Low-grade infection. High blood-sugar levels interfere with the body's ability to fight bacterial infections. Doctors have known for more than a century that people with diabetes are especially susceptible to infections. In laboratory tests, high-sugar foods reduce the activity of white blood cells within minutes. Infections also promote inflammation.
Cancer. High insulin levels have been linked to breast, prostate, and colon cancers. Excess insulin seems to promote the growth of cancers. |

THE EXPORTATION OF OBESITY
So what is the biggest contributor to the rising obesity rates worldwide? Without a doubt it is the rise in popularity of American food?and not just fast food, but also soft drinks like Coke and Pepsi, and other food and beverages laden with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). |

So, for example, a medical doctor might use a drug, an antibiotic, to kill off an infection when a patient has an infection. What we would rather do is look at why is that person's immune system not working the way it's supposed to, and look at what diet, herbal, lifestyle changes they need so that their immune system will work properly, and not only will that current infection go away, but they'll have less chance of infections in the future.
Mike: It sounds like it's an approach that has a lot of faith in nature and faith in the human body to heal itself.

This means not only increasing efforts to fight infectious diseases, but also redoubling efforts to combat famine, because infection and malnutrition are part of a vicious circle in which infection can precipitate malnutrition by affecting the absorption of nutrients and the depletion of nutrients can cause further infection. Bill and Melinda Gates, two fellow boomers, have made the fight against infectious diseases the primary focus of their philanthropy for a reason: It is one of the most important global issues that our generation must address. |

This is relevant to the viral hypothesis [of schizophrenia] because the shared vascular communication would encourage mutual infection when an infectious agent crosses the shared placenta of an MC twin pair. On the other hand, infections and other toxic insults could breach the placenta of only one twin in a DC pair, leaving the cotwin unaffected.1
"MC twins," they concluded, "are likely to be mutually affected by such insults as bloodborne infections, while DC twins ?with their separate fetal circulations ?cannot share infections through an exchange of blood. |

The real cause of an infection is just as much a weakened immune system as it is the presence of the virus, yet conventional medicine focuses solely on the presence of the virus and dismisses the role of the immune system in preventing infection.

She had been admitted to the hospital with an infection in the joint of her right hip. Doctors gave her an antibiotic, but the infection spread through her bloodstream to her lungs. She soon developed pneumonia and empyema. She died after five weeks in the hospital.
The other two children were a twelve-month-old white boy from rural North Dakota and a thirteen-year-old white girl from Minnesota. Both had suddenly developed ferocious lung infections. Doctors gave them vancomycin, an extremely powerful antibiotic that is considered a medicine of last resort. |

It may decrease the efficiency of the immune system and render the person susceptible to infection. Recurrent infections of any kind are usually an indication of this process. The infections must be treated "medically," but they will continue to recur if they are not treated psychologically as well. It is highly significant that many of the people suffering from the pain of TMS who have participated in our therapeutic program have reported the disappearance of allergies or frequent infections simultaneously with the cessation of pain. |

In centuries past, patterns of infection proved to have broad, underlying social and economic causes. As open sewers stopped flowing into local rivers, refrigeration provided more fresh fruits and vegetables, and workplaces stopped burning wastes in cities, deaths from once fatal infections like tuberculosis and typhoid dropped in industrialized nations. Chronic illnesses also can have broad social roots in both developed and developing countries. Just having the bad luck to grow up in a place downstream from heavy industry can add to this cancer burden. |
| Overwhelmed by cells that are supposed to fight off infection but do not, the immune system stops working well. Whenever a virus or bacterium enters the bodv of a healthy person, it gets zapped by a complement of cellular policemen.
Leukemia upsets the immune system's ability to know when to turn itself on or off. Some of the first signs of leukemia emerge when ordinary cuts and bruises and other simple health problems put extraordinary burdens on the body. Infections are not fought off. Bruises develop easily. Joints ache from things that a well body would not even feel. |

The infection Connection
While studying people who showed signs of neurasthenia, Soviet researchers determined that many of them first developed symptoms following an infection, such as influenza. We, too, have seen numerous patients who experienced extreme physical and/or mental fatigue following treatment for various infections, including Lyme disease.
Even when antibiotics presumably have cleared away the active infection, residual symptoms may persist for months or even years. |

C-Glycosylflavonoids accumulated at the plasma membrane immediately at the powdery mildew infection site and inhibition of CHS expression reduced resistance to fungal infection (McNally et al., 2003; Fofana et al., 2005). Theses studies suggest that different classes of flavonoids and their derivatives have differential functions.

