Mike Adams, the Health Ranger See article keywords and concepts | Definitely avoid non-organic kefir of any kind, and I strongly recommend that even when you buy organic kefir, avoid products made with added sugars. This is a fermented beverage, not ice cream. Don't think it's supposed to taste like a milkshake. It's a slightly bitter beverage when you drink it plain, but that's what kefir is supposed to be.
Thumbs way up: Raw almond milk
Another current favorite at my house is raw almond milk. It's made from raw, soaked almonds, water, vanilla and a pinch of sea salt. I've posted a video on how to make this yourself using a Vita-Mix. | | Fermented milk from cows or goats (organic kefir): A great choice! It's alive, nutritious and great for digestive health. Make it yourself for best results. If you buy it, avoid the sugared-up kefir products in the store.
Raw almond milk: A top choice for vegans, one of my favorite beverages. Make it yourself with raw almonds, water a nut milk bag and a blender. Click here to see my almond milk recipe video.
Enjoy! | | Many raw food proponents are now drinking a combination of raw almond milk and raw goat's milk kefir. That's a combination I'm enjoying, too. Boushey See book keywords and concepts | Feeding a 20-g lactose load as plain kefir reduced breath hydrogen excretion (8-hour area under the curve) by nearly threefold and decreased flatulence symptoms by 50% compared with the same amount of lactose from milk. The response to yogurt was similar to that observed with kefir.
E. Unfermented Acidophilus Milk
Individuals who are lactose maldigesters may consume unfermented milk containing cultures of Lactobacillus acidophilus in an effort to consume adequate amounts of calcium and avoid intolerance symptoms [94-96]. Various strains of L. | | Hertzler and Clancy [93] investigated the effect of kefir ingestion on lactose maldigestion and intolerance symptoms in a group of lactose maldigesters. The kefir used in the study contained Streptococcus lactis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Streptococcus cremoris, Lactobacillus casei, Streptococcus diacetylactis, Saccharomyces florentinus, and Leuconostoc cremoris (as per label information) as the starter cultures. | Marshall Editions See book keywords and concepts | If you are taking antibiotics, consume plenty of non-dairy sources of probiotics such as yogurt, sauerkraut, or kefir.

Boushey See book keywords and concepts | Yogurt, kefir, and capsules containing freeze-dried probiotic bacteria are examples of commercially available probiotics.
The beneficial effects of consuming probiotics, which include improvement in lactose tolerance and a reduction in the risk and severity of diarrheal symptoms (i.e., as a side effect to antibiotics, traveler's diarrhea, or induced by rotavirus as in the case of gastroenteritis), have been observed in clinical studies. | Herbert Ross, DC with Keri Brenner, L.Ac. See book keywords and concepts | Cultured products such as yogurt and kefir (a fermented milk drink) are excellent sources of probiotics.
