But there is a valid point in the libertarian argument: we are supposed to be living in a free society, and in a free society, shouldn't people be trusted to make their own decisions? It's not right, the argument goes, for the government to act like the parents of individuals and force people to avoid certain products or ingest other products according to whatever health standards the government has set up. |

Just ask yourself, "What kinds of health choices should I be able to make if I lived in a free society?"
In a free society, you would be able to do these five things:
1. Buy prescription drugs from any country you wanted, without being arrested as a criminal by the FDA
2. Visit your doctor and discuss nutrition, homeopathy and herbs without being looked at like you're some kind of idiot
3. Sell nutritional supplements and tell the truth about how they support human health without being persecuted by the FDA

| Paraphrasing Thomas Jefferson, "every good democracy must have a citizenry that is willing to stage a revolution periodically in order to rid itself of those looking to abridge the rights of a free society." Are you too sick to stand up for your rights?
Chapter 15
CURES-They ARE Preventable
We love the science, but don't think that it is a good business model. - Eli Lilly Corporation
To interpret the quote above, consider that in the case of 18 million Americans with diabetes, a cure would effectively kill a $132 billion/year industry. |

But when it comes to health, medicine, and nutritional supplements, the system under which we live today is more like the Dark Ages than a system of freedom. Want proof? Just ask yourself, "What kinds of health choices should I be able to make if I lived in a free society?"

That's not the kind of activity that should be going on in a free society. Since America is supposed to be a free society, we should have a simple, Fair Tax system that leaves it up to consumers to decide how much tax they wish to pay.
By simply adjusting their level of consumption, they can choose how much they wish to contribute to public funding. |

Satire and humor have important functions in any free society: They reveal what's wrong in a hilarious light, simultaneously entertaining us while encouraging us to challenge our own ideas and, perhaps, come up with new, better solutions for future generations. Political cartoons, stand-up comedians and satire pieces like this one all play a role in getting people to think more carefully about the issues at hand. |

Shared power is essential in any free society.
But today's U.S. federal government has long since abandoned any ideas of shared power. Today, it steamrolls over the People of this country, tapping their phone lines without warrants, searching them without probable cause, arresting and imprisoning them but not charging them with any crime, arbitrarily adding their names to "no fly" lists used by commercial airlines, and engaging in other serious transgressions. This example of the U.S. government attempting to acquire customer records from Amazon. |

That alone is a dangerous situation, since the balance of power in a free society actually depends on a government fearing the people!
When the people fear their government, that government has complete power over the people. And our government in particular has used fear as a weapon of mass terror against the American people for several decades now. The U.S. |

Today, it is very clear that we are NOT living in a free society. Freedom of speech is simply not allowed for anyone selling food, herbs or nutritional supplements of any kind. Simply stating obvious truths -- like "vitamin C cures scurvy" or "chocolate makes the brain feel happy" -- is enough to land you in federal prison courtesy of the pharmaceutical thugs running the Fraud and Drug Administration. |

| Think we live in a free society? Think again: If the FDA had its way, the information you are reading right now would be banned from publication, and this author would have long since been arrested for telling the truth about natural medicine.
Make no mistake: The FDA has declared war on the health of the American people and the health freedom movement. |

We think we live in a free society with the free flow of information and ideas. We used to laugh at the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany or Red China and how the government would lie to its people through the news media. We used to think that America was transparent in the free flow of information. This is categorically untrue. When you travel to other parts of the world people in other countries know that we Americans are in fact being lied to through the media. What you see on TV, what you hear about in the news, is not the truth. |

Because if people want to destroy their own health in their own homes, that's certainly their free choice -- we still live in a free society. But if they're going to go to a hospital or a place of public education, they should not be tempted with foods that we now know directly promote chronic disease. |

My definition of a free society is where it is safe to be unpopular. —Adlai Stevenson
If you want to lose weight, it is absolutely imperative that you eat a substantial breakfast. The facts are clear. The vast majority of people who are thin eat breakfast, the vast majority of people who are overweight eat no breakfast or a very light breakfast. People who are overweight generally have a slow metabolism. In order to get your metabolism moving, one of the most important things you can do is eat a substantial breakfast. |

In a truly free society, patients would be able to seek out alternative treatments, and naturopaths wouldn't be arrested for actually helping people heal. Check out the Burzynski story to see an example of modern-day suppression of cancer cure research.
Want to see how the cancer sham is really perpetrated in this country? Read my related article, State-sponsored medical terrorism: Texas authorities arrest parents, kidnap their teenage daughter, and force her through chemotherapy against her will. |

The FDA, as it exists today, is an organization of tyranny and injustice that simply has no place in a free society.
That’s why I believe it is time for growers of cherries, fruits, vegetables and other healing foods to take a stand against the FDA. Stand firm against oppression and censorship, and stand up for your right to tell the truth about the healing benefits of your natural products. The FDA’s reclassification of cherry growers as criminals is a violation of every system of law and ethics that we’ve known on this planet. |

Thank God we live in a (relatively) free society where the internet still operates and people have access to independent information. As people are increasingly finding out that prescription drugs actually kill you, while vitamins, nutrients, and plant-based supplements actually save your life, organized medicine had to go to Plan B. Plan B is to outlaw nutrition, which is what the European Union Food Supplements Directive is all about.
Let's take this one step further here. Let’s assume they succeed in outlawing this nutrition. |

And you thought we lived in a free society. You thought that we had equal protection under the law. You thought that the Constitution said that every citizen is entitled to the due process of law.
Well, wake up and smell the roses. I want you to know why I am as mad as hell, and not going to take it anymore. When I decided to write this book the Federal Trade Commission simply came in and ORDERED me not to put specific product information in this book! You are reading this right. The Federal Trade Commission came in and, in my opinion, stripped me of my First Amendment right. |

The US should follow these examples. In a free society such as the US, there should be inherent checks and balances in order to allow free choice to the individual in matters that concern his or her personal welfare. Nothing else works quite as well.

Unsurprisingly, the impact of this media monopolization of information on a free society continues to be ignored by the mass media itself.
In 1982, when media expert Ben Bagdikian completed research for his book, The Media Monopoly, he found that 50 corporations controlled half or more of the media business. By December 1986, when he finished a revision for a second edition, the 50 had shrunk to 29. About a half year later, when he wrote an article for EXTRA!, the number was down to 26. |
