In one experiment he compared the light emitted from free-range eggs to those produced by battery hens. The photons in the eggs produced by the free-range chickens were far more coherent than those in the battery eggs. He went on to use biophoton emissions as a tool for measuring the quality of food. The healthiest food had the lowest and most coherent intensity of light. Any disturbance in the system would increase the production of photons. Health was a state of perfect subatomic communication, and ill health was a state where communication breaks down. |

Even better is meat from free-range, grass-fed, or organically raised animals. You may have to ask your butcher whether the animals were grass-fed but "finished" with grain for the last month or two to add weight and profit. Corn and other grains alter the animals' fat composition, increasing the amount of saturated fat and decreasing heart-healthy omega-3 fats. Game meat, if you like the richer taste, is from free-ranging animals; however, buffalo are now usually fed grain.

Freshness is a legitimate concern, and, if you ask, the clerk at your fish counter will identify the freshest catch. Don't be embarrassed to ask questions. You should also ask whether the fish is wild or farmed. Wild is healthier and usually higher in omega-3 fats. If you can't afford wild varieties, farmed fish is acceptable. Be sure to rinse all fish under cold water before cooking it. |

Today's "free-range" chicken has little in common with the chickens I saw on the small sustainable farms I visited as a kid where chickens ran around pecking at stuff to their hearts' content and produced delicious eggs and meat that were relatively toxin free. According to The Washington Post Magazine, the term free range "doesn't really tell you anything about the (animal's) ... quality of life, nor does it even assure that the animal actually goes outdoors. |

The other point here is that there is such a thing as healthy, live meat from free-range animals. If you take an animal from a natural environment, fed raw plants, raw grasses, live foods, without it being subjected to antibiotics and hormones or inhumane methods of slaughter, that meat will be much healthier for you than traditionally raised beef. Still, there's no denying that this is a terrible experience for the animal. The animal is still being killed and eaten. |

TIP: GUARD AGAINST ANEMIA
Heavy, frequent periods can trigger problems with iron-deficiency anemia, and it may be helpful to have a blood test to determine whether you are at risk. free-range, organic eggs, green leafy vegetables, oatmeal, molasses, nuts, seeds, fish, and whole meal cereals are all good sources of iron. Avoid drinking tea with meals, and instead have a glass of orange juice or a portion of vitamin-C-rich fruit with a meal to help your body absorb iron. |

The kidneys, which extract waste products from the blood, also suffer from the overload of meat poisons, consisting mostly of nitrogenous wastes. Even moderate meat-eaters demand three times more work from their kidneys than vegetarians do. Young people generally may still be able to cope with this form of stress, but as they grow older, the risk of kidney damage increases greatly. |

No Guarantees with Organic, Just the Possibility of Something Better
So why do I continue to buy and recommend organic meats (hopefully grass fed) and free-range organic chickens? One word: hope. I continue to hope against mounting evidence that companies held to a standard of "organic" will produce chickens, meats, and eggs that are at least marginally better than the chickens, meats, and eggs that come from companies that maintain unspeakably horrible factory-farm conditions. I realize this may not be true. |

For millions of years, humans evolved on a diet rich in natural omega-3 food sources, including free-range game, fish, marine mammals, nuts, and fresh seaweed. In the early twentieth century, however, food manufacturers in the industrialized nations began literally pouring corn oil—a source of omega-6 fatty acids—into the food chain. This was accompanied by a decline in consumption of fish and wild game and a dramatic increase in the use of grains (another source of omega-6) to feed livestock. |

Whether you approach this from a nutritional point of view, a product safety point of view, or a system that supports the ethical treatment of animals, the choice is clear: choose eggs from free-range chickens grown without the use of antibiotics or hormones. And that doesn't mean just choosing brown eggs, by the way: you have to read the egg cartons carefully and make sure you're getting organic or free-range eggs. Brown eggs are not automatically healthier than white eggs. |

Think about it: When you purchase a piece of meat and you choose the organic, free-range cow over the conventionally raised cow, you actually create demand for organic free-range beef and reduce demand for pesticide-laden, conventionally raised, abused red meat. You see, every time you purchase a hamburger that has not been raised organically and ethically, you are in effect partly responsible for the raising, slaughtering and abuse of a living, breathing mammal -- a cow.

Non-processed meat is healthier than processed meats due to the absence of preservative chemicals such as sodium nitrite. free-range, organic meats are even better, and eliminating meats from the diet is an ideal choice for many people who are wishing to maximize personal health while greatly reducing the environmental impact of the foods they consume. Virtually all popular shampoo and bath products sold on the market contain cancer-causing chemicals. The ingredients read like a top-40 list of toxic chemicals. Meat consumption harms the planet
There are tremendous implications resulting from the mass consumption of meat products by the American population, such as the fact that it takes 10 times as much land to create meat protein as it does similar quantities of protein from vegetables. We're also seeing the clear-cutting of rain forests, in the Amazon especially, in order to create grazing land for cattle. |
| Healthier than that would be of course free-range meat, kosher-certified meat, and along the lines of similar health would be artificial meat. None of these meats, as I have stated, are in fact good for you if consumed in large quantities. I believe that meat is not necessary for the human diet, except perhaps in the case of pregnant women who need extra iron and protein. In that case, the meat serves as a very high density protein and iron source that cannot be replicated from the plant world (iron from plants is molecularly different than iron from meats). |
