I'm not big on recommending grains in general, but whole grains are certainly better than refined grains, and the fact that whole grains are getting more press these days, combined with the fact that manufacturers are reformulating their foods to use whole grains rather than refined grains, means that whole grain consumption is going up. This is a very encouraging number because when people eat more whole grains, they have better nutrition. They get more B vitamins and more minerals like calcium, magnesium and zinc... they also get more fiber and healthy oils. |

When you eat grains, try to eat only whole grains. Be sure to read labels to confirm that foods are actually whole grain. şUse all-bran cereals for breakfast or mixed with plain yogurt as a snack. Add all-bran cereals to other cereals and to other foods whenever possible. şBoiled whole grains are best. Brown rice, oatmeal, quinoa, couscous, whole barley, barley grits, and barley flakes are good examples. There are many creative ways to prepare boiled grains. şTry to use legumes as often as possible. Take the time to learn the many ways to use these remarkable foods. |

For those who want their chocolate perfumed, one may add to this recipe 8 grains of ambergris and 4 grains of musk; if one wants ambergris without the musk, use 12 grains. Although he does not say so, "perfumed" chocolate must reflect the Baroque refinements introduced at the decadent court of the Grand Duke of Tuscany.

Eat three servings a day of top-quality protein foods such as fish, poultry, lean meat (free range), eggs, soy, or combinations of beans, lentils, and grains.
?Avoid hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated fats, and reduce your intake of saturated fats from meat, dairy products, and junk food.
?Choose low-GI/GL complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, vegetables, and fruits, and avoid sugar and refined foods.
?Eat fish three times a week, or take fish oil supplements.
?Use cold-pressed seed oils in salad dressings.

With these NPK fertilizers, farmers are able to grow good-looking grains and produce, though the crops remain depleted in all the other necessary minerals. Unfortunately, economics is the driving force behind American agriculture, causing farmers to be more concerned about bushels per acre than the nutrient content of the food they harvest.
Few would argue about the quality of our foods and its decline compared to foods of a generation or two ago. Hybrid grains, vegetables, and fruits have increased in popularity. |

Carbohydrates from grains should be eaten in as wholesome a form as possible. Highly refined grains are stripped of important nutritional substances that give grains their health value.
The best isoprenoid-containing fruits are signified by their deep color. Excellent choices are blueberries, blackberries, cherries, raspberries, cranberries, pomegranate, and red wine. The colorful pigments of all fruits contain health-promoting nutrients.

Recent Australian research has shown, in fact, that it is not the pollen grains themselves that are causing asthma, but the combination of pollen grains and water. When wet, the pollen grain breaks open and releases even tinier particles that reach the air passages, and it is these that aggravate asthma. In dry weather the whole grain is more likely to be caught in the upper respiratory tract, the nose and throat, and cause hay fever instead of asthma.
Asthmatics will know that not all plant species release pollen that causes problems. |

Buffing grains for Face ($40for 0.99 ounce) are made to sound special because you can add these loose grains to any cleanser to create a custom scrub. The novelty may be fun, but this concoction is simply polyethylene beads (plastic beads) with adzuki bean powder and tiny amounts of plant oils, plus a detergent cleansing agent that is activated by water. Polyethylene is used in most topical scrub products; you don't need to spend this much money for its benefit. Still, for the money-is-no-object among us, this is a viable option. |

They found out all these factory poultry farms around the country were producing billions of pounds of manure that pollute the environment. What can we do with all this manure? Presto, they feed it back to cows. They sweep up the manure, the feathers and the dropped bits of cattle that are fed to chickens in their feed. |

So, you can put the plain meat source as your first ingredient, and yet your meat protein is the lowest count in the bag because the grains that come after that are what they use for protein. AFCO says you can use grains as a protein. Animals can't digest grains very well, and they need animal protein in their system to digest and properly utilize that protein. Protein is the most important ingredient in the diet.
Mike: Exactly. Now their whole digestive tract is set up for protein assimilation. The word meal here qualifies this in a way most consumers wouldn't recognize. |

Plants that are wind-pollinated generally produce a huge amount of tiny pollen grains, while insect-pollinated plants release much fewer, larger grains that do not float in the air in the same way. It is the former that trigger asthma. Pollen-related asthma is often seasonal, coinciding with flowering time. If you live in the country there is not a lot you can do to minimise your exposure to pollens at certain times of the year, but you can reduce the pollens in a suburban garden. şPave areas instead of having lawns. |

