The raw (and ugly) truth about the war on drugs

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

Non-patentable drugs are usually outlawed That's why medical marijuana is illegal: because government doesn't control its distribution, nor does government receive a financial cut. You can bet your life that if Big Pharma owned the patents on medical marijuana and could set monopolistic prices on it, pot would be perfectly legal to own and smoke. That is, as long as you got it from a pharmacy where prices and distribution could be controlled. Control is the key here. You think the FDA is discrediting drugs from Canada in order to protect your health? Get real.

While there are medicinal uses for some natural drugs (such as medical marijuana), their use still inevitably interferes with clarity and clouds the Law of Attraction, so use them sparingly if at all. On the other hand, there are also natural plant-based medicines that actually enhance clarity when used as part of sacred spiritual journeys. Western society has declared such substances to be illegal drugs, but they are deliberately and consciously used with great care in healing journey experiences in many other parts of the world.

So if you've ever wondered why Ritalin -- which has no medical purpose whatsoever -- is perfectly legal, and yet medical marijuana -- which has a well-proven medical purpose -- is outlawed, now you know the answer: because Ritalin makes powerful people rich. And marijuana doesn't. Anybody can grow marijuana. Drug companies don't control the patents.
Get real. The FDA is simply protecting the monopoly drug market in this country. It's controlling distribution points in the U.S. in the same way that a crack dealer assassinates his street corner competition.
It gets right down to answering the question of why DEA agents will raid medical marijuana clinics, yet stand by doing nothing while Americans smoke themselves to death on tobacco. Want to know the real answer? I very much doubt you do. Because, like most Americans, you won't believe it. You've been blinded to the obvious truth for your whole life, manipulated by the media, and brainwashed by advertising that has turned you into a statistically-validated consumer. You'll think, no, this couldn't possibly be true. The world isn't that unjust, you think. But you're wrong.
Wrong again. medical marijuana is a medically proven treatment for a variety of conditions, yet marijuana still remains illegal. Even MDMA (now called "Ecstasy" on the street) was long considered an effective "experiential drug" that helped severely traumatized adult patients overcome past pains through improved clarity. At the same time, tobacco smoke has no medical purpose whatsoever, yet cigarettes remain perfectly legal. No, the real difference between these two classes of drugs is not their medical merit, nor their safety. The real difference is something far more sinister.

An honest reassessment of both medical marijuana and industrial hemp is long overdue. Smoking marijuana can be a problematic drug habit also, and like other substances, we need to find that healthy and non-dependent relationship. When it's used daily to feel high instead of dealing with emotions and life, it can be destructive. Overall, we can generally say that the least drugs we use, the better. Again, if you have an active drug problem, stopping totally can be dangerous. You may need a slower transition or guidance and support.

The opponents of medical marijuana believe that the advocates of medical use of the plant are only using the issue as a wedge to open the way for recreational use. Because it would be impossible for anyone to accuse the American Cancer Society of being a front for a recreational drug use agenda, it is likely that if this organization were to actively engage in the effort to legalize medical marijuana, countless patients would be spared untold suffering, and lives would be saved. Twenty seven states have passed have passed medical marijuana laws. The reason for this is that almost nobody wants to deny a person medicine that can relieve pain or suffering. If marijuana were to be legalized for medical use, the list of ailments and symptoms which it could be used for would be enormous. The U.S. Pharmacopia pre-prohibition had a five page discussion of its uses. These include, anti-nausea, anti-spasmodic, lowering blood pressure, treatment of glaucoma, anorexia, bulimia, tranquilizer, sedative and as anti-depressant.

Studies have been designed to assess the medicinal use of Cannabis as an adjunct in AIDS therapy (Doblin 1994), and voters in California, Arizona, and other states have passed initiatives supporting the legalization of medical marijuana (ADH 1997). Constituents The resin, the female inflorescences, and the leaves of hemp all contain an essential oil and other substances, primarily cannabinoids, more than sixty of which are already known structurally and pharmacologically (Brenneisen 1986; Clarke 1981; Hollister 1986; Mechoulam 1970; Schmidt 1992).

That year I formed the Business Alliance for Commerce in Hemp, or BACH, with a five year plan to advance these goals: restore industrial hemp in manufacture, allow prescription medical marijuana, and regulate the production and sale of cannabis for adult use. This project coincided with a grassroots revival of a global cannabis reform movement, to the seeming dismay of both the drug legalizers, who had avoided discussing industrial hemp for years, and hemp industries who had sought to distance themselves from the marijuana debate.
Meanwhile, cancer and AIDS patients and members of the medical marijuana movement have taken responsibility for their own health and self-medicate without a doctor's prescription. Economics of Cannabis Legalization by Dale Gieringer, Ph.D. MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION offers an important advantage over decriminalization in that it allows for legal distribution and taxation of cannabis. In the absence of taxation, the free market price of legal marijuana would be extremely low, on the order of five to ten cents per joint.
Robert Clarke and Dave Pate's chapter, "Medical Marijuana" references its many uses. They show that there is an extremely large body of data on its use as a treatment. It is clear from the article that Cannabis can serve many medical uses for humankind. Used recreationally, the industry would grow much larger. Dale Gieringer's article, "Economics of Cannabis Legalization" uses a standard economic formula to gain a perspective on the economic potential of the industry. He shows that the potential tax revenues and enforcement savings could be quite significant.
