Magnetic Therapy
A synthesis of two theories, that of acupressure and the effects of magnetic fields on chi, magnetic therapy involves placing ball bearings or flat magnets on acupressure points to treat ailments. The magnets are held in position by adhesive tape and can be left in place for varying lengths of time, depending on the disorder being treated. They can be safely worn for many days, although it is advisable to move them slightly from time to time. They are most commonly about the size of a small pea. | | Not a great deal of research has been conducted on the therapeutic capacity of magnetic therapy but there are vast numbers of personal testimonials to its effectiveness. It would seem it has had most success in treating muscular-skeletal problems, rheumatism and arthritis, bronchitis and asthma.
There are many other magnetic products on the market designed to be worn on acupressure points, but these are not the same as magneton therapy. You can read more about these products in Chapter 10.
Cupping
Cupping is not suitable for children. | | But perhaps magnetic therapy can improve asthma.
Magneton therapy is currently having quite an impact, being used to treat a variety of ailments, from various respiratory conditions to painful conditions, as well as fatigue, dizziness, eating disorders, and insomnia. Remarkable success has been achieved with magneton therapy to relieve painful muscular disorders and disease involving the nerves, skin, blood vessels and bones. | | Increasing interest in magnetic therapy has resulted in a wide range of products being developed. Magnets have been put inside body supports for the back, knees, ankles, wrist, elbows, head and neck. They have been designed to be inserted in pillows, bedding, even shoe insoles. There is magnetic jewellery, especially bracelets, which can be worn to help pain-affected areas. Many health food stores stock these products.
Jan, a 25-year-old nurse, has had two major back operations. She is reluctant to take strong medication and her condition is such that future treatment for her is limited. | Dawson Church See book keywords and concepts | Magnets have shown themselves effective in many kinds of therapy But until the discovery of magnetite in the human brain, there were few credible explanations of why magnetic therapy "produced improvements in a wide range of medical conditions, including tendonitis, blood circulation, diabetic neuropathy, bone cysts, hyper tension, optic nerve atrophy, facial paralysis, and fracture healing."20
Electromagnetic field of human heart21
The Earth's predominant resonant frequency (the Schumann Resonance) is 7 to ten cycles per second (Hertz), with an average reading of 7.8 Hertz. | Herbert Ross, DC with Keri Brenner, L.Ac. See book keywords and concepts | The most common types of magnets used in magnetic therapy are ceramic and neodym-ium (a rare-earth element). These substances are mixed with iron to increase the magnet's strength or the duration of magnetic charge. Neodymium magnets are more powerful (and expensive), while ceramic magnets are less expensive but still keep their charge for many years. These magnetic materials are incorporated into various types of products that are widely available: wrist and back supports; seat pads; strips worn inside shoes, and plastiform strips that attach to the skin by an elastic adhesive. | Barrie R Cassileth, Ph.D. See book keywords and concepts | Malnutrition is a potential problem, magnetic therapy See "electromagnetic therapy." malignant Tending to metastasize and infiltrate. Removing toxic wastes from the body through magnetic therapy is another approach to improving skin problems. Sleeping on a magnetic bed is used as a way to increase oxygen to the entire system and remove acidity. Additionally, magnets help to eliminate inflammation. Magnets can be placed directly on lesions, but to ensure cleanliness, it is suggested that cotton be placed between the magnet and the lesion. If an area is too tender for magnets, spraying magnetically charged water over the area is a good substitute. Be sure to use the negative pole of the magnet only. | The Life Extension Editorial Staff See book keywords and concepts | For chronic or serious wounds, consider alternative treatments such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, whirlpool therapy, ultrasound treatment, electrical stimulation, magnetic therapy, and therapeutic touch.
