What we have, then, is a huge population of internet users who are visiting various sites on the internet, who are seeing offers to subscribe to email newsletters, and who are evaluating those offers in terms of email privacy. When the evaluation seems to indicate to the user that the company can't be trusted, or if it even raises a question about trust, they stand a very high chance of avoiding subscribing to that email newsletter. |
| Why do email subscribers and internet users have such strong beliefs about email privacy? According to the Relemail study, it's because 87 percent have received spam that they believe resulted from a company selling their email address out the back door. We all get spam, but the question that's relevant in this case is: Where does the spam come from? Whether or not it is true, most internet users believe that spam comes from handing over their email address by signing up for an email newsletter. They start receiving spam, and, correct or not, they believe it came from that subscription. |

I believe a lot of this is driven by the internet and I think that's one of the reasons why the work that you're doing and the work I'm doing on the internet is having a massive impact -- because the internet obliterates the centralized control of information.
Mike: Yes, and again, to those reading -- what you are reading right here -- would never happen in a major newspaper or magazine, because you don't see this interview surrounded by ads. This is us talking about genuine nutrition. Real food. |

These are: that email privacy is now at the top of the list of concerns for internet users, that businesses and organizations are losing potential subscribers due to distrust, and that if companies would take the step to get independently certified, they would not only see an increase in subscription rates, they would see much higher loyalty from those subscribers as they continue to evolve their business-to-consumer (B2C) relationships. |
| Simply making this statement this on your website is not enough to convince intelligent internet users. They automatically suspect everyone because they've been burned before. So 78 percent carry around the belief that they can't trust these self-serving statements by companies. This is why independent certification has now become so important for gaining the trust of readers -- only an independent, unbiased third party certification service can accurately convey that your organization follows email best practices and won't spam end users. |
| We're seeing that internet users are skeptical of the privacy claims of companies, and that they will avoid subscribing to email newsletters if they don't trust that company, or if they have some reason to suspect that their email privacy won't be observed. We also see that people are far more likely to subscribe when privacy practices have been independently certified, and once they do subscribe they are far more likely to give that organization more business, because they trust that organization and they're happy to do business with an organization that acts ethically. |

That's why we're thrilled to be able to offer a program like this Citizen Journalism project: It empowers individuals to take part in the "information democracy" that makes the internet so important for the future of human rights, free speech, government accountability, corporate ethics and so much more. The internet is the pillar of information freedom today, and even projects like Wikipedia are hugely important for the free flow of information (which is exactly why the traditional old-school media loves to attack Wikipedia!). |

And you know what's key to that? The internet. Without the internet, nobody would know the truth about Big Pharma, the FDA, and the dangers of organized medicine.
So feel good about what you've done so far, and keep yourself in a state of readiness to participate in yet more grassroots action that accelerates changes toward natural health and sustainable living. I believe we will live to see the demise of the FDA as it is currently structured. We will one day drive an electric car that's refueled for free using solar panels on the roof of our home. |

All made possible by Free Speech on the Internet
The internet is making all of this possible, and it’s freedom of speech that provides the environment in which all of this can take place. So whatever you do in 2006 to improve your health, make sure you also continue to support the internet.
Support freedom of speech and citizen journalism, support the web sites that are bringing you the information that helps you improve your life, and support the companies in the nutritional industry that are providing these incredible life-saving, disease-reversing products. |

You can fully expect the internet to be increasingly attacked and discredited by the mainstream media, which continues to lose readers and viewers by the day. It is only the internet that offers any real hope of reform or revolution in the years ahead. Intelligent people saved this country once already (from Great Britain), and I believe it is possible they may do so once again, but certainly not if they're all doped up on antidepressant drugs.
Finally, I have to wonder, what good is a free press if it's a false press? |

Mike: I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to pass a bill to outlaw health talk on the internet.
Dr. Blaylock: They're trying to do it. You know, they passed a law at one time in several states that no one but dietitians could speak on the subject of nutrition. Several states had that law passed. This meant Ph.D. biochemists couldn't talk about health. It was ridiculous. I'm sure that one day they're going to have an internet bill saying there's just too much dangerous material coming over the internet on health issues, and we need to regulate it. |

