ad, the actors' lives appear to be in total disarray while they're suffering from some symptom (such as migraine headaches, restless legs, high cholesterol or whatever). Then, after getting on the drug, the actor's life is magically transformed into a state of perfection: They're happy, everything is cheery, life is glorious, all their personal relationships are suddenly successful, and so on.
Of course, the narration never directly says these drugs will transform your life and make you a happy, youthful, organized and successful person. |

One of the most recent indications for riboflavin is in the prevention of migraine headaches.
Riboflavin improves energy metabolism within most cells of the body through its ability to optimize the functioning of cellular components called mitochondria. Several randomized controlled clinical trials have shown that 400 mg per day of riboflavin is effective at reducing the frequency and pain of migraine headaches in as little as 3 months.
Other Conditions: Riboflavin is helpful in preventing cataracts in elderly patients if the treatment is started very early. |

One of the leading theories of migraine headaches is that there is some degree of mitochondrial dysfunction. This leads to impaired energy metabolism, and causes biochemical shifts that activate the trigeminovascular system, resulting in migraine attacks.

So, for example, if you're addressing migraine headaches, you might say something like, "Even though I have this blinding headache, I deeply and completely accept myself." (It doesn't seem to matter whether you believe the affirmation or not. What's important is that you say it anyway.) You repeat the statement, tuning in to "the problem" while tapping the meridians. It's that simple.
The idea is that thinking about the problem while doing the tapping—what Mercola calls "tuning in"—will bring about the very energy disruptions involved in the problem. |
| A number of well-done studies have suggested that feverfew may prevent migraine headaches. In studies, feverfew users seem to have milder headaches, fewer headaches, and less vomiting and nausea (though the herb doesn't necessarily shorten the length of time each headache lasts). Using feverfew together with another herb, white willow bark, also reduces the frequency, intensity, and duration of migraine attacks, by up to 60 percent.

People with a history of liver disease or abnormal liver function, diabetes, peptic ulcers, gout, cardiac arrhythmias, inflammatory bowel disease, migraine headaches, or alcoholism are more susceptible to the adverse effects of excessive nicotinic acid intake. Doses of 3000 mg or more per day are potentially dangerous therapies and must be supervised.

One study of migraine headaches found that placebo injections worked significantly better than placebo pills.4
Consider placebo surgery. In chapter 3, we reviewed two dramatic examples—ligation of the mammary artery and arthroscopic surgery. In both cases, fake surgery (cut the skin, but do not alter what's underneath) worked just as well as the real procedure. There are many other examples of successful sham surgery. |

For example, if information sent from the heart to the brain is not being processed properly by the brain, then the flow in the feedback loop slows and energy levels within the brain rise, which correlates to an increase in migraine headaches. As the heart tries repeatedly to get this information to the brain but can't, the information/ energy overload in the brain spills over and affects the sensory nerves in the brain, which may account for a migraine headache-sufferer's heightened sensitivity to light and sound. |

As my program progressed, the numerous so-called benign skin tags I had had for years fell off. My migraine headaches vanished. I could go on and on about the benefits.
What happened next is still a blur. I resigned my position at Loma Linda University and moved to Palm Springs to establish The International Heart and Lung Institute, and within it, The Center for Restorative Medicine. I began to offer my Diet Evolution program to patients I had operated on, in the hope that it would enable them to avoid a second operation. |
| I was also hypertensive and insulin resistant, and I suffered from migraine headaches and arthritis. Even though I ran twenty miles a week, visited the gym daily, ate "healthy," and always had a Diet Coke in my hand, I was still obese. Until I discovered how to communicate with my genes, I couldn't seem to deal with the extra weight, high cholesterol, arthritis, and tendency to diabetes-the very same health issues many of you are facing. |

Migraine and Tension-type Headaches: A systematic review of previous research and published anecdotal reports has demonstrated that intravenous and oral supplementation of niacin is effective at aborting acute migraine headaches and alleviating tension headaches. It is probably an effective prophylactic agent for the prevention of migraine headaches as well. When taken intravenously or orally, niacin causes cutaneous flushing that might abort the acute symptoms of migraine by vasodilating the intracranial vessels, thus preventing the subsequent vasoconstriction of the extracranial vessels. |

Trials show that these medications are more effective than a placebo, but they are not specific for migraine headaches. A more appropriate first-line migraine treatment is a class of drugs called triptans. Sumatriptan and naratriptan are in this category. Ergotamines can also be used to treat severe headaches, unless the patient has a history of coronary artery disease. Sometimes anti-emetic drugs are added to treat the nausea and vomiting that can accompany a migraine. |

Some people may develop migraine headaches, and others suffer from sleep deprivation, anxiety, and even depression. Over long periods of time, Cortisol can cause cells in the brain to shrink, and under very dire circumstances, it can actually cause some cells to die.
Alzheimer's disease, the most common cause of dementia in those aged sixty-five or older, is characterized by a progressive decline in cognition and memory. Evidence suggests that increased levels of stress, along with high levels of Cortisol and inflammatory processes, may play a significant role in causing this illness. |