Antibacterial soaps and cleansers are those that contain triclosan or triclocarban (the most typical antibacterial agents used), but there is little to no independent scientific data published to suggest that these products prevent infection. In addition, and even more problematic, is a finding that triclosan-resistant bacteria have recently been identified (Source: American Journal of infection Control, October 2001, pages 281-283). Similar concerns were discussed in Emerging Infectious Diseases (2001, volume 7, issue 3, Supplemental, pages
512-515). |

Typhoid Mary, from a contemporary publication" by a strain of salmonella bacteria, is spread by poor hygiene, and in Mary's case, denial, since she believed she was healthy. She maintained her innocence even when doctors confronted her with evidence to the contrary—and to be fair, there was no scientific consensus at the time that a person could carry a disease without an active infection. |

Placed directly on or in the wound, it kills bacteria, prevents infection and actually nourishes the traumatized tissues while sealing the wound against outside infection. Nothing beats aloe for emergency trauma medicine. If the U.S. military had any sense, they'd be carrying aloe vera leaves around to treat soldiers suffering from shrapnel wounds and explosion burns.

Zinc: Best taken prior to surgery, zinc reduces wound healing time, rapidly reduces wound size, and bolsters immune function to help ward off infection. Topical zinc, such as calamine lotion, also inhibits bacteria growth on the surface of skin, helping to prevent infection. As zinc deficiency is common in the United States, most doctors recommend 30 mg/day, taken orally for four to six weeks, to bring your levels up to par before surgery. |

A cold, a urinary tract infection, a foot sore, an ear infection—you name it. They all tend to raise your blood glucose. Sometimes a surprisingly small cut or a cough you're hardly aware of boosts your fasting blood sugar values. As the infection heals (with medical treatment as needed), your blood glucose will recover. Your doctor may decide to adjust your diabetes medications in the interim.

The next test, a biopsy of the heart muscle, showed that as a result of suffering a viral infection of the heart, Wayne had developed cardiomyopathy (extreme weakness of the heart muscle). The infection had most likely occurred in the spring when Wayne contracted what he believed was the flu. He'd actually contracted a viral myocarditis, which caused severe damage to his heart.
The cardiologist prescribed the blood thinner Coumadin and placed Wayne on several other medications in an attempt to strengthen his heart. |

| The CDC warns that 90% of upper respiratory infections, including children's ear infections, are viral, and antibiotics don't treat viral infection. More than 40% of about 50 million prescriptions for antibiotics each year in physicians' offices were inappropriate.2 And using antibiotics, when not needed, can lead to the development of deadly strains of bacteria that are resistant to drugs and cause more than 88,000 deaths due to hospital-acquired infections. |

Nematode infection induces the formation of root galls. The formation of a symbiotic nodule or a parasitic gall is similar in that auxin accumulation and flavonoid synthesis are observed at the site of infection (Hutangura et al, 1999). In contrast to symbiotic associations, a plant defense response is initiated. In oats, the accumulation of many flavonoid glycosides were induced by nematode invasion or methyl jasmonate application, and O-methylapigenin-C-deoxyhexoside-O-hexoside was identified as the active phytoalexin against two genera of parasitic nematodes (Soriano et al, 2004). |

Tame the Sneaky Yeast Beast to Restore Vitality and Comfort
Take one female body, add sugar, mix with fluctuating hormone levels and some other ingredients such as frequent antibiotics, and you have the recipe for a very pesky yeast infection. A yeast infection, also known as candidiasis, is caused by the overgrowth of a fungus called Candida albicans.
Normally, Candida is present everywhere on the skin, in your mucous membranes, in the vagina and the bowel, and it lives in the body in harmony with hundreds of other beneficial bacteria. |

After Judd was diagnosed with a hepatitis C infection in the early 1990s, she began to have totally disabling panic attacks that kept her from performing on stage. In an interview with Larry King on CNN, Judd described a panic attack as an "intense, absolutely senseless fear" that was almost like having a hallucination. Over several years, she was able to overcome both her hepatitis C infection and her panic attacks through a combination of faith, humor, managing stress, spending time in nature, taking vitamin supplements, and exercising. |