While it is true that at present the world is still divided into those who have access to the internet and those who do not, it is also true that the number of people who have access to it is increasing very rapidly. Satellite and computer technologies will certainly make the internet available to all, as it potentially already is; in many food communities, even in the most remote and isolated ones, communication via internet is already a reality. |

These include cravings (in this case, for more time on the computer), neglecting family members and friends, moodiness when not using the computer, and lying to people about the amount of time spent on the internet. In a newspaper story, a twenty-two-year-old man described why he kept his e-mail and instant-messaging connection active twenty-four hours a day: "I may not use it, but it could ring anytime.... If I don't have it, I feel cut off."

Not only was this information appearing in numerous scientific journals and books, it was flowing to the general public through numerous sources: newsletters, popular books and especially the internet. The truth is that the internet has revolutionized medical care in this country. Patients with a variety of diseases are now searching the internet and finding enormous amounts of information, and have access to renowned experts and basic research that before remained obscure. |

Plus, we've got the internet on our side (because information WANTS to be free!), which gives us the ability to bypass the mainstream media and share information directly with the people.
The internet could be the single most important tool in the regaining of freedom and civil liberties in America and other countries.
So keep those cell phone videos rolling. Keep a compact video camera handy for all occasions. When the authorities step out of line, press the record button and try not to get your ass arrested. Book it back home, upload it to YouTube, and send me the link. |

Based on internet searches, antidepressants are much on the mind of Americans. Remarkably, almost a quarter of American internet users have searched for mental health topics like depression and anxiety. As a category, mental health issues are searched for more often than immunizations, dental health, Medicare or Medicaid, sexual health information, or problems with drugs and alcohol.29 In July 2006, of the ten most popular online searches for pharmaceutical and medical products, six concerned psychiatric drugs or psychiatric disease. |

The internet is now the place that intelligent people go to get their information. Newspapers, magazines and cable news programs remain primary information sources only for those brainwashed masses that prefer to avoid thinking for themselves. In 1998, we delighted in surfing the internet, even with slow download speeds. Then, after we got a taste of how fast download speeds could be at work, we felt that we had to have equally fast download times at home. As a result, we've become impatient with dial-up modems. People now expect to surf internet sites as fast as they switch channels on television—but not everything in the world happens at a snap of the fingers.
Like multitasking, cell phones have significantly increased our distractibility (and of course, we often multitask with cell phones). |

| Some insurance companies allow people to get a three-month supply of medication for a single copayment when they order from internet pharmacies, cutting costs by 67%.
Patients can also save by buying up to a year's supply at a time.
Example: One man ordered a year's supply of the thyroid hormone levothyroxine. He skipped his insurance company entirely—and still saved $80.
In addition, some pharmacies offer free shipping on big orders.
•Pick a company that has a "live" pharmacist. Avoid any internet pharmacies that don't provide customer support. |
| A few internet pharmacies, such as AARP's, charge patients annual membership fees. If you need many prescriptions over a year, the savings can more than offset the extra fee.

We go to the internet to diagnose ourselves and march into our doctors' offices with our sheets of printouts in hand. We demand to be given prescriptions for the drugs we see advertised on TV, and we want to have an MRI for every sprained wrist and swollen knee.
Doctors, too, have come to view us patients with increasing distrust. They worry we will sue them for malpractice, or that we will complain to our insurers if they don't provide the care we demand. Doctors' chat rooms on the internet are filled with dispirited and angry postings. |

One danger with internet addiction, like any type of addiction, is that it can interfere with normal and healthy interactions between people. It literally becomes a distraction from the rest of one's life, and the implications go beyond the occasional internet affair that leads to a divorce. When we spend excessive time on the computer and not interacting with another person face to face, we find it all too easy to forget how to engage in stimulating conversations, use good manners while eating, or show common courtesies to other people. |
