No. Raw fruit juice is always healthier than pasteurized. Heat processing destroys a significant portion of the nutrients found in raw juice.
#2: Is the Bisphenol-A chemical in the plastic containers used with fruit juices a threat to my health?
A small threat, perhaps, but the health benefits of drinking superfruit juices greatly outweigh the health risks of plastics chemicals. Still, it's better to drink such juices from glass containers, not plastic.
#3: Are organic fruit juices healthier than non-organic?
Yes! |
| Reconstituted fruit juice is never as nutritionally potent as fresh fruit juice.
There is also no requirement that juice companies list the country of origin for their juice concentrates. For all you know, they may have been imported from China or some other country famous for exporting contaminated products.
#6: What are the ingredients to watch out for on superfruit juice labels? |

Sweetened with fruit juice" products like jellies
Watch out for products that claim to be made with "no added sugar" or "sweetened with fruit juice." Just because something is sweetened with fruit juice doesn't mean it isn't a high-carbohydrate product. fruit juice, by any measure, has a high glycemic index and counts as a high-impact carbohydrate. While fruit juice may be slightly healthier for you than refined white sugar, it has virtually the same effect on your blood sugar and insulin response. Therefore, avoid products that are sweetened with fruit juice. |

Repeat After Me: fruit juice Is Not—and Never Was—a Health Food
One of the many triumphs of marketing by the giant food conglomerates was convincing America that fruit juice is good for you. There are ads that proclaim proudly that some stupid sugar-laden soft drink is actually 10 percent real fruit juice. fruit juice is not fruit (and for carb addicts, even fruit itself has to be watched, at least in the beginning). fruit juice is plain and simple junk food. |

If you use fruit juice, make sure it is freshly prepared and not older than one hour (best diluted with water). Packaged fruit juices are pasteurized, which makes them acid-forming, deprives them of natural enzymes, and depletes the body of important minerals and vitamins. Many brands contain artificial sweeteners, which dehydrate the body and may damage the brain, nervous system and immune system. It is preferable to eat one kind of fruit at a time.
Fruit or fruit juices should always be taken on an empty stomach. |

Children may drink a lot of fruit juice, more than adults, who are more given to coffee, tea, or alcoholic beverages, though soda pops have replaced some of the more natural fruit juices in young people as well. Fruit juices are still useful, nourishing, and often a good way to obtain the concentrated juice of several pieces of fruit at one sitting.
Vegetable Juices. These are similar to fruit juices except that they are, of course, the extracted liquids of various vegetables. These are also liquids with concentrated nourishment, even more than the fruit juices. |

A healthy regimen of juicing would include a full glass of fruit juice and another of vegetable juice each day. For correcting more serious health problems, more can be consumed in lieu of solid food. For serious illnesses, a total juice diet for one week to one month or longer is sometimes recommended, but this should be done in consultation with a health practitioner. fruit juice should be limited to no more than two glasses daily. Vegetable juice should comprise the majority of juice consumed. |

From the figures I've seen, fruit and fruit juice tend to be more highly contaminated with pesticide residues than other classes of foods. Children eat more fruit and drink by far more fruit juice than adults. From this source alone, they could very easily ingest toxic levels of pesticide residues."
The third aspect of treatment is nutritional supplementation. "For practically all children, we recommend a high-quality hypoallergenic multiple vitamin," Dr. Buttram says. "We use one by Klaire Labs, which makes vitamins separate from minerals. We don't recommend giving large doses. |

It's loaded with sugar, it has none of the fiber of real fruit, it has a high glycemic load, and it contributes absolutely nothing of value to your diet except for a few measly vitamins that you can easily get elsewhere.

What about fruit juices? fruit juice provides many health benefits, since juicing releases numerous flavonoids and health-promoting phytochemicals. The problem is that many commercial brands are made with water containing fluoride, and some, like grape juice, may have extremely high levels of fluoride. Juices are also high in sugar, and many industrial processors will add extra sugar to satisfy the kiddies. Some products have other ingredients that may do harm, but since they have been inadequately tested, we may never know. It is best to make your own orange juice or other fruit juices. |

You've been assured for years that fruit juice is a convenient way of getting those pesky five servings of fruits and vegetables each day, but, sorry to say, you've been duped. Ask any diabetic who has to take insulin shots what she should do when she has an attack of low blood sugar. That's right, drink OJ. It, or any fruit juice for that matter, will raise your blood sugar so fast and so high that I couldn't put a tourniquet around your arm, find a vein, and inject 50 percent dextrose into you any faster. | IF MY KIDS ARE GOING TO QUIT DRINKING SOFT DRINKS, IS fruit juice A BETTER CHOICE?
Actually, a number of health experts say that whole fresh fruits, preferably those low in natural sugars such as apples, strawberries, and blueberries, are always preferable to juice, because they contain nutrients, antioxidants, and fiber, the last of which slows the rate at which your blood sugar is raised. |

Avoid or reduce fruits and avoid fruit juice altogether. Most fruits and all fruits juices are too high in sugar and fuel yeast. Drink 10 glasses of water a day to assist in flushing out yeast toxins. Drink two glasses a day of a green drink made from spirulina, wheat grass, and barley grass powder. These substances will help raise your immunity levels and feed healthy bacteria.

Continue to steer clear of all "Killer Fruits" (page 67), which tend to hail from the tropics, and fruit juice. (See Tropical Sugar Bombs on page 104.) As long as weight loss continues at a steady pound a week or you're already at your optimal weight, you can enjoy fruit in moderation. Overdo it and weight loss will halt or even reverse. If so, simply cut back on portions or wait a few more weeks before trying again.
