The DEP sent a specialist to Bridges' home who found that the mercury from one broken CFL created mercury levels in the child's bedroom that were greater than six times the state's "safe" level for mercury contamination. The specialist advised Bridges to engage an environmental cleanup firm; the firm gave her an estimate of $2,000 to clean up the broken CFL.
The child's bedroom has been sealed off while Bridges attempts to raise the money for cleanup. According to media reports, Bridges' homeowner's insurance refuses to cover the cleanup because mercury is a known hazardous material. |

This is mercury brought into your home, and if you break a fluorescent light in your home, you are releasing a powerful neurotoxic heavy metal in your home! Birth defects, neurodegenerative diseases, developmental disorders, dementia... these have all been linked to mercury exposure. It's not even debated in the scientific literature. Even doctors readily admit that mercury is extremely toxic to the human body. |

There's so much mercury currently being put into the mouths of humans that the total volume of mercury being dumped into the environment from mercury fillings is nearly equal to that emitted by coal plants.
In fact, the mouth of the average consumer is so toxic that ocean creatures should be warning each other about eating humans. To consume a human being, to put it bluntly, would be extremely unhealthy for any animal. Humans carry the highest concentration of toxic chemicals of all creatures on the planet. |
| We're still chewing on mercury, for crying out loud. How stupid is that?

P.S. Did you know you can protect yourself from mercury using nutritional supplements and superfoods? Taking chlorella and spirulina helps remove mercury and other heavy metals. Drinking cilantro in a smoothie also does the trick. Uber-nutritionist Jon Barron has a product called Metal Magic that combines these two ingredients. Check out www.BaselineNutritionals.com

Because no one told them about the mercury, that's why! Of the hundreds of consumers I've talked to about this issue, very few (less than 4%) were aware of the mercury in fluorescent light bulbs. Sure, it's printed in microscopic text on the packaging of CFLs, but nobody reads that.
So most consumers keep on buying mercury light bulbs and bringing them right into their homes and communities, oblivious to the extremely hazardous materials found inside each light. I launched www.EcoLEDs.com because I wanted to provide an eco-friendly alternative to toxic CFLs and wasteful incandescent lights. |

(Dentists, of course, remain in bewildering denial and continue to place mercury fillings into the mouths of children, seemingly oblivious to the neurotoxicity of this extremely dangerous heavy metal...)
There's enough mercury in a single fluorescent light bulb to contaminate 7,000 gallons of fresh water. |

It only takes 4mg of mercury to contaminate up to 7,000 gallons of freshwater, meaning that the 30,000 pounds of mercury thrown away in compact fluorescent light bulbs each year is enough to pollute nearly every lake, pond, river and stream in North America (not to mention the oceans).
Controlling the waste
Many state governing agencies have adopted their own regulations regarding the disposal of fluorescent lights. In California, Minnesota, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin, it is unlawful for anyone to dispose of fluorescent bulbs as universal waste. |

Celebrities, political candidates and retailers including Wal-Mart continue to promote CFLs as an economical and "green" alternative to other types of lighting. Even the EnergyStar division of the Environmental Protection Agency -- while admitting on its website that CFLs contain mercury -- stops short of calling a broken CFL "hazardous. |

Problematic" behavior in children needs to be treated with diet, not drugs.
The mercury content of fish can be largely nullified by taking chlorella (a superfood supplement) or eating cilantro (a common culinary herb) during the meal that fish is consumed.
Mercury is found in fish because industrialized nations continue to pollute the environment with mercury from dental fillings ("silver" fillings) and coal-fired power plants. mercury fillings introduce over 300 metric tons of mercury into the environment each year.

Ban aspartame, water fluoridation and mercury fillings
You probably know the stories on aspartame, fluoride and mercury fillings by now. These are known toxic substances that are not only toxic to the humans who consume them but also to the environment. mercury fillings, for example, currently release 34 metric tons of toxic mercury into the environment each year. That's about as much as all the coal plants in a sizeable nation, yet the EPA pretends mercury fillings have no environmental impact whatsoever.
Aspartame, too, is a known toxic substance that's well documented as a neurotoxin. |

The mercury from this vapor quickly travels to the kidneys, liver, intestines, heart, brain and other organs. The science is irrefutable, but most dentists aren't interested in real science, it turns out. They just want to be able to continue using mercury fillings based on the ADA-accepted consensus lie that mercury is somehow inert and never leaves fillings.

Fluorescent lights are filled with a gas containing low-pressure mercury vapor and argon, or sometimes even krypton. The inner surface of the bulb is coated with a fluorescent coating made of varying blends of metallic and rare earth phosphor salts. Fluorescent light bulbs are more energy efficient than incandescent light bulbs of an equivalent brightness, and the efficiency of fluorescent lighting owes much to low-pressure mercury photon discharges. |

I anticipate that over the next several years we will hear more and more about mercury toxicity and how it too can cause significant damage to the brain. I would encourage everyone, but especially those with children, to avoid getting mercury amalgam fillings in their teeth. If you ask your dentist about possible alternatives to these mercury amalgams, he does have much safer options. (Don't run out and have all of your mercury fillings removed, though. If it is not done properly, it may cause more harm than if you just leave them alone. |

Those same dentists -- all of whom should have their dental licenses revoked, by the way -- continue to place mercury into the mouths of children through the use of "silver fillings" (which, in reality, contain more mercury than silver), inducing a lifetime of mercury poisoning.
By any honest measure of psychological health, these doctors, dentists and health authorities who promote mandatory vaccinations, water supply fluoridation and mercury fillings are nothing less than clinically insane. By any honest legal measure, they might be considered criminally negligent for their actions. |

One of the most eco-friendly options is LED light bulbs which are not only mercury free, they're also 300% more energy efficient than fluorescent lights (and about 1000% more efficient than incandescent lights).
Unlike incandescent light bulbs, which light up regardless of the electrical polarity, LEDs will only light with positive electrical polarity. LEDs produce more light per watt than do incandescent bulbs, and have an extremely long life span (usually about 50,000 hours). |
| A researcher at the University of Illinois at Springfield sums up the basic point behind these fluorescent bulbs: "People need to understand that these bulbs are considered "hazardous" and can cause long term damage to not only the environment, but if broken can cause health problems with people as well. mercury has the ability to cause humans, as well as animals, serious health problems such as permanent nerve and kidney damage if exposed. |
| LED lights contain absolutely no mercury or toxic chemicals, and conventional LEDs are made from a variety of inorganic semiconductor materials. They don't generate RF wavelengths that cause radio interference, or emit ultraviolet (UV) light -- so LEDs will not readily attract bugs and other insects.
For these reasons (very high energy efficient and the absence of toxic materials), I launched www.EcoLEDs.com in 2007, a company that now offers over a dozen LED light bulbs for consumer use, ranging in power from 3 watts to 10 watts (equivalent to a 100-watt incandescent light). |

In June 2006, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) warned residents against using herbal products made in China, specifically those containing high levels of lead and mercury. Sounds reasonable, but while the Institute of Medicine's Food and Nutrition Board recommends avoiding food with more than 2 parts per million (ppm) of lead and 1 ppm of mercury, there are no federal standards about lead and mercury content in supplements.26 Again, there are no federal standards about lead and mercury content in supplements. This is absolute insanity. |