Similarly, most of us (except premenopausal women) can get plenty of iron from fortified grains. Too much iron can actually be bad for us because it may play a role in generating oxygen-free radicals.
Beans, whole grains, and garden vegetables are the cornerstones of all these longevity diets. Sardinian shepherds take semolina flatbread into the pastures with them. Nicoyans eat corn tortillas at every meal. And whole grain is part of the Adventist diet. |

When grains, such as wheat and corn, are refined food particle size is reduced through grinding, and fiber is either similarly reduced in size or removed altogether. The result is a wheat- or corn-containing food that is absorbed almost as quickly as pure sugar.
Examples: Sugars, such as sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup, are found in nearly all nonfruit sweets, including desserts, doughnuts, pastries, and muffins, as well as soft drinks. Refined grains are used to make bagels, breads, pastas, and pizzas—and most whole-grain breads and pastas are also problematic. |

6. Don't be fooled by the word "wheat" when it comes to flour. All flour derived from wheat can be called "wheat flour," even if it is processed, bleached and stripped of its nutrition. Only "whole grain wheat flour" is a healthful form of wheat flour. (Many consumers mistakenly believe that "wheat flour" products are whole grain products. In fact, this is not true. Food manufacturers fool consumers with this trick.)
7. Don't be fooled into thinking that brown products are healthier than white products. |

Nearly a quarter of these additional calories come from added sugars (and most of that in the form of high-fructose corn syrup); roughly another quarter from added fat (most of it in the form of soybean oil); 46 percent of them from grains (mostly refined); and the few calories left (8 percent) from fruits and vegetables.* The overwhelming majority of the calories Americans have added to their diets since 1985—the 93 percent of them in the form of sugars, fats, and mostly refined grains—supply lots of energy but very little of anything else. |

The cacao beans themselves could sometimes have a similar significance, as can be seen in an early Colonial report on the "wild" (that is still unconquered) Choi Maya of the Chiapas forests, cited by Eric Thompson:
The form of the marriage is: the bride gives the bridegroom a small stool painted in colors, and also gives him five grains of cacao, and says to him "These I give thee as a sign that I accept thee as my husband." And he also gives her some new skirts and another five grains of cacao, saying the same thing. |

They make the Innova EVO that has no grains in it. Why would you feed an animal grains?
We have two dogs, and they get a can of sardines every day. They get their vitamins every day. They get Rejuvenate! -- which has the chlorella and the yeast in it . They get Living Fuel. Maybe we'll give them an RNA tablet. We have seen great changes in them, just as in ourselves. The older dog is 15 and probably would have been dead three years ago. The other is 12 and she runs around like a puppy. She has so much energy. The quality of their hair changes, their eyes change, and they smell better. |

Magnesium, on the other hand, was abundant and readily available, in the form of nuts, seeds, grains, and vegetables, and did not need to be stored internally. Our bodies still retain calcium and not magnesium although we tend to eat much more calcium (in the form of dairy products) than our ancestors.
"In addition, our sugar and alcohol consumption is higher than theirs, and both sugar and alcohol increase magnesium excretion through the urine. Our grains, originally high in magnesium, have been refined, which means that magnesium is lost in the refining process. |

Conversely, those who wish to see oats continue to be excluded from a gluten-free diet argue that, because oats are handled with the same farm machinery and stored and milled in the same facilities as the other three gliadin-rich grains, gliadin contamination is inevitable.
Further, while it is true that the proteins that cause villous atrophy are not present in oats, opponents argue that all other gluten proteins in this grain have not been proven harmless. |
| The impact of eating grains usually occurs well after reproduction, often in middle age. Therefore, the selection process puts only a little pressure on those who are gluten sensitive.
Our Four-Million-Year-Old Gene Pool
Our genetic heritage was shaped by the selection process. At least four million years ago, our branch of primates, called "upright" hominid, separated from great apes, gorillas, and chimpanzees. They have continued to evolve along their own branches of the primate tree, yet we continue to share more than 98 percent of our genetic heritage with the chimpanzee. |

Although ergotism occasionally afflicts domestic livestock, resulting in neurological symptoms, and sometimes lameness and death, modern grain-processing techniques usually provide good protection against it. grains used for human consumption are now treated with much more care. Today, people are rarely afflicted with ergotism, and then it is usually due to overuse of certain drugs intentionally derived from rye molds grown in the laboratory. Such drugs are sometimes used to treat the excessive expansion of blood vessels in the brain that usually underlies migraine headaches. |