12. For wounds and fractures that do not heal as expected, it might be beneficial to seek help from a university orthopedic or plastic surgery section using local application of growth factors and new drugs that affect growth factors. For nonunion bone fractures, electrical stimulation is an option available at university hospitals as well as other institutions. | | If your pain is musculoskeletal in origin, it is essential to consider therapies such as biofeedback, massage, hypnosis, physiotherapy, acupuncture, magnetic therapy, and others. Exercise is an important part of any therapeutic regime, but in some cases it may exacerbate a pain condition. Over-the-counter preparations may be helpful in acute pain, but may not be strong enough for pain that is chronic. Prescription medications may be required in addition to other approaches. | Larry Trivieri, Jr. See book keywords and concepts | Kidney stones and calcium deposits in inflamed tissues have also been known to dissolve. magnetic therapy has been shown to be particularly effective in reducing swelling (edema). Studies continue to demonstrate the value of magnetic field therapy for a wide range of conditions, including stress, heart disease, infections, injuries, nervous disorders, cancer, and sleep disorders, among others.
Stress
A negative magnetic field applied to the top of the head has a calming and sleep-inducing effect on brain and body functions, by stimulating production of the hormone melatonin, according to Dr. | Ann Blake Tracy, Ph.D. See book keywords and concepts | | MAGNET THERAPY: Another company that has products to assist with the various pains caused by these drugs, such as fibromyalgia or other types of arthritis, is magnetic therapy by Nikken. Since taking pain killers, or most any drug, after being on a serotonergic drug can cause so many serious reactions, I prefer using magnets to prevent these drug-induced pains. By using magnets rather than pain killers there is not more damage caused by additional mind altering chemicals. | | There is also research to demonstrate that magnetic therapy when applied via a magnetic headband can rid one of depression.
It is not advisable to abruptly stop using psychiatric drugs. If you are considering discontinuing the use of Prozac or any of the other SSRIs, it is advisable to do so under the supervision of a physician. Patients are reporting that abrupt discontinuation, rather than tapering off these drugs, can have very serious physical and psychological repercussions. | | Other cultures have for many more years than we have even dreamed of practicing modern medicine, turned to diet, herbs, fasting, yoga, exercising, biofeedback, oxygen therapy, lymphatic massage; aromatherapy, acupuncture, acupressure, deep breathing exercises , sauna baths, various types of water therapy, magnetic therapy treatments, meditation, chelation, etc. In many cultures these practices are often included as a part of their religion. | Stanley W. Lawrence, M.D., Ph.D. See book keywords and concepts | Usually, an injury like that for someone his age would take ten days to two weeks to heal, using a combined approach including ice and/or moist heat and magnetic therapy. With the addition of MSM, the youngster was fully recovered in a week and back on the playing field. He took three teaspoons of MSM daily.
I have found that about 60 to 70 percent of my patients with simple bursitis or tendinitis respond very well to MSM.
Stanley Jacob, M.D. | Richard Gerber, M.D. See book keywords and concepts | Researchers found that 73 percent of patients with RA and 67 percent of patients with DJD had significant improvement following magnetic therapy, compared with a control group treated with only short-wave diathermy in which only 44.6 percent improved. Other European, Indian, and American researchers have reported successes in using different variations of magnetic-field therapy to treat a variety of disorders. As we shall see in later chapters, the effectiveness of magnetic fields for healing has unique implications for less conventional forms of energy therapy. | Larry Trivieri, Jr. See book keywords and concepts | Researchers suggest that magnetic therapy can be used to counter the effects caused by the electromagnetic pollution in the environment. enough negative magnetic energy at the injury to facilitate healing. This is because the human body has some limitations—based on its own energy capacity—on how much negative magnetic energy it can generate. Adding a negative magnetic field from a source outside the body can provide anti-stressful energy of sufficient strength for healing to occur, supplementing the body's effort to heal. | | Philpott suggests that many psychological disorders are caused by electromagnetic imbalances in the body and that these can be corrected through the application of magnetic therapy, which uses specially designed magnets placed on or above different parts of the body. "Anxieties, phobias, obsessions, compulsions, depression, psychosis, and seizures evoke an abnormal rise in the electrical activity of the central nervous system," he says. Such conditions, according to Dr. | | At the same time, a large number of people in the same community had a severe three-week siege of influenza; those patients who used magnetic therapy like Susan achieved the same results.
Pain and Injuries
A negative magnetic field normalizes the disturbed metabolic functions that cause painful conditions such as cellular edema (swelling of the cells), cellular acidosis (excessive acidity of the cells), lack of oxygen to the cells, and infection. | | A national clearinghouse for information relating to both health risks from power line magnetic fields and the health benefits from magnetic therapy.
