If you look at every living form, you will not find a fire in any living thing on the planet.
Mike: Of course, all the animals out there eat raw.
Wolfe: Right. What do you find in every living thing in the world? Every bacteria, every human, every plant -- you find water. All we really are is a machine that ennobles water, and that uplifts water to high levels of consciousness. You can't really do that on pizza. But, you can do that with fresh vegetable juice. You can do that with smoothies.

Late adopters are finally waking up to natural living principles
It's true! Three years ago when NewsTarget readers were buying organic, and avoiding fragrance chemicals in their body lotions, and eating blueberries and superfoods, most of the world thought you were nuts, right? But today, the rest of the world is beginning to adopt the healthful living strategies pioneered by the kind of people who read NewsTarget. We don't take credit for it: we're merely one branch in a huge wave of positive transformation that started decades ago with the nutrition, organics and green living movements. |
| We're all part of a natural living / green living / sustainable future movement that's reshaping the world right now, through highly effective educational campaigns and grassroots organization.
How you can help us continue to grow

Liers: living Fuel. I co-developed it with K.C. Craichy, the CEO of living Fuel Inc. The website for living Fuel Inc. is www.LivingFuel.com and we have two versions of it. One is the original, the Super Greens, and then we did another version, because half the people in the country have an aversion to greens. We made a berry version with all-organic, freeze-dried blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and cranberries called living Fuel Super Berry. The ingredients are organic freeze-dried berries and chia, along with rice protein, pea protein, enzymes, and probiotics. |

When it comes to the science of living longer, however, centenarians can no more tell us how they reached age 100 than a seven-foot man can tell us how he got to be so tall. They don't know. Does Ushi's nightly cup of sake infused with mugwort provide some healthful benefits? Perhaps, but it doesn't begin to explain why she doesn't have cancer or heart problems or why she possesses such vigor at age 104. |
| The specific mechanism by which persons living in this territory were more likely to reach extreme longevity remains unknown," the researchers concluded.
As a demographer, Poulain's work was describing populations with data, not jumping to conclusions. Other than pointing out that other areas of extreme longevity existed in mountainous areas, his paper did not attempt to explain why the inhabitants of this Blue Zone were able to live so long. Unraveling this mystery would require a multidisci-plinary approach to the history, diet, and lifestyle of local populations, he believed. |

We dump on this earth with landfills, and what we do to the rivers and streams in this country is appalling, but obviously you believe in living in harmony with it.
Wolfe: Ultimately, to change and transform the planet, we have to create economic incentives and economic methods of manufacturing that are environmentally friendly, and that entice people into those things. When you're running a big operation and you know your competitor has this technology that's cheap and efficient, but it's trashing the planet, and you don't have it, then you're going out of business. You're kind of stuck. |

The amount of vitamin D in a multivitamin is not enough, especially if you are living in relatively northern cities such as New York or Chicago or have dark skin or work long hours or have celebrated many birthdays. Vitamin D in our bodies controls key elements of the immune system, blood pressure, and cell growth, and is important for cancer regulation. And in the test tube, vitamin D kills the cancers that most often kill Americans."

Run by a doting family, the lodge was close to villagers living a traditional lifestyle and small enough that we could take over the compound. It came with its own troupe of howler monkeys and was just down the road from a centenarian. (Michel had spent much of the intervening five months studying maps and spreadsheets to better define Costa Rica's Blue Zone and found that it was located only in the midsection of the peninsula, excluding both the southern and northern extremes and the Pacific Coast. |
| Tom Perls: I used to equate living to 100 to picking all five numbers in the lottery: The odds are pretty small. If you have longevity running in your family paired with good health behaviors, your chances are greater.
Centenarians today are the fastest growing segment of our population, partly because we're doing a better job of screening for high blood pressure. That's one important lottery ball that we don't need to leave to chance. Now instead of five numbers, it's down to four.
Another one that we've pretty much gotten rid of is substantial childhood mortality. |

Belief is not just about what you think is true; it is a living dream with an emotional signature populated by agreements that define and defend its point of view. When you balance the Four Elements of Belief—Air: intellect and perception, Water: emotions in the moment and emotions in memory, Fire: intention and intent, and finally Earth: the dream and the dreamer—all the potential, all the possibility of belief is within reach.
Everything you do is based on all the agreements you have made with yourself. To support the beliefs you would like to have, design a new framework of agreements. |

The logic that describes the universal living memory process is not itself controversial. In fact, as you learn the logic in this chapter, you will probably say what I said when I first learned the logic. "Of course! It's obvious." You may even wonder, as I did, "Why didn't I see it before?"

Most people reading living the Low-Carb Life understand by now the concept of insulin resistance and the role elevated insulin levels play in weight gain. We saw in chapter 2 just how this mechanism operates, and it is the underlying concept in every one of the diet plans discussed in this book. What has not been emphasized in any of the plans so far is adrenal health.
The adrenal glands are responsible for the secretion of two critical hormones: Cortisol and adrenaline. These are also known as stress hormones— they are involved in the "fight or flight" response. Cortisol is a major hormone. |
| Fingers are beginning to point suspiciously to an overload of insulin as a common culprit at the root of at least some of these metabolic and negative health effects like heart disease; controlling insulin was the main purpose of the original Atkins diet and has become the raison d'etre of the low-carb approach to living. (In the next chapter, we will explore some of the connections between high levels of insulin and heart disease, hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. |

I had been living by a moral code, a code of virtue. I was taught that they were wrong and we were right. My use of this moral code led me astray and caused me great pain. I'm not a sociopath or person who doesn't care. After I got back home, I wondered—how could I do this? What I discovered through years of guilt and shame is I am intrinsically moral. My whole being told me in those situations exactly what to do. My body balked and felt sick when I was confronted with what I was told I was supposed to do."
Have you ever heard someone say, "I knew it was wrong but I did it anyway"? |

So I have designed living the Low-Carb Life to be used like the / Ching—open it anywhere and it will give you information you want.
I imagine that some of you will be interested in understanding more about the different popular diet plans, how they work, how they differ from one another, and what they offer. You guys should go straight for chapter 3—Seventeen Low-Carb Diets and What They Can Do for You— find the plan or plans you are interested in, and read about them. |
| Folks, low-carb living is not dangerous.
And it works.
Maybe not for everybody. Maybe not in every situation. (Remember, I'm the guy who has been preaching for the last fifteen years that everybody's different and that no one diet works for everyone). But a low-carb diet works for many, many people. A large percentage of the people who are consciously controlling their carbs report that they find the diet easy to stay with. The enormous number of new lower-carb products on the market has afforded us more choices and variety. |
| And the skulls of those living on modern foods revealed teeth filled with cavities and jaws that were misshapen and too small for the teeth (Dr. Weston Price's seminal 1939 book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, contains many pictures that dramatically illustrate this phenomenon).
Then came fermentation and salting. Grains were fed to livestock, making them fatter but also changing the quality of their meat and their fat. |

Raw foods: the most exciting foods in the world
People think that when I eat healthy, I'm somehow living on really boring, drab foods all the time. But they're completely wrong about that. I'm living on the most exciting foods in the world. I'm living on foods that make all the processed, junk foods taste like dirt.
I'm not giving up anything by living a super-healthy lifestyle. In fact, I'm gaining in every area. The taste experience is more interesting and more expansive. The health benefits are phenomenal. The expanded awareness happens automatically. I'm not giving up anything at all! |
